Agreed. Both Brentford and Brighton seem to have a solid system that each manager just fits into. Thomas Frank to spurs is a disaster waiting to happen IMO. Apparently Brentford looking at McKenna as a replacement? I thought Brentford would look further afield personally....
Terrible barnet, terrific track. another great live band. Saw them when they first came over in 1983/4 at the Half Moon Putney, before they went on to play the Palais...
Obviously no longer a championship side and also bereft of a manager since Muslic abdicated behind the berlin wall to Schalke, but Plymouth seem to be getting all their signings in pretty damn quick. They've also brought in a couple of additions behind the scenes after Muslic was very vocal about the set up. Have to say that I don't remember their latest acquisition from Hertha being at QPR .....
I suppose it depends on how you are defining achievement. On that basis, glancing down at the Championship table you could easily describe 80/90% of the coaches having achieved nothing. There are some good coaches in the division though - and as mentioned above, 46% win rate is pretty impressive. Can't say that Carrick would be my choice of coach, but he seems to have been a good coach all the same - all be it with a very reasonable budget to play with at Boro.
I watched 'Touch' at the weekend. Agree it was quite a beautiful film, captured a lot of emotional longing and lost love. Very much in the vein of the 'Past Lives' the korean film - which I thought was absolutely amazing. Also watched 'Boys Cry' the italian film about two young delinquents, growing up on the council estates of Roma/Lazio. Well worth a watch - slightly depressing, but tough and gritty all the same.
Probably this. They've looked at it and thought that they might as well throw marketing money at making the tournament more sellable for the media. Expect a few more nuggets of bringing in 'harlem globetrotter' type cameos. Rollerball for the ages.....
Interesting piece. I think it demonstrates the priority of club owners to shift from relying on the core working class fans that attend matches in England, to the global appeal of monetising the international fans that spend money on merchandise, buy Channel subscriptions and effectively spend large amounts supporting clubs from the other side of the world. Clubs like Spurs are no longer subsidising OAPs tickets, preferring to replace them with visiting 'football tourists' that are willing to pay fees way beyond the standard ticket price for games. If they can get three times the face value of a ticket by using dynamic pricing, they will shift further and further away from the loyal, local fan that has supported the club through family commitment and historical alignment with the area.
My concern with the Thorup appointment would not necessarily be his ability or performance at Norwich - my problem would be that we are supposedly now working to a football system, which would suggest that in the event of a manager moving on - whether that be from being head hunted or sacked - shouldn't the hierarchy have already identified the successors months ago? If we are to believe that Marti 's appointment was part of this plan, then surely his successor has been on a shortlist that we would now pursue, rather than us scurrying around which ever manager has recently lost his job? The situation at present is wrong on so many levels...
also really encouraging to see so many young people in the stands tonight - groups of kids watching and enjoying the game. My pal said to me it reminded him of when we used to go to games and pay 30/50p at the turnstile. Terrific performance from the team tonight - really played for each other and covered each others backs. Fantastic night...
I'm no expert on this, and quite clearly I'm not CharlieB because I've been on thsi board since its inception, but maybe they have invoked the gardening leave as a holding pattern. With no real rush to get the next coach/manager over the line, maybe they are hedging their bets until a) someone head hunts Marti b) a new person has been identified. Either one of these two options will provoke a definitive decision. If, as the nourry strategy if to be believed, the role is a palcemaking position to coach the club method going forward, then they will not be in a rush...
The OP would actually be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that it's so poorly executed and delivered. No one in their right mind is going to believe the authenticity of this nonsense. What is really disrespectful is the contempt that you have shown for Marti. Look, we get it - Nourry has manipulated his position and managed to push Marti out at our expense - very few people of this board are in support of the decision, but on the whole we are intelligent enough to understand there is very little we can do about it. But don't patronise us with your spin and try and disrespect a manager that has shown guile and professionalism beyond the realms of patience to keep us in this division. None of us are falling for this complete, patronising nonsense. As one of the longest existing supporters of Clive's excellent board, it's going to be interesting to see where you go from here...
Agree with this - and we need to complete more of the Morgan type recruitment. There are a whole raft of young players that are being released each season by the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, West ham, Brentford etc - all within the London catchment area. With some decent training and closer attention they could work out to be valuable assets in the future, These don't necessarily need to be generational talent such as Eze, but he is a good example of a player that was released by Arsenal and then Millwall, before succeeding with us. The Freeman's, Armstrong's and Dieng's type of transfers can generate good revenue if we keep them constant ......
