Maybe this is the season when Oscar Kelly steps out of the shadows and into the limelights, filling a spot in the seemingly otherwise undermanned forward line?
Roy Down used to be involved in sorting it out but I haven't seen him around for ages, hope he is OK.... The top of the wall is looking a bit dodgy, some of the capstones at the top look loose and others have gone missing. It could be a superb project for volunteers to get a grip on but I'm not sure its safe to work there as it stands at the moment...It probably needs some sort of scaffolding safety rail if amateurs are going to get involved with it given that some of the stones need re-cementing....
I get the idea of bringing in people who he knows and trusts, but there is a danger that they have all similar experience and expectations about what is possible. I would have preferred a wild card among them, someone with a totally different perspective, even perhaps from a different sport. There is a distinct risk that this new coaching team only knows what they know and are generally in agreement, but where is the challenge to their views? Do they know what they don't know?
There are instances of football clubs investing in different views, think Brailsford moving from Cycling to Man U....
I recall many years ago ( Dave sutton era I think)that we brought in the sprint coach from Salford Harriers for pre-season sessions.. apparently his training was so hard it almost caused a strike....perhaps not the best example but you do wonder if a Ballet teacher could prevent some of hamstring / tendon injuries with some new stretches and warm-up routines?
Jim is keen on his small, incremental improvements, perhaps the training ground would have been a good place to start.... -
From tonights email from Fair Game....the Football Governance Bill is due for a Commons Vote tomorrow evening
"Current football governance does not adequately protect clubs and its communities. With the Football Governance Bill, clubs, fans and communities will be at the forefront, to once again ensure that football is fairer for all.
A recent example of how football governance fails to protect clubs and communities is Morecambe FC. The club were undergoing a takeover from prospective buyers, Panjab Warriors, but after Morecambe FC’s owners, Bond Group, failed to pay wages for staff and players in June, the sale was put into doubt. However, the sale has now been agreed (subject to EFL approval), but not without the potentially devastating impact of administration beforehand.
Another club that illustrates the need for the Football Governance Bill is Sheffield Wednesday. Thanks to late payments made to players by owner Dejphon Chansiri, and multiple run-ins with the football governing bodies over the years, Wednesday have now been placed under a transfer embargo until 2027. With manager Danny Rohl set to leave after his staff’s contracts expired in June, no pre-season agreed and the club unable to support the squad in the transfer window, this summer and upcoming season is looking to be a bleak one for the Sheffield club.
As the Football Governance Bill moves closer, it’s more important than ever to remember why this legislation is so vital. Cases like Morecambe FC and Sheffield Wednesday are not examples of bad luck, they’re examples of clubs being let down by a system that does not offer fans and"
At 6' 5" and with 17 in 46 last season, and with the signing of the midfielder that probably contributed to his tally with assists, this is what we were short of last season. We create enough chances for this guy to score in every game with a finally- fit Rodney making runs from his headers, we should be in for an interesting season..
Rochdale AFC has reintroduced its Under-8 to Under-16 boys' teams and has appointed a new coaching team to lead the youth development program. This team, led by James, Ryan, and Lee, has experience working with young players at various clubs in the North West, including Accrington Stanley's Development Centre. The reintroduction of the younger age groups is part of a broader initiative to attract and develop young talent, with the goal of providing opportunities for players to progress to the first team. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Reintroduction of U8-U16 teams: Rochdale has brought back its youth teams from Under-8 to Under-16, which were previously impacted by changes to the club's funding and EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan) status. New Coaching Team: James, Ryan, and Lee will lead the coaching staff, bringing experience from Accrington Stanley's Development Centre and other clubs in the region. Focus on Development: The club aims to create a program that attracts and develops top young talent in the North West, with a clear pathway to potential first-team opportunities. Community Trust Involvement: The Boys Development Centre, which includes players aged 9-16, is now managed by Rochdale AFC Community Trust. Transition to 3G pitches: From September, all youth development sessions will be held on 3G pitches and will be led by UEFA qualified coaches.
Whereas I doubt the Solar Panels will make £8k every month, they could well average £5k or £6k per month over the year, which would mean a pay off of the investment over 2 years or thereabouts, given a 15 year lifespan, (probably more with these newer panels) that could mean a saving of about £800k over their lifetime after paying off the initial costs....
Thing is that someone like that needs marking.... he would occupy defenders and make gaps and opportunities for other players... and be handy if we were under pressure defending corners....and if he or someone like him can hold the ball up and let us get up the pitch more easily, it makes appoach play easier too.
£800k (10%) would buy us a couple of very decents forwards and pay their wages for 2 years, without affecting the budget....Or.. an excellent centre forward, a defensive midfielder and a six foot six centre half...
Seems like some Watford fans think £8m is a low-ball offer for Baah who is contracted to Watford until 2029... The Watford owner is selling sister club Udinese to some Americans for £150m so there is little cash-pressure to sell Baah at the moment...will Palace step up their offer if in fact they have actually submitted one...? Time will tell, but he does suit Glastner's style, big lads, pace and a trick or two....

Seems like Carlisle have quickly figured out that you can escape the National League if you can score enough goals.... I wonder if McN has had the memo? Building a team around a couple of prolific strikers seems like a better plan than building a team without a prolific striker and then trying to find one that fits in...
