The only new fresh water reservoir currently being constructed in the whole of England is just down the road from me in Havant. It's due to be completed in 2029 - but as with all-things Portsmouth Water related, don't hold your breath.
Ironically, Southern Water have just this morning issued a hosepipe ban for the whole of Hampshire & the IoW starting Monday. You couldn't make it up.
The rest is as you say - decades of underfunding, profits creamed off, dreadful mismanagement, etc.
I drive twice-a-week to Arundel in West Sussex on business. Hand on heart, I cannot believe the amount of new houses that have been built along the 30-mile journey from home. There are literally thousands of new homes in Chichester, Fontwell, Barnham, Yapton and thousands more being built right now next to Ford Airfield/Prison. No new reservoirs of course with which to supply all these new homes - let alone sewerage plants to handle all the waste water. And we all know where raw sewerage is ending up nowadays!
Like just about everything else in the UK these days, it's all about profits for the shareholders and fcuk the actual infrastructure that's badly needed. |

My lad is a mate of the new Saints Women's FC manager Simon Parker. They play in the same football team in Hedge End on a weekend. By all accounts he's a decent bloke & will be a good fit for Saints. He did very well at Blackburn considering he had very little backing.
Venky's, Blackburn's owners, have decided not to support the women's team up there anymore due to low attendances & costs, etc. They've voluntarily withdrawn from the Championship and have been dropped to the fourth tier of English football.

Just by the fact we are Southampton Football Club, we will sell Dibbling, Fernandes & Ramsdale at the 11th hour of the transfer window when Premier League clubs panic wildly that they're short on players & we will sell. Just when you thought there was a slim chance of keeping them & making a good go of life in the Championship - money talks.
We will sign a promising teenage nipper (or two) from Chelsea or Man City just minutes before the window closes... and any hope of automatic promotion will fly out the window. I feel sorry already for Will Still.
Tis the Southampton way... especially under Sport Republic. |

Not fussed that both are leaving.
Sulemana had blistering pace... but f*ck-all end product.
Tall Paul had a terrible first touch & scored 4 times in 40 games.
Wave goodbye to both  and thank them for their service, but f*ck me, there's gotta be better goal scorers out there for the club, surely?!?! |
