The Kone Kon-undrum
at 20:31 27 Oct 2025

Confidence and fitness. Plus he is getting maybe one chance a game. It's been a meteoric rise, opposition will now have videos and plans to deal with him, puts that header away last night and we are talking how amazing he manages to pop up and save the game. But we have to be careful about overplaying and I dont think he's got another 3 game week in him

Field at left back
at 19:48 25 Oct 2025

I'd rather see Field at LCB and Mbengue at Right Back tbh Esquedinha is an attacking full back who can cross and could have done with him today. Mbengue was a total liability at CB today his pace gets him out of trouble like the personality and impact but I think Field is actually a better centre back and its not even his main position

Against Millwall we stuck in cross after cross to no avail, the problem is getting the balance right

It is what it is, we looked knackered from the off. Derby's 3-4-3 had us outnumbered all over the pitch and that's before the recovery time we've not had which I do think is a legitimate excuse. So Nardi gifting them a goal is criminal.

Stephan really needs to work on what plan B is. In Frey, Varane and Dembele we have three players who are woefully out of form, and Kone looks jaded. The squad is deep. I dont get playing Field at LB ahead of Esquadhino who can at least attack unless he is injured, I dont get why Morgan is on the bench but Chair went 8 which totally nullified him when we needed him to float. We dont need Field, Morgan and Hayden on the bench and therefore leaving Kolli in the dev team who is going to be more effective against low block

4-4-2 just does not work against low block so we need plan B and if that means leaving out of form players or senior players out of the match day squad then that's what needs to happen.

I'm also concerned and this has been the same regardless of formation about a) How susceptible we are to a straight long ball and b) How far backward we have gone on set pieces this season in comparison to last

Well we've been well and truly done tactically, glad it's only one and gives us a chance to change things up. Nardi has to be coming for that ball for the goal its in his bloody 6 yard box.

We look very very leggy. Both wide players have been poor. Full backs have been exposed, Varane started terribly and has gotten better. Kone looks shot.

Would expect 2nd half changes perhaps a change in formation Chair for Saito would be my immediate change and would be tempted to swap Kone for Frey and maybe Smyth for Vale

Agree, sometimes we just have to be a bit more patient, if you were around for the Furlong redemption arc or the Zamora one when you know there is quality there but for whatever reason they struggle when they join, then you know to give it a bit more than half a season. Confidence is such a factor in sport, he needed longer to adapt and the patience and belief shown by the club is paying off.

If he maintains this and improves further you can seeing moving into one of the top flight leagues.

Kolli has a problem, if Chair is fit its now Burrell or Chair after that. He's going to have to be patient and take his chance when it comes through injuries, but its another Armstrong situation, the kid needs game time and needs a loan, but he has the wrong voices around him so he will move to a bigger or similar sized club where he will be stuck on the bench again. He needs a half season starting every game for Wycombe or Orient for his development

I think in his whole career he has been 1 in 10 from one on ones if there is one thing our performance coaches should be working on its that

We won but I think there will be a number of things Stephan will not be happy with Hayden was excellent first half and faded badly 2nd half. Mbengue had a really poor game and against a better side would have been punished. Varane looks woefully out of form, as good as Paul Smyth was on Saturday he was as poor on the right. Kone struggled to make an impact, and should have been hooked earlier. And we've missed some absolute sitters there to put it to bed.

Great to see Chair come on and do well, but an absolutely classic Chair moment when he selfishly went for the shot when a side pass to Kone was shoe in for 2nd goal. Burrell and Saito excellent and it was a lovely goal. Weather may be an excuse for some of the bad. Madsen MOTM for me again though really great on and off the ball

Like him as a player, battles, can. play multiple positions. Plays wide right in a similar way to when Rowlands played there not as a winger but more of a wide midfielder. benefits from having Burrell who will move out to the right and they create an overload. Can really whip a ball, crossing and dead balls were poor yesterday

Chair Poku JCS were all available for selection today said the Club !!

Dave Mc said Chair had Hamstring same as Poku. Guess the club kept it quiet given Coventry and fan outcry at the time about fitness and the number of Hamstring / muscle injuries

Did Frey get two contract extensions?
at 14:00 19 Oct 2025

When I saw the selection I was really disappointed because I dont see how Kone and Frey together works but where I depart from other opinions in this thread is that for the 30-35 minutes, it did work, lovely touch to set up Smyth in the first minute , some actual link up and interplay between him and Kone the problem was not the front two IMHO it was the poor final ball and decision making and Varane having an absolute stinker.

Having said that 40 minutes onwards it was no longer working and was crying out either for Burrel and Kone for pace and aggression or Kolli and Kone for guile. I said at half time would be amazed if we scored a goal with our head against this lot so dominant were their centre backs in the air

I didn't think Frey was too bad to be honest it worked 1000% better than at Oxford game personally would prefer Kolli if Burrell can't start but they both had long trips. Problem was the final ball not necessarily the finishing or the strikers and their link up too often the ball was played just behind or not crossed with enough pace

World save today no doubt not seen it back the first goal, thought at the time a different keeper is coming punching and clattering their striker and the problem goes away but need to watch it back

Just back first 45 probably the best of the season and end up two down . Ridiculous!. I thought Frey was the wrong one to start pre game would have preferred Kolli if not Burrell but he was away too I guess but I thought Frey had a decent 40 minutes and linked well with Kone. Smyth was excellent for the first 40-45 as well. Final ball throughout the team was the problem. Really only Varane had poor game IMHO and been quite shocked by some of the reaction on shitter as they seem to have been. watching a different game to me.

Second half first 15 not great until Burrell and Saito came on and we were unfortunate not to get the 2nd.

Hate to lose and hate to lose in a Derby but was a genuinely entertained and you have to give credit to Millwall and their Basketball sized defence.

If anything this type of game was crying out for a Chair type of player with a bit of nouse and individual skill to break them down.

Norrington-Davies continues to impress and is a significant upgrade on Paal.

I think it was mentioned on the QPR podcast that VAR is coming in next year. Probably would have had 3 penalties or more with that at least 2 on Frey first half, I've not seen it yet but suspect Burrell's goal was offside. Ref overall was very very lenient
