If there was a minutes silence at the 2022 Qatar World Cup to remember every person that has died during the construction of the stadiums, there would be no noise for 44 matches.
Nearly 4,000 deaths that equates to.
There’s still over 3 years of construction to go.#FIFAshame
Wonder how many of the workers are immigration workers brought over from places like Africa and India ?
They do the same thing in Dubai building all the skyscrapers and get paid peanuts for working all the hours and risking their lives with no workers rights and have their passports taken away so that they can't leave and go home.
Similar could happen here after Brexit

The World Cup being held in Quatar is a complete joke. The decision needs to be overturned and the Swiss Govt needs to get it’s act together and sort out FIFA. If not UEFA needs to get together with the South Americans and set up an alternative World Cup.

Just going back now and reading the comments, I think the original tweet is slightly misleading, he is talking about the estimated deaths by the time the world cup starts, I think the figure for deaths from the start till present day is about 1.2k, still shocking.
"Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.'
Bill Shankley.
(Agree entirely - itinerant labour in the Middle East, mostly from poor Asian countries like Nepal, Thailand, etc., is treated like sh*t. As most labou' is when there's lots of money to be made.)
