Not sure the demise of Blockbusters is all down to the growth of online products. It might also be something to do with the squeezing in disposable income of the demography that purchases take away DVDs...which, arguably, does have something to do with the coalition. |

No - it really is due to online products. You can sign up to Netflix for 6 quid a month and watch as many movies a month as you like or pay £3.50 to rent one at Blockbuster. You can stream movies and download via Sky Go, Sky also have a pay on demand service as do Tesco.
You can buy movies and TV series off itunes. Why would anyone what the hassle of going to a store and picking the film up, take it home, watch it, and then take it back within 2 days? Completely outdated business model. People want films downloaded so they can watch them on their various devices without ever having to leave the house. You can download a film in minutes now. Much quicker than going to the shop and cheaper too. |  | | |

agree about the outdated business model and their board needs to take a large slice of blame here too as they were in the perfect position to be pioneers in online downloads and purchases. But there is also the fact that running shops in a high street is now too expensive to allow these businesses to compete. |  | | |

I think that's a good point. Local rates for shops and small businesses are massive and rental rates are ridiculous too. There are going to be a lot of property companies out there with empty units they are never going to fill because independent owners won't be able to compete. | | | |
