A truly uninspiring performance from a group of players who will mainly be on the fringe of the squad, once we are back to full quota. Nobody seemed interested or bothered, despite this being the perfect opportunity to impress the new manager.
Instead, we were treated to a lackluster display of mostly sideways and backward passing that then resulted in a hoof forward once we ran out of options. Slack marking and running for the Wednesday goal and AMcC got beaten at his near post - AGAIN !!
We were playing a L1 team, but still let them take control and run the game through Bannan - often gifting him the ball with lapse passes (mainly Diallo, who was particularly poor) and no pressure / challenges on their back 4 (static Mara, apart from his pathetic dive !!).
Our only glimpse of hope seemed to be Edozie, but he was either lacking the final ball or taken out by burly defenders - no protection from the ref.
We came back into the game for the last 30 mins, with our subs making a difference, but we still played to the same tactics. Theo should have scored, others could have scored and S Armstrong unluckily hit the bar at the death.
On to pens and we were trying to remember if McCarthy had ever saved a penalty for us - probably not. He should have save the first one after getting a good hand to it, but eventually made amends with the 6th, saving with his feet.
We are through and that is about the only positive. Hoping for a nice easy home draw (Lincoln, MKD, Charlton, Gillingham) and another game at St Marys before Christmas.

Dreadful first half. Completely clueless (Edozie apart). Outplayed at times by Wednesday. Second half better and should have won in normal time. Substitutes and quality of the bench made the difference along with a tactical switch at the back. Perraud made a good impact. Very disappointed with Mara again and Adam Armstrong had his worst game for us. Penalties were fun and I guess with 8 changes the main thing was to somehow get though. Wasn't very inspiring though
