England tonight on 21:49 - Nov 18 by traininvain | Decent performance tonight, albeit not the toughest opposition. Can’t help but think that the likes of Foden, Grealish and Saka will be pushing to start in the euros. Strong squad but still not convinced by the defence. Not sure what Southgate’s learning by continuing to start Dier and Walker every game. Surely time to give others a chance. |
Agree with this other than Walker. He offers something different in this squad - for one, absurdly, he may even be the oldest in the squad at 30 so has lots of experience and more importantly experience of winning things. Secondly despite his age he's still rapid, something none of our other CBs can hold a candle to in that regard. Guardiola isn't infallible but he's replaced many other players at City and kept Walker because immense pace will always be a terrifying skillset at all levels of football. Dier on the other hand is just an absolute liability. I don't love Tyrone Mings either but he's a much better option than Dier

I don’t mind Walker and expect he’ll start in big games despite being more than capable of making mistakes. But I don’t understand why Southgate continues to start Walker and Dier every game. I’d like to have seen a bit more of Mings and Cody over the last three games. What exactly are we learning by starting Walker and Dier every game?
