Bella-Kotchap gone to Verona on loan
at 14:11 27 Aug 2025

According to Transfermarkt first team squad is now down to 26 with anyone or all of Edozie, Smallbone, Diaz, Taylor, Fernandes and Aribo going. If they all go must leave at least 4 slots open. Surely some incoming soon?

This week is the most important week of the season

You are not kidding. He already has £30m from Sulemenia, Tall Paul, Sam AA and Bednarek and he could get £40m for Dibling, £35m for Fernandes and a combined £40m for Smallbone, Taylor, Suguwara, Aribo, Edozie, ABK and BBD = £145m. He has spent £10m on Quarshie and Downs and something on Roerslev. There's either quite a lot in the kitty or a big cheque on its way to Serbia.

Views From Behind the Dugout
at 09:36 24 Aug 2025

I bought a late ticket for right behind the dugout which is always an interessting vantage point. Here are some observations:

1. Will Still is very good at whistling
2. There has been a nasty outbreak of exposed white socks on our coaching staff
3. Someone needs to give our ball boys and girls some training
4. Manning is better than Welington
5. Mark Robins is a very good coach
6, We should have bought Sorba Thomas
7. PatfromPoole was right about Johannsen all along
8. Downes is not the player he was 2 years ago
9. Back 5 and 2 holding mf doesn't work. Too narrow
10. Fraser is our best player at present
11. Robinson needs to toughen up a bit
12, Fernandes knocked £5m off his price - tried too hard
13. We have no decent forwards
14. If Stoke are top it is a very poor Championship this season
15. Jury is out on Still - it's a fine line between enigma and bullshitter

Southampton V Fulham The Preview
at 10:11 25 Apr 2025

I would just switch Tall Paul for Dibling. I was at Fulham vs Liverpool a couple of weeks ago which they won 3-2. Fulham bullied Liverpool out of it in first half but once Slot brought on Bradley and Diaz, and just ran at them Fulham crumbeld and were lucky to hang on. Get Dibling, Fernandez and Sulemenia one on one on their back 4 and we will have a chance

One last thought from me on today’s game
at 16:28 16 Feb 2025

Totally agree he was useless. Comes from the Jon Moss school of never venturing outside the centre circle and then wondering why he can't see anything. That said we must be the least streetwise team in the premier. it was obvious he was not going to blow for much so you have to get stuck in. Boscombe did it brilliantly. Keep tight, go in from the back not the side. Our lot back off and just do not challenge

Due to another dire performance and my general anal retentiveness I spent a lot of yesterdays game just watching our defence. Bree is probably the worst Premier player I have ever seen, decision making appalling, very weak in the few challenges he makes and plays on the half turn but in the wrong direction! Bednarek is just simply not good enough, lacks positional discipline and constantly over-commits. Wood was also very poor, he scuffed every single pass he made. Sugewara also clueless. He simply cannot defend. KWP and Wellington were Ok, but often out of position. Amazing it was only 3-1.

Bournemouth Sold Out

Ticket exchange is open which means it is another virtual sell out. I think every home Premier League game this season has been the same which is remarkable given the sh%t which is on show. COYR

Where are we today? And where will be be next year?
at 17:02 11 Feb 2025

That is a brilliant question. I remember watching the home game before against Everton which we won very comfortably 2-0 and thinking we had a really good team who had got into a winning habit. Salisu was in excellent form and JWP and Oriel completely bossed the midfield (to the point where Mason Holgate and Allan nearly had a fight0. Stuey and Shane Long scored. After the Villa game Ralph never got it back under control.

I don’t think he is great but I can see what he is trying to do, he just does not have players to do it. At one point today at about 75 mins I saw him look along the line at the subs who were warming up, grimace and then turn away. He obviously thought what’s the point they are all as bad as each other.

The positives today
at 12:04 22 Sep 2024

Good to see someone focussing on the positives for once and I agree there were many yesterday. Could I also point out that we were supposedly in for Clarke, Delap and Smodics. I wouldn’t want any of them based on yesterday. Ipswich also wanted THB and Downes. Add in the performance of their new centre backs and Fernandez, Taylor and Sugawara and I think we have had a much better transfer window and spent less.

Looks like he is going to West Ham. BTW you can add Sergio Ramos, Willian, Perisic, Martial, Depay & Balotelli to the list of available free agents. Fancy any of them?

Now what?
at 10:40 31 Aug 2024

Looks like we now have a 33 man squad including Sicknote & Tall Paul and a pretty bloated wage bill. None of the incoming would have been cheap wage wise. We will need to offload several of Tall Paul, ABK, Manning, Edozie, Wood, Edwards, Larios, Sulemenia. Can we still loan out into Championship and how many transfer markets are still open?

Tom Fellows
at 16:30 27 Aug 2024

I see we are being linked with a late bid for Tom Fellows from WBA for £10m. I have to say I think he would be worth a punt. He played really well against us last season, particularly in the playoffs. He is very tricky and unlike most of our current wide players seems to have an end product.

Most important 5 days of the season

They also broke every financial rule in the book and stayed up with 32 points. If we don't sell 2 of Alcaraz, ABK, Tall Paul and KWP it is highly unlikely we will sign anyone over £10m. Still paying the price for 2 disastrous windows. Meant we had to loan our way out of the Championship and then splurge £40m of the promotion premium on TBH and Downes. Our only hope is that there are quite a few other poor sides who rely on 1 or 2 key players i.e. Wolves, Palace, Everton, Leicester. Injuries will play a big part this season.

On the subject of the mythical striker we are after who is proven at premier level, costs under £25m, doesn't want massive wages and is happy to come to the saints, exactly who are we talking about? We have to be realistic and try to be a bit imaginative. if you look at last season's leading premier scorers and just concentrate on those we might have signed in the past you get Watkins, Solanke, Bowen, Mateta, Wood, Hee-Chan and Wissa. On the basis we will not be getting any of those who else would anyone suggest? I would try for Summerville.

What have learned from the Euros so far?
at 17:02 24 Jun 2024

1. Che Adams is one stair short of the landing in terms of being top drawer.
2. Janny B is just about good enough for the Premiership - but only just.
3. Jose Fonte is an insightful summariser / commentator but will he be a good coach?
4. A lot of ex-Saints still play international football
5. There aren't many good goalies around

Any additions?

Very unlikely unfortunately. Ireola likes him and he is relatively cheap. They are also likely to lose a couple of players this summer.
