Absolutely, as you say if that tournament had been in Cardiff there is a 9% non white population and you would see far more at these types of things.
It’s exactly the same argument as the black football managers discussion. Once you look at the qualified pool of realistic managers, they are represented to the same % in employment.
People create racial problems in their heads when what they are seeing is easily explainable. All it takes is a Lenny Henry or a Sol Campbell to spout some uneducated and non-researched nonsense about race being the cause and people just nod and agree.

Because there could be an imbalance when it comes to age and gender which are key areas of whether these were suitable for the tournament being discussed.
With the black population being easily countable (25) it’s important to show also how many of these 25 wouldn’t even come into the equation through various reasons, such as age etc.
When it came down to it, while the ratio was the same you can see quite clearly why there probably wasn’t a black player there. There were only 7 that fit the likely criteria of entry out of thousands, and when it’s down to those figures - variance suggests that it’s also fairly likely that none of them would have any interest in the sport.
You would have to do a separate analysis to go over the top of that and adjust for pastimes and interests, that would probably whittle that 7 down to less than 1.
7 in 7000 and 7000 in 7,000,000 is the same ratio - but in the first one you would very likely not have a volunteer player - in the second you definitely would.

A lot of woke nonsense is born out of a lie, or a complete misunderstanding of social dynamics or demographics.
It means when you drill past the emotion and bluster, the woke don’t really have a lot to go on. Which is why you often see them name calling and retreating. They won’t enter a civil debate because they know that fundamentally what they are saying is nonsense.
The whole BLM movement in the States was founded on a lie. They compared the racial demographics of those killed by police and compared it to the population split, a ludicrously flawed methodology which makes no logical sense whatsoever.
Police don’t kill the public at random (if they did then that methodology would be fine), they (sometimes) kill those they come into criminal contact with. So you compare it to the racial demographics of the crime rate.
Once you do that there is no difference, if anything you are less likely to be killed if black - and the reasons for that are obvious. How many white people do you know by name killed by police? Most wouldn’t be able to name a single one despite there being double and even triple the amount.
That’s because people don’t care if you are killed and are white, it can’t be used to further a narrative. So police would naturally be more hesitant when faced with an African American man for example.
All of the current pandering, government lobbying and societal changes have happened because of that lie that spread like wildfire. We are still seeing the effects of that lie today, and is probably the reason Lenny feels happy enough to spread this kind of nonsense knowing people will just nod and play into the race game that has been created.
Racism exists, but it’s rare.
I see more racism directed at white people than any other race these days. Type in “white male” to Twitter (or even better straight, white male) and see how many derogatory things come up directed at white males, do the same with “black male” and you wouldn’t find very many at all.
I see more sexism directed at men these days than women, do the same online with regards to comments on men and comments on women. Misandry is rife in media and it’s almost become fashionable to slate men openly.
The desire for equality has long gone. People want power and they also want the gravitas of appearing oppressed, that’s exactly what is happening at the moment. There is no logic behind any of it, it’s posturing and emotion.

Yep It would, exactly the same for your example.
There is no gender pay gap, there is a choice pay gap, but they will pretend it's due to their gender in order to push a narrative.
There are far more issues with men at the moment than women. Most homeless people are male, most suicides are male, most prison inmates are male, most mental health issues are male, males get sentences longer for the same crimes, men get less rights over their children, men are more likely to be victims of unprovoked violence - the list is endless. | |
