Plenty guests, have a look at the season by season stats on Wiki, must be about 40-50 players each season credited with a handful of games each. |

Also thought Joe Fagan, seem to remember a story about him guesting at Dale in the 40s before he assisted the club under Harry Catterick in the 50s …but couldn’t see anything to support the former. |

He was stationed in North Africa and Italy (I think he was in the 8th Army, Desert Rats, not sure he would’ve guested at Dale). [Post edited 11 May 4:40]

There was the War League and War Cup also. Have about half a dozen programmes from that period (Second World War), looks like single sheet programmes were, understandably, issued as standard. During the Great War, Sandy Turnbull (disgraced former Man United player) guested for Dale before being killed in Arras, 1917. [Post edited 11 May 4:37]

AI has ‘piecan’ as originating from Wigan and translates as ‘simpleton’ |

I thought he was calling the referee a ‘pieman’ … not that it makes any more sense that way either! |

A young lady collapsed / fell in the mainstand towards the end of the Saturday game. Anyone know her and is she ok? |

Poor quality football, players that cannot control the ball, fail to read the game and make poor quality decisions at key moments. However - folks who may criticize need to understand… that’s where we’re at as a club as far as the quality of talent available on the market within our budget and it will continue for a while. Desperately disappointing Still, I’ll make my first game next Saturday and cheer the lads on cause that’s what we do. Don’t over dramatize the lows or over emphasise the highs. Just get on with it and keep the club going. [Post edited 6 Aug 2023 9:07]

Although I don’t necessarily doubt the intentions of the board, I do question their competency as many others have. So, to give them additional monies secured against the ground to continue managing the business in a similar vein would probably send us beyond the brink. Unless, there is a specific reason for a boost in funding which could see a change in fortunes. Understanding their ultimate goal at the EGM alongside the Plan B (what happens if the motion is not passed) will be critical for Shareholders, including myself, to make a decision. Desperate times and difficult to put a positive spin on it. |
