JS has talked quite openly about wanting to keep players involved so their morale doesn't drop so, yeah, I think that's most of it. Though that doesn't make the same amount of sense for Esquerdina who must be well pissed off. Agree it would make more sense to get Sam on in his normal position a bit more often, or at CB when that makes sense, and if RND isn't fit they should stick to the model and play Esquerdina. |

Absolutely. The key will be modifying how we play when that's happening. Against Millwall we didn't adjust how we played nearly enough when it was Big Michi up front rather then Burrell. I'm no Stephen Hawking but I don't think Big Michi would have got to those if he was still running now. So if it's Kone starting in front of that axis of evil, great stuff, but it'll need to be approached differently* *Insert comment about professional footballers, £££££, and being able to figure it out Shirley? |

Yes, seeing how many of you there are on here I'd like to state for the record that you're all doing sterling work, thank you, etc... |

I've probably said before, I was a Yankees fan when I first moved to NY, but was quickly schooled that they were in fact c*nts so I bought into that fully and became a Mets fan. The recent Ryder Cup misbehaviour reminded me that, regardless of their team, New York sports fans are often pretty hard to be around at a game after a couple of Buds and a hearty feed of processed meat. When I started watching the Mets lose it was in Shea Stadium, which was massive, so you'd have plenty of room to sit in a quieter corner and watch the planes land at La Guardia with a brief glance at what was (usually not) going on at the plate. When they moved to Citi Field, while a great stadium,.everyone was a lot more tightly packed, and you'd be closer to the sort of finely crafted brain dead shyte that Rory and co were last month. Anyway, every year around this time since coming back here I decide I need to find a better way to stay in touch with highlights. I know I've asked before but am open to any good updates on that. I'm going to make a point this winter to sort this out in time to watch a far richer Mets team lose next season. [Post edited 22 Oct 9:25]

That's a fair point. I also thought Smyth (who I love) needed to do more to block the cross for the second. But it's useful to see the replay a few times for the first. I was harsher on Nardi at the time than I feel now. Yes it would have been great if he'd been able to do more, but RND and Cook looked more at fault by that stage. I do wonder if that goal would've happened if Mbengue was playing. He is fairly mental yes and acknowledges that himself, but I think he's getting a bit more grief now than he should. We knew about the cards and that is certainly coming to pass, but he gives more pace and coverage than we've had for a while. Morrison is excellent but if we're sticking with Cook (which we should), Mbengue beside him makes a lot of sense, I think. |

Maybe one of those round bottomed Belgian glasses that needs its own support structure? |

Yet somewhat ironicabbly (sp?) Dembele played the killer ball for our only goal today. So role's reversed there. |

I think it was a surprise that his deliveries weren't as expected. But I thought Kone was off it as well today, and I wouldn't have left him out either. But like Kone, I'd keep him in the starting 11 wherever possible. |

I hope that's the end of the Kone-Frey experiment. It's not just that it doesn't work but we've also got other, better, more creative combinations, which after so long with fcuk all options makes it even more frustrating. I'd say that as a dysfunctional focal point, a couple of mistakes, a goalie who cares but can't seem to patrol his own box were issues. Most frustrating though was the lack of intensity during the middle 50 or so minutes of the game, I thought anyway. When a tackle or header was there they competed but no enough closing down, putting under pressure, fighting to get back to the pattern of the first 15 mins. I just think we had another gear. |
