I now own a green Harris Tweed suit. I look like a cross between Margaret Rutherford and Mr Toad in it and I’m delighted. What’s yours?

I must admit in the last couple of weeks when the Mrs has watching some old George Gently episodes I have been sat there looking at some of his suits and overcoats and thinking, hmmm, loving that herringbone blue tweed overcoat.

Is it an age thing?

A few years ago I played golf in a pair of Plus 4’s (May have been Plus 2’s not sure of the difference!), all I needed was one of those tweed cow pat style hats to make me look like Captain Hastings out of Poirot!

Yep, it'll need to be John Lobb, Church's, Loake, Trickers, Crockett & Jones etc

Nothing suitable yet, I need walking boots/shoes. What would you recommend?

Bought a 3/4 length green Harris tweed overcoat with a velvet collar a few years back from a shop in Marylebone. Never worn it though.

You need to go to Walker Slater in Great Queen Street in Covent Garden. The range is very good and while it’s not cheap, it’s reasonable for the look and feel. I got a fantastic overcoat from there as well last year. The staff are first class, very friendly and knowledgeable and not at all pushy.

Superb taste, sir, but John Lobb are now in the 4-figure bracket, and even a pair of Tricker's country brogues will set you back 550 notes these days.

Cheaney and Grenson triple welt are still UK made and slightly more affordable though. Slightly.
