I'm tempted to go to the Las Palmas game tomorrow - its an 8.00pm kick off. I've been a couple of times before - both times have been a bit turgid, but its live football after all. We fly back to Luton on Monday....
Agree that Nardi still seems a bit nervy at present. Said to my son as we were leaving - imagine having their keeper behind this team - I thought he was their best player.
Agreed, IMO the game was definitely won in the midfield, Boro look pretty strong without breaking too much of a sweat. Interesting to see how far forward their back four play - joining the midfield, picking up the scraps at every opportunity and feeding the playmakers. I felt that both sides lacked out and out goalscorers, which makes our front two look even more amazing acquisitions.
Manuel Gottsching's soundtrack E2-E4 also provided the backing track for the classic house/electro track 'Sueno Latino' that was stolen and replicated by Detroit legend Derek May. Original -
Agreed - it was even demonstrated on his post wrexham interview when he spoke about the stoke line up, which demonstrates he was already forward thinking to the next opposition. I'm definitely beginning to warm to him, amazing what a couple of wins do. Stoke will be a firmer test though, it will be the first time we come across a form side this season...
I thought Anderson was the stand out player for me. He's made the step up from the Under 21's side seamlessly - and isn't that the way it should be? Picks up all the scraps and recycled the ball every time. Really impressive.
Southampton have just signed another defender called Jelert from Copenhagen, so maybe that puts Handsome Ronnie further down the pecking order at the saints... Fingers crossed....
I thought he looked a bit rusty and rigid... He allowed their right winger to get 4/5 crosses in first half that he should be blocking - which was putting pressure on both Morrison and Mbengue - in fact it also caused Morrison and Varane to have words at one point. Hoping that he gets more up to match fitness with game time. Definitely think the left back position is somewhere we need to focus on resolving - we haven't really addressed that situation and ND as our only loan demonstrates that.
good - I'm glad someone has asked the question. Still not totally convinced by his answer, but at the very least it's good to see him feeling uncomfortable about our direct questions regarding our predicament. The pressure is now on him to deliver the game plan and get a song out of this squad. If he was under any misconceptions about what's expected - and how long it will take people to question his methodology, he can be in little doubt now. He needs to prove the doubters wrong starting tomorrow...
Saw 'Caught Stealing' tonight.. purposely never read the reviews or watched the trailer Really enjoyable romp = very much in the vein of an early Guy Richie type crime comedy/drama. Lots of cameo characters - with Zoe Kravitz as the female lead. Strong 8/10 from me...
This is such a great thread. I'm much more in the non-fiction category, so my recent discoveries are the following: 1) Velvet Mafia - Tells the story of the LGBT music industry moguls who were front and centre of the business in the 60's and 70's - Epstein, Parnell, Parnes (Parnes shillings and pence) managers of the biggest acts in the world - how they survived in a world where homosexuality was illegal and could end your career. 2) The Other side of Notting Hill - Roger Rogowski - memories of the people that lived in Notting Hill and the surrounding areas before and after the substantial changes - told by the working class people affected massively by the developments and construction of the Westway. 3) No Lawyers in Heaven - Henry Milner. Henry was a criminal defence lawyer that represented some of the most notorious career villains in the country - compelling insight into the extreme cases of money heist, drug trafficking and A league individuals.
All three of the above come highly recommended - all fantastic reads.
That's an interesting watch. I think a lot of people forget that lager was originally considered a weaker alternative for session drinking and the occasional half for the ladies. Like most of us at a certain age, I grew up drinking light and bitter - or light and Ben - which was one of the beers missed out in the video - Ben Truman's. Also remember when Holsten Pils came to the marker - who's tag line was turning the sugar into alcohol. Back then it was the strongest tasting lager with the green foil paper around the neck....
With which I agree with you on Brian, The big question is though, how exactly does he hope to achieve that? It's a big statement to make - especially as like many other people of this parish, i don't think he is actually picking the team. So to follow through with his statement of intent - playing completely differently, ensuring this won't happen again etc- it's a bold assertion. Maybe he's decided he will play the team that he wants, in a manner in which he's confident with..... but will be allowed to, without challenging the project master? Hopefully he's felt enough shame to insist he would rather fall on his own sword rather than someone else's... but that would surely compromise his status within the project collective, and we've seen where that got Cifuentes...
Similar story to yours - pre-covid I popped into a coffee shop on Westbourne Grove and almost literally bumped into him .... I'm not one to get starstruck, but his steely blue eyes and striking cheek bones stopped me dead in my tracks. Completely dumbfounded, I could hardly order my cappuccino.. He smiled at me before walking out. He had this amazing aura about him - incredible actor with unmatched presence. A very sad loss to this world....
It definitely feels to me that Stephan wasn't really involved in choosing the side tonight. The half time score completely flattered us - Burrell was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch. Understand taking him off to save for Saturday... But the same as Saturday, we were completely bullied in the 2nd half and it could have been more than 3-2. I'm all for playing the youngsters, but they have to be able to compete - I don't think tonight will have done any good for any of their personal esteem. Playing the kids just to make a point is poor IMO, we deserve better than throwing the kids to the wolves.
