Julien Stephan - Word of warning
at 16:21 17 Aug 2025

The vitriol and finger pointing was always going to happen after this loss. No surprise there.

At least ST put his hand up and took some accountability for failing to respond to the unexpected change in formation by Watford, if not the insipid first half efforts from the players (ahem, Madsen).

Very early days, but at least plenty of posters can see the underlining potential of what a fit team/squad could produce this season.

“Grip your shit” at least until 10 games in people. Pitch forks at the ready after that.

I personally don’t think the team selection on Tuesday had anything to do with resting players.

For me, the decision was taken to just put as many dev players out there as possible, whilst giving minutes to Burrell and Nardi. We had absolutely no intention or desire to win that game, it was a PR exercise, no more, no less.

As for Nourry picking the side, utter tosh.

It’s not the pace that was the problem, he was getting bullied. As somebody else has said on the thread, he needs to take a leaf out of Smyth’s book and go down like he’s been shot. He barely got any free kicks yesterday and yet was flattened constantly.

In the next home game, I want to see Nourry in his pants , marched out to the centre circle, placed on his hands and knees, self flagellating and begging forgiveness for having the audacity to buy Celar and Madsen.

As a QPR fan watching from my arm chair, I expect nothing less.

(Don’t expect an admission of failure or apology any time soon).

We really could do with a beast or two in ours. Too much emphasis on small ball players and luxury players leaves us open to be physically bullied, as was the case again today.

The same one as every one else. He was trying to cover two full backs, that aren’t full backs and had his work cut out. Mbengue stood right off his man for the first one and Morrison lost his man for the second one. He made some mistakes, but anyone dealing with that front line on their own would. Thought Morgan had a decent game, but he was done by 60 minutes and being totally skinned by Baah. It was Morrison trying to cover his arse for the last 20.

No medals for a footballing masterclass, but for digging in under difficult circumstances, when someone like Madsen totters around hiding, he gets my respect.

The problem with Madsen is that he hides. Varane was constantly demanding the ball. It’s not about making mistakes, it’s about wanting the ball and wanting to progress it. Madsen , unfortunately, has exactly the same traits as Dozzell before him. He looks scared to death to impose himself in any shape or form.

Disagree completely. Think he’s had a great game.

Definitely hiding. Stands behind opposing players and doesn’t make an attempt to move into space every time Morgan has possession. Passing has been well off too. Chair having to drop deep to do his job. Losing patience with him.

There is always excitement when a new player walks through the door, even last years signings. It’s when it becomes clear that they are pants that the forums explode.

But you’re right Nix, Varane, Morrison, Dembele and Morgan are showing real promise from that bunch and Mbengue, Poku and Burrell look good with Kone to come.

Like you, still on the fence about Madsen. Technically good, but lacks physicality in this league.

I’ve all but given up on Celar and with the club having signed two new strikers, I believe they have as well. Will be difficult to shift though.

Looking forward to seeing Kone play today, especially if we see Burrell on at the same time, albeit playing in a slightly deeper role in the absence of Poku.

The bad patches come when half the first team are in the treatment room and the good ones come when they’re on the pitch.

Improvement in the squad depth with players of decent quality is one of the many jigsaw pieces that need putting in place. Frey now being the third choice striker instead of the first choice is another big step in the right direction.

More pieces are still clearly needed. Small steps and all that.

Agree with you entirely. Our fans have had to put up with an absolute shit show for long enough and have been left with no faith or belief in the club or its ownership. I feel the same.

To then put your faith in a 27 year old (apparently good looking and wearing an expensive suit) with a somewhat dubious background is a big ask. Sounds implausible.

He’s been here just over a year, pissed Clive off no end (big mistake), and dropped plenty of howlers along the way.

But, he appears to be learning from those mistakes, especially with the recruitment this year and it “feels” like something might be brewing. Chair, Dunne and others have extended. Sort the bleedin’ injury issues out and I am starting to get hopeful. 😬

It’s miserable being angry and disappointed, we need some joy from our football club.

We all want the same thing GB86, but how do we get there?

We have all watched in dismay as Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton, amongst others, have rode off into the promised land, developing great players and teams, whilst we have imploded, largely through piss poor management of the club and its resources and a dizzying array of different managers with different ideas and philosophies.

The last ten years has been horrendous and something fundamental needs to change. We are a small club, with a dilapidated outdated stadium and very little cash. So how do we do what those above have done?

The new training facility was a good start and kudos to the club and its owners for getting it done.

Very simplistically, the clubs above have progressed by recruiting well and developing players to sell for big money. The only way to progress is to generate more revenue. Lots of it. Regularly.

Most clubs now realise this is the only possible way forward (Wrexham being an outlier). But you need to plan and execute with extreme diligence and foresight.

There is some evidence to suggest that we have taken some positive tentative steps in the right direction. No one is trying to say that Nourry is the messiah and has saved us from eternal doom. It could turn to shit tomorrow, but some supporters, the glass half full type, try to see the positives in what the club is trying to do, despite all the obvious mistakes and ropey comms output.

All we can really do is sit tight, hope the new boys excel and we keep making slow but very deliberate progress.

Christ, I hope we win today.

For a start I would suggest you read my previous posts because it is clear you have no understanding of my views and opinions on the club and its operational methodologies.

Being concerned solely about the on pitch stuff is a million miles from the stance I have taken and you have obviously taken one post completely out of context.

Maybe come back when you have done your homework and can qualify your accusations. In the meantime I will trawl through my Kpi charts to determine which metrics are falling short and implement the appropriate corrective actions.

Oh, Dunne back in training and available for Coventry next week and I believe Poku’s injury is not considered long term, but will revert following further assessments.

As far as the BBTW is concerned, although unfamiliar with this abbreviation and its apparent use, I would only consider Celar an absolute failure, with varying degrees of success across the rest of them. Show me one club that gets every transfer bang on the money. They are all a gamble, especially for the money we have available to spend.

Progress?..continuous incremental improvement works for me, or would you prefer we throw the towel in and not bother trying?

If we do have any money left in the kitty, surely it needs to used on a LB and CM.

No point being overloaded with attacking players if we lose the midfield every week and our left back is a development kid.

If the wheels do fall off, the key will be whether we stick to the plan, adjust it slightly or tear off in a completely new direction in the way we have so many times before.

Personally, just put the wheels back on and keep moving. And maybe get a spare wheel or two for the journey. It’s going to be a long one.

Poku, Dembele, Burrell, Kone…..those are the sort of crumbs I/we could survive on.

I don’t really need my emotional strife soothing by words from the guy upstairs in an expensive suit.

Fair enough Clive, I personally prefer not to sit in any camp and try to look at the bigger picture.

I agree with pretty much all of your assessment and Stainrods assertions above, but a CEO is never going to stand front and centre and apologise for dropping a howler. The only thing he can do is rectify the mistake and move forward. He looks to be doing just that, although that still remains to be seen, dependant upon which camp you reside in.

Nourry is an odd one. As a 27 year old he appears to be well versed and articulate in boardroom speak, but strangely distant and lacking in the social aspects of the club that our fans expect. I don’t doubt his lack of life experience and background have shaped his profile, but he does, again, appear to be learning from his mistakes. Time will tell.

Tomorrow’s result is largely irrelevant. The bigger picture is more important but we live in a world of the here and now and the responses will reflect that.

I do understand the “accounts” that are literally seething the moment something goes wrong or a mistake is made. We have all had a lot of shit to contend with over the last 10 years and you personally have had to report on it, in detail and with humour, on a weekly basis. Not easy, but always appreciated.

I hope for all our sakes, progress is made and the anger subsides. Life as a QPR fan should be far more enjoyable for all concerned and we can talk about how well we played instead of who is to blame for the ongoing demise of the club we all support.

I don’t see Levy or any other CEO coming out begging for forgiveness when they make mistakes.

What makes QPR fans, or you, believe they should have the privilege?

If Nourry or anyone else makes a mistake, the only one they have a responsibility to is their immediate boss. Go and apologise to Ruben and learn your lessons.

The constant need for transparency across everything in life is all well and good, but looks to be creating more anger and division than the good it was supposed to.

No need for the f*ck me sarcasm either.
