Juanmi Wants To Stay And Fight For A Place
Saturday, 19th Dec 2015 08:54

Spanish striker Juanmi has revealed that his former club Malaga are trying to tempt him back, but he wants to stay at St Mary's and prove that he is up to the job in the Premier League.

Juanmi was interviewed by Spanish Radio Station Cadena Ser about whether he would consider a return to Malaga who are being touted in Spain as chasing him in an effort to lure him back.

"No, no. I'm focused on my club, trying to adapt as quickly as possible to get more minutes and play games. Right now I don't think that. I have been here just five months and I am happy. I am sure that the minutes will arrive with the hard work."

But Juanmi also admitted that there had been contact from Malaga,

"Yes, there have been contacts but I think now is time to complete my adaptation to Southampton and make my name in this league. Today I don't consider anything else."

"Little by little I'm better here, with the language, the style of playing... I'm happy with my adaptation and soon I hope that in the second part of the season the minutes arrived,"

"When you come to a country with a different culture and a new language the adaptation is complicated. The coach is the first to understand that because he played in Spain. But I'm happy. I would like to have more minutes but I am sure that they will come with the time. I am calm. "

Juanmi has not yet had a lot of time in the Premier League, but when he has played he has showed flashes of why Saints signed him, in his first game against Vitesse he put across as sublime chip for Shane Long to head home from close range, sadly with Saints squad top heavy with strikers he has not had a lot of chances to repeat that.

However he undoubtedly has talent an like most strikers, a goal could change everything for him.

No better than Eli. A big maybe whether he can make it. Keep the escape route clear.

As we have seen little of him so far, its hard to give an opinion either way, his problem is that he is not really a winger, he is a forward, the type we used to call inside forwards, in a 4-4-2 he would be ideal playing off Pelle, but we dont play that way

"Top heavy with strikers" you wouldn't have thought so considering the lack of goals!
