Corona Virus on 22:50 - Apr 3 by Thebus | How do you know it was only one or two and they didn’t manage to spread it. That is absolutely nonsense. No doubt the Coronavirus left China before the Chinese even reported their first case. The city in China where the outbreak started has a population of over 11 million and common sense states people with the virus ( could be asymptomatic) were traveling all over the globe and passing on the virus. |
I don't know it was only one or two, it is far more likely that it was zero. It is obvious because about 20% of confirmed cases need hospitalisation. This is only now happening here. To the point we've had to build field hospitals. As soon as it was clearly spreading ini Wuhan they shut the place down. They didn't get that opportunity in Italy, and the state they are in is what happens when it is spreading in the community for even a short time. People may have had a different virus but it absolutely wasn't covid 19. Wuhan has a population of 11 million, but less than a 100000 confirmed cases. Chances are anyone leaving Wuhan were in the 99% of the population that didn't have the virus.

4 out of 5 have a mild or moderate illness. That is the mantra that Prof Witty and others keeps repeating. 1 out of 5 is 20%. I hope you are right and I'm wrong I really do. But just repeating your argument doesn't make it correct, the situation speaks for itself.

Epaul, your industry will be massive in the long-term. NHS staff I know have been lamenting for years the "quick squirt of spray" that they more often than cleaners have to apply to workplaces. It needs to be a full time, timetabled job. Not just a 2 hour stint before opening and then that's that for 24 hours. Cleaning needs to be around the clock in operating hours. With so many places open nearly 24 hours a day it is almost scandalous that around the clock, full time cleaning isn't the case. There's filthy people about with no clue of personal hygiene. Plus our British culture of not showing weakness I think is born out of not wanting to be off sick even if we know we are ill. We are not wanting to lose money. "Wealth before health - can't lose out on a days pay" Our SSP needs to be higher then maybe people won't risk their health and of course that of others. A massive shout out as well to all the shop workers and supermarket workers. A massive shout out to ALL [Post edited 4 Apr 2020 10:03]

This was covered and acknowledged in one of the daily briefings by Sir Patrick Vallance the numbers will be reconciled and published over time by the ONS. He said it is important to have a consistent way of collecting data. One of the challenges is timing of the official notification by doctors, at present the number of deaths with/from the virus in hospitals is published.

Yes and very much let down by their management over PPE, the time it is taking to supply the supposedly available PPE is a national disgrace. There is nowhere in the UK more than 1 days travel by lorry or hours by plane. A Hercules transport can carry 20 tons of cargo and land in most airports with it's short take off & landing ability.

But given the experts disagree which ones are you going to leave it to? The ones with the best connections and most political muscle, but possibly anchored to their own, out of date, tunnel vision, or the ones with the best research and comparative logic. Of course many combinations in between. Here’s an expert on expertise :) https://www.psychologytoday.com/gb/blog/tracking-wonder/201906/the-paradox-exper Akin to recently discussed issue of SOME of the brightest having little common sense, and of course the human condition of pinpoint focusing on what you believe to be correct. That focus is vital to develop but so is a wide angle lens. Who should be more expert on health matters than, well, WHO..... On January 10, the official Twitter account of the World Health Organization declared that ‘WHO does not recommend any specific health measures for travelers to and from Wuhan, #China.’ The tweet went on to say that ‘It is generally considered that entry screening offers little benefit, while requiring considerable resources.’ A follow-up tweet described how ‘WHO advises against the application of any travel or trade restrictions on #China based on the information currently available.’ What we’ve learned since is that China was by then already engaged in a massive cover-up of the release and spread of the virus. It imprisoned doctors (one of whom would later die from contracting COVID-19) who attempted to warn the World Health Organization and the world. On January 14, the same Twitter account blasted out that ‘Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China.’ Thus adding legitimacy to this comment and its implications. WHO still only recommends a social distance of 1 metre whilst accepting this is primarily a droplet spread infection and it being common proven knowledge that a cough can spread 6 metres and a sneeze 8 metres. WHO on 28th March tweeted ....FACT: ‪#COVID19‬ is NOT airborne This despite its own clear direction on protection against aerosols to be taken for medical procedures that create aerosols for e.g. coughing, and evidence that aerosolised virus remained viable throughout the entirety of a 3 hour experiment.

Surreal, talk of giving a wristband or passport to those who have antibodies, I can see the argument but my initial reaction is that is a step way too far. Reports of police in Russia using facial recognition to round up people breaking the curfew, reports of Google using data to track the movement of the population, I would love to hear what George Orwell would make of all this. I saw a good article about life in the USA in the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak, very different times with business as usual and rules about keeping your distance, no spitting and keeping windows open. It does make you think about how we get to where we are. [Post edited 4 Apr 2020 14:58]

Sadly in far too many countries wealth and health are inextricably linked. The USA to start with. The people I saw who had genuine health problems but were forced back into work by threats from management and one who was told he needed heart surgery who they tried to make medically redundant before he had surgery ro save them some money. There are changes that need to happen and most of them are linked to money and greed. Senior management say the right things but usually put money before people.

I suggest that you look at the statics for COVID19 deaths up to the 20th of March and then look at how far behind the curve the ONI are. ie 177 by March 20 and 3735 now.
