To paraphrase Winston Churchill - when asked about his perceived over indulgence with alcohol - “I have taken more out of QPR than QPR has taken out of me"
Hopefully Marti will still be here in August - but if not I would look at the Go Ahead Eagles head coach Paul Simonis. A young coach with a good style of football and punching well above his weight in the Eredivisie.
Dave's condition continues to improve. I was with him for a couple of hours today and he was far less tired than on previous visits and back to his talkative self.
Dave is incredibly appreciative of all the good wishes messages that he has received from the QPR family and obviously hopes to be back to full power as soon as possible. Although there is currently no real indication of recovery timescales, I expect that will probably become clearer in the next few days.
I can also confirm that we intend to have AKUTRs on sale at Stoke next Saturday and then at Loftus Road for the Cardiff game. I know that any sales will put a big smile on DT's face.
I'm just back from visiting Dave who is still in Bolton Hospital. Firstly he looks much better than he did two days ago and has also been moved from a single room, out onto a larger ward. Tests are ongoing - so presumably a clearer picture as to timescales for recovery will duly follow. Dave is really appreciative of all the messages of support. I'm certain that they have given him a tremendous boost over the last few days. I plan a return visit on Sunday - after which I can further update the good people of LFW with Dave's progress.
I've just been visiting Dave again this morning. I read out your post to him and his laughter was so loud that it actually caused some concern on the ward. Brilliant
Thanks. I hope to see Dave again tomorrow, so will ask about possibly collecting the fanzines from the printers and bringing them to the Stoke game. I'll keep you posted
I visited Dave at Bolton hospital yesterday morning and can confirm his sense of humour is very much intact. He has certainly been through the mill in the last few days but is now hopefully on the road to recovery. However I'm not sure if he was more pleased to see me or the charger that I had taken for his iphone 😁
Awful news for Carlisle. They have a great set of loyal fans, whose company I have enjoyed on many a train journey to and from Euston over the years. They deserve better.
Vitoria have had a remarkable season so far with a 2nd place finish in the initial Conference League table. Hopefully they have made some money from their European exploits this year and will pay a fee for Hevertton at the end of the proposed loan. Good luck to the lad.
I saw him in the recent U21 victory against Preston at Chorley. A very young Rs team won the game 0.2 and Ridwan scored the second goal. He is a really strong lad for his age and certainly wasn't phased by the physicality of any defenders. What impressed me most was that he pretty much ploughed a lone furrow up front for the first 55 minutes of the match. During which Preston absolutely dominated possession. He never stopped showing for the ball and made life as uncomfortable as he could for those marking him. The game changed on 55 minutes when a Preston player was sent off, at which point we then began to dominate possession ourselves. Ridwan then benefited from more support via our wide players and midfield and was on hand to fire a powerful shot home in the final minutes. Early days for the lad - but certainly some encouraging signs
Look out for former QPR player Fred Pentland's hat in the Bilbao museum. Fred was revered for his time as manager at Athletic Club during which time they won both La Liga and the Copa Del Rey. Fred was an integral part of our 1907-08 Southern League Champions team and also played in the first Charity Shield match v Manchester United.
My first season supporting the Rs I can recall the bitter disappointment of being knocked out of the FA cup in the 6th round by Leicester City at Loftus Road. The matchday programme shows us as 4th in the league and we certainly went into the game as favourites. An unknown Leicester youngster Joe Waters scored both goals to defeat us 0.2. (Strangely enough he was the topic of a recent conversation in the Crown and Sceptre - although he was consistently referred to as Joe "Effing" Walters by all us older chaps who remembered him) Leicester were a good team in those days with regular England goalkeeper Peter Shilton and future Internationals Frank Worthington, Keith Weller and Steve Whitworth in their ranks. Leicester went on to lose in the semi final to Shankly's Liverpool team after a replay. The replay date clashed with the Portugal v England friendly in Lisbon (No international breaks then kids!) Consequently, with no Liverpool or Leicester players available for selection, Sir Alf Ramsey opted to give both Phil Parkes and Stan Bowles their England debuts. A small consolation for the 10 year old me....
This has been my concern for a couple of months now. The Nourry appointment looks more bizarre with each passing defeat. The fact that the club awarded a contract to his consultancy in the first place was crazy enough. A two man band headed up by a man child barely old enough to shave. Then to appoint him to fill both the CEO and Director of Football rolls......really? The rumour mill suggests it was as a result of a very convincing presentation to the owners. (Sound familiar) Surely the owners can't be that gullible........🤔
