I never think it is a good time to play a newly promoted team very early in the season. I was surprised Barnet lost at home to Fleetwood Town in their opening fixture, as were the bookmakers. Oldham picked up a very good point at hot favourites MK Dons last week. Let's hope the occasion of their first home match overwhelms them. |

It is very disappointing but possibly connected to the Tovide transfer not getting over the line. I was very impressed about everything (well maybe not his hair) about Lyle Taylor last season. He seems exactly the sort of man you'd want in the squad and good luck to him in the future. As for The Latics, I fear this is a very bad time to be playing them. |

QPR have spent £1,300,000 of the rumoured £3,500,000 they will receive for Kelman on forward Rumarn Burrell from Burton Albion. That still leaves a large amount if they want Tovide. I hope Samson stays but if he's to go let it be soon, enabling Danny Cowley to bring in a couple of replacements including Lyle Taylor. |

I'd no idea till I just checked that the city of Colchester has a bigger population than the town of Ipswich, according to Wiki. I can understand your frustration at the off field failings. It is particularly disappointing because on the pitch things are the brightest since Phil Parkinson was your manager. Last season The U's average home attendance was the highest for fifteen years. If the brothers can lead the team to a serious promotion challenge this season it must be possible you'll break the 6,000 average figure for the first time since 1969. The Cowleys effect on the crowds at Lincoln was astonishing. They more than trebled the average attendance at Sincil Bank within three years. Obviously Lincoln doesn't have a "big club" anywhere near so their situation is a little different. But Colchester United could be entering a golden era providing it isn't scuppered by circumstances beyond the control of Danny and Nicky. I've been pleasantly surprised by the transfer business so far this window so there's reason for optimism. Up The U's. |

"The clock is ticking but you don't see a quick fix". From what you've heard should we be worried a promotion push might be derailed by financial problems in the coming season? |

It's good that the uncertainty is over. But it's bad that the budget is being substantially reduced. Colchester United have the best management team in League Two and given a competitive transfer fund could be title challengers this season, particularly with some promising youngsters coming through. |

I hope he's right but I keep coming back to the same obstacle. Every day I check on here and news-now several times to see if there has been progress regarding the takeover. The longer the saga drags on the less the chances of his bold prediction coming true. |

Yes but playing the two newly promoted teams away in the first month isn't ideal. |

I believe this would be a promotion season for The U's but there is one big obstacle. If the takeover is completed within the next couple of weeks fine. If it isn't finalised till late August transfer plans will probably be on hold. There was reference a few weeks ago in the local paper to a substantially reduced budget while no new ownership is in place. The signing of the young fellow from Spurs was a positive but I fear the Cowleys' hands will be tied until Mr Cowling has been replaced. It's always exciting when the fixtures are released but let's hope for some positive and even more exciting news from the boardroom soon. |

I'm afraid it's too much to expect Cheek, Taylor and Tovide all still to be Colchester United players when the window closes at the start of September. If they were there'd certainly be reason to be excited for the coming season. |

There is talk that Wigan are after him. Someone on the Bromley message-board writes of rumours that Colchester United have bid £250,000 for him. He's a very good striker at League Two level. But he'll be 34 in August and, unless the takeover is about to be completed, I can't see a six figure sum being paid even for someone much younger. |

We can only hope the work being done over the close-season will enable the pitch to withstand such frequent use. But, even if Ipswich Town are paying a substantial amount for the privilege, their women and their under-21's added to Colchester's under-21's are going to have the groundsmen hard at it. |

Aaron Collins has signed for MK Dons. They are putting a very good squad together. Perhaps they will finally live up to being favourites yet again. Their odds are extremely short though. |

I hope so but I fear any positive transfer business will be on the back burner till the takeover saga is completed. |

Yes, very enjoyable and like most I wasn't giving us a hope until the 75th minute. Yes we'll almost certainly be relegated next season but the financial boost means the future looks bright. We might not be able to buck the trend of promoted teams coming straight back down but it is good that today means only one of last season's relegated clubs has gone straight back up. Now for The U's to be at Wembley a year from now or better still automatic promotion. |

The Piatak family's ownership of Carlisle United has been a complete disaster. They have pumped a massive amount of money into the club by League Two standards. But they failed to get the most basic and important factor right; an experienced and knowledgeable football man to oversee footballing decisions. Colchester United have outstanding football men in the Cowleys. The most important brick is in place. Just as long as the new owners don't think appointing Wayne Rooney instead would be a good idea! |

The average home attendance appears to have been the highest for fifteen years. Apart from the obvious success the brothers led Lincoln to on the field it was how they awoke a disillusioned and uninterested support that was so impressive. Within two seasons they had more than trebled the average crowd at Sincil Bank. I thought it would be far more difficult to do the same in Essex but the signs are good. It is over fifty-five years since Colchester United's average home attendance topped 6,000. What a glorious 2025-26 if such a number were cheering The U's to promotion. |
