Are Wrexham Spending For Promotion 12:31 - Aug 4 with 372 viewsSaintNick

We all expected Wrexham to be spending big, but so far they have bought a lot of players but not for a lot of money

1. Ryan Hardie, £700 k from Plymouth, 28 year old journeyman 53 League goals in 179 league games over 4 seasons, not exactly setting the world alight.

2. Danny Ward, goalkeeper on a free from Leicester, 32 year old keeper signed by Leicester for £12.5 million from Liverpool, played 28 games for Leicester in that time, plus another 71 out on loan not a great career CV.

3. Liberato Cacace- 25 year old from Empoli, again not a great CV but only £2.17 million and with Serie A experience

4. George Thomason £1.22 million from Bolton, 24 years old with about 130 League 1
games to his credit, again nothing exciting on his cv

5. Josh Windass, Free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday , 31 years old now , 5 years at Wednesday yielded 43 League goals a fair chunk of those in league 1, got 13 last term though

6. Lewis O'Brien 26 years old £3 million from Nottingham Forest where he played just 13 games, spent the last two seasons on a series of loans

7.Conor Coady, £2 million from Leicester, I have said we could do with him, but his career seems to have dropped fast since he got his England cap

8. A likely signing is Keifer Moore for £2.1 million, turns 33 this Friday more clubs than Jack Nicklaus/Tiger Woods, not many goals in the last few years.

So Wrexham seem to be doing their usual dump last seasons squad and upgrade, but have they really upgraded a lot of old heads is good but they need more than that, most if they have Championship experience are past their best and too many have not really had great careers if they have played in the Championship.

I expected Wrexham to go for it with transfers, a few decent players go there for the money, but it isn't happening it seems.

Have they reached the top of their abilities to climb the leagues, can they not attract players of the calibre needed to get promotion.

Interesting season for them, the TV money is there as long as its still a fairytale, but Josh Windass isnt going to get the kids of america buying his shirts or putting his picture on the wall
