Adding my thoughts after a great away day. Solid performance, never stopped, always probing and trying to unlock what is a decent Bristol City team. Huge win and great for our momentum. I've coated off Madsen here and elsewhere over the past year, but his transformation has been excellent. Really like how he's working harder and being more abrasive. Hope it continues. Burrell's running and effort should be recognised more. Chases every lost cause and makes things happen. Really like this guy. Cook was imperious at the back. Two games in a few days for a man who looked properly injured earlier in the year, and to marshall the defence in that manner was brilliant. And I can't not mention Harvey Vale. What an excellent signing. So positive with the ball, always making things happen. Perhaps what I appreciate most is how efficient and economical he is with his touches - will progress the ball quickly, doesn't take unnecessary touches, reads and anticipates so, so well. |

Read again before steaming in with the knives out. I did say 'if'. I'm under no illusion that anyone is willing or able to buy him. Honestly, everyone is so f#king hair trigger. |

While I think he is a fantastic footballer and arguably our most technically gifted defender, Glass-Salter is just too fragile. He can have all the talent in the world, but the best ability is availability and he doesn't offer it. Just turned 28, so a good age for us to potentially cash in our chips if we can find a buyer. |

What really set apart the impact of Saito versus our other attacking starters (bar Kone), was how quickly he moved the ball. We're at our best when we move it around quickly. Not to dig him out too much, but Dembele will take half a dozen touches every time he gets the ball and it eats up time and momentum. To be fair to him, Madsen is good at two touch play as well, and will play a quick early pass when the chance is there - his splitting pass for Smyth the best example. |

Awful first half, far better second. The Field chance towards the end was the one. He wastes too many of those sorts of opportunities. There's still not enough moving the ball quickly. Lots of holding it up and taking extra touches when passes are on and runners have gone into channels. When we move the ball, we're sooooo much better. |

Madsen is not the man to sit in the middle and connect everything. Too powderpuff and lackadaisical. Hook him for Varane if fit. Chair coming deep leaves a huge gap and Burrell is isolated. We need to pack the midfield, give up the width. Go two up top. |

I appreciate it should be taken with a massive pinch of salt as these things are never public, but one of the click-baity sites says he was on circa £50k-per-week in Turkey. Birmingham paying anywhere near that will see them in bother sooner or later. |

Love these deep dives, always a good read. Intrigued is definitely the word for this appointment. I'm still lukewarm on Nourry, but it's clear that he has a vision and plan for how the club should be structured and operate, and a coach like this is an important cog in that. I don't think the whole 'project' lives and dies by Stephan's success, but if it clicks, we could have a fun ride. I respect the approach we're taking to this. I still think Marti was the right guy, but given the structure and direction of travel, would he have even been on the considered list of candidates under this regime if we had never hired him to begin with? |

I think Errea have done a decent job. Some really nice shirts during their time that will get better with age. If we switched manufacturers, I wouldn't mind someone like Hummel - they've created a lot of nice kits for their stable of clubs. |

I was wondering the other day whether this was a possibility. He's only got a year left at Chelsea, has the same agent has Harvey Vale, and crucially plays in a position where we desperately need a solution. |
 | Forum Reply | Varane being sold? at 14:32 2 Jun 2025
This is the model in action, which is exactly what we want. Fee feels too low for the potential the player has, but selling at the right time (something we rarely do) and reinvesting is the only way we realistically move up in this world. I do wonder what the number is that we'd entertain for him - especially given Espanyol are supposedly getting a wedge for their goalkeeper. |

I like Nardi and agree that he's had a solid debut season. A big improvement on Begovic and I feel confident with him between the sticks. On the Walsh point, I wonder what stopped the club giving him the starting spot this season and electing to bring Nardi in. From the limited games of his I've seen, I quite like Walsh and would earmark him as a starter in waiting. But if the coaching staff don't see it by now, will they ever? |

Yeah, I recall Ainsworth being caretaker, while still a member of the playing staff, for a vile 0-0 with Reading. |
 | Forum Reply | Ronnie “ beckenbauer” Edwards at 11:18 5 Feb 2025
Ronnie was absolute class last night - my MOTM hands down. I really liked his driving runs forward, but I couldn't help thinking that was more out of a necessity to break the lines as Chair wasn't coming deep (where Varane/Field would usually occupy that space). |

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but he sounds little like Marc Pugh and how we deployed him in 19/20. But rather than being run on diesel, he's like a hybrid or EV. I liked Pugh for what it's worth. |
