It's pretty unusual that a Derby born lad comes to play for the club without ever having come through the ranks but Andy Todd is one of those rare exceptions.

Born in Derby while dad Colin was turning in star performances for the Championship winning Rams teams of the 70s, Andy actually started his football career as a trainee at Middlesbrough whilst Todd Snr was manager there. In total, he spent 2½ years with the Ayresome Park club, the last few months being loaned out to Swindon Town before following dad who was now Bruce Rioch's assistant manager at Bolton Wanderers, moving for a fee of £250,000 in the summer of 1995.

He left Bolton in controversial circumstances after allegedly breaking assistant manager (and erstwhile Rams manager) Phil Brown's jaw at a team bonding session(!!) moving on to Charlton Athletic, winning the Division One title with them before another training ground bust up, this time with Dean Kiely left him under a cloud again.

He was loaned out to Grimsby Town and helped them stave off relegation before moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2002. After initially struggling to cement a regular place in the first team, he was loaned out to Burnley, where good performances brought about his recall to Blackburn, where Mark Hughes eventually handed him the captain's armband. He won Player of the Year at Ewood Park but then found it difficult hold down a regular place again.

He joined the Rams in July 2007 and brings much needed Premiership experience into the Rams' squad.
