Will Still Can Now Wing It In Formation Change
at 13:29:56

He could have played Fraser and Robinson as wingers, Armstrong is also seen as a winger, so I disagree when you say he had no choice. 3 at the back clearly wasn’t going to work no matter the personnel, so why persist with it? It’s negative and draws other teams on to us and then the mistakes happen. Not so bad to revert to if two nil up and the oppo are putting us under pressure.
Why is it better to do one thing without the right personnel and not the other anyway? Manning for me is a left back, not a ring back or winger. When he’s a wingback his positional play defensively is questionable. We could have also gone for two up top in a 4-4-2 which would have been better than 3 central defenders. Also this is the system that created the ‘trauma’ from last season that the players allegedly have, so why continue with it? Madness

Southampton At Watford The Preview
at 08:29:33

I don’t see how Quarshie and Taylor fit into a back 3 unless THB is the right side and Quarshie in the middle. I think THB, Stephens and Wood may be the combo today if 3 at the back.
Archer has to start, he’s the best finisher. I see Fraser and Robinson starting today so I think only one other attacker, CA for me.
Personally I feel we could play Robinson and Fraser on the flanks with Azaz in the middle of a 4-2-3-1.. but we haven’t seen that including Fernandes this term yet so I expect the same formation as the first 3 games. We need a win today or it’s 1 or 2 points from 3 games and so a poor start.

Southampton V Stoke City The Verdict
at 13:30:42

Spot on KingOlaf. Our recruiters are pathetic. Still handed the 2 points to Stoke, not the players. He should be taking the responsibility. We only came back against Wrexham because we ditched the stupid system we are starting with and Ipswich are a poor side who hadn’t replaced their stars lost, we still had ours. They were there for the taking and we scraped a draw.
I was so excited and enthused by Still’s words but he and the board have displayed naivety and a sense that they don’t learn from their lessons or indeed other people’s lessons.
After last year, I’m almost done with SR already, a day and a half off work as holiday to go to Sheffield in 4 weeks is now looking questionable.
They need to get this Dibling mess sorted quickly now after wasting 2 weeks so we can actually get some attackers in who can do the business. We need about 4 judging by what we’ve seen this month.

Southampton V Stoke City The Verdict
at 12:58:23

In 4 games Will Still has merely shown me that he is another manager who hasn’t a clue what he’s doing. As such he takes the negative defensive route. Playing 5 at the back and 2 holding midfielders at home against Wrexham and Stoke is the problem. 3 attackers in a 5 foot 5 guy who wasn’t good enough for West Brom, an 18 year old and a guy who isn’t really an attacker and doesn’t want to be here.
This is why our season has begun so poorly and the high energy and the other hull that Still has come out with is impossible with the line up he puts out.
Another who refuses to see that 3 centre backs doesn’t work and invites pressure on the defence and defensive midfielders so we’re left with the likes of Downes to try to receive on the half turn and become Pirlo.
You have always slated my idea of having Lampsrd as manager and the difference is easy to see. We will never hit 7 at home or 5 on the road with this bottler, we should, yet again, have gone for Lampard, he was keen, our owners and recruiters are morons. They have had all summer to sort out the crap and we’ve done nothing.
How many new signings started on Saturday? Zero
This club is going the wrong way again because they don’t know how to recruit players or managers, now we have another with zero experience of the league he’s managing in..
Total jokeshop, 3 attackers on the pitch will get us fighting relegation not promotion.

Jesus, I think I follow you..
Decent money for him but I feel he will show his worth. Hopefully get it completed quickly so we can bring in our targets without the stress of the last minute madness.

I would imagine a bench spot at best for Saturday. Looks like a good solid signing, probably better than what we have at the moment, only time will tell.

Southampton Table Offer For Middlesbrough Ace To Replace Fernandes
at 21:41:24

Decent player, not the quickest but has some style. Tends to score a few goal of the month candidates as well as being a good provider. I would have him for 15 million and keep Fernandes, the 2 together would be great.
I don’t get why we didn’t sell Dibling for 37.. we could have brought in Fellows, Azaz and a right back for that money..
We need to offload some of the notgoodenoughs soon

Who Could Stay Or Go At St Mary's In The Last two Weeks Of The Transfer Window
at 17:23:28

Of course SR will reinvest some up to the point where there is balance. We can lose 5 and replace with 3 on better wages, maybe better players.
I think Dibling will go, Palace are also interested and Edozie, Aribo and ketchup will go too. I would sell Sugawara and THB too as they will bring in enough cash to replace with better imho.. I just hope we keep Fernandes and Robinson as they are key.
We need a new right back, a striker and two attacking mids/wingers.
We’ve got to send a few out on loan like Diaz and maybe Armstrong. I would keep Smallbone for this season tbh, good man to bring on in second half.

Southampton At Northampton Town The Verdict
at 11:09:50

McCarthy is indeed not the best no.2, dropping an easy catch which they nearly scored from.
I blame the manager for this poor performance. Again we started with 3 centre backs and two full backs. I don’t care what anyone says, the two out there are not wing backs, they are full backs playing as wing backs. As such we don’t have the attack which this formation is supposed to bring.
For most of this game and on Saturday, we were missing a player in the middle or up top, because of this stupid 3 centre back persistence against teams far weaker than us. Will Still needs to realise this quickly or it will be a poor season of frustration and our attacking players all losing their confidence.
Downs would have scored if Diaz had managed a simple pass, instead he passed it behind him. Diaz has to go. Sugawara was awful apart from the strike which hit the post. It was a terrible team effort, probably the worst I have seen for a long time. Dreading Ipswich if we continue with this stupid formation which doesn’t suit our players. Groundhog Day…

Southampton V Wrexham The Verdict
at 10:51:00

I disagree with your comments on Jay Robinson. This was first game of the season and his first start for us. I thought he did really well, hit the post with a great effort, was a constant threat and showed his passing ability and vision as with the through ball to Fraser, who for me was busy without any real meat. Armstrong struggled and for me is no longer a starter when we have Stewart, Downs and Archer on the bench. His shooting was poor and we could have made this game a lot easier if we had taken one of the first half chances.
Jack Stephens made a sliding tackle in the box and chased back when Hardie was though one time and made a last ditch challenge, twice saving us before a brilliant finish on the stretch when the only way to score was off the bat if he really went for it. He showed the courage and leadership in those 3 pivotal moments to silence those who continually criticise him.
If we keep what we have from yesterdays squad and add two more players in Fellows and another creator then we’ve got the squad to finish top 2.

Will Still Speaks Ahead Of His First Competitive Game In Charge.
at 16:49:27

You are being very presumptuous here.. Surely Saints have decided that Dibling should train alone to avoid injury and thus the chance to bring in big money. I think it is disingenuous to suggest this is driven by Dibling. The key phrase I picked up on was non contact training which suggests it’s is making this decision to protect our potential windfall, not Tyler.
Secondly, it seems like we are the ones who have told Aribo that he is surplus to requirements, not him telling us he wants out. Quite simply, he’s not hungry and energetic enough and gets found out. So again, I think we have made this decision and giving him time to try to find a new club, not like there’s been loads of offers coming in and his head turning, no he’s just no longer required.
As for Edozie, I don’t know, something doesn’t seem right because we loaned him out last year when he would have given us more than Diaz and probably Fraser and Armstrong too.
I appreciate you may have your ear more to the ground but I don’t see the angle of bitterness that you see, I see sensible decisions being made to give us the optimal chance of being prepared as best as possible for the future.

Southampton Set For Yet Another Turkish Transfer Stand Off
at 16:43:12

I would just refuse to do any business with them. What is the point? Even if they did offer the right price, they would mess about afterwards anyway and probably not pay on time with UEFA doing nothing about it for ‘political reasons’.

Just tell them we’re not interested in doing business with them or mess them about and tell them what goes around comes around afterwards.. gotta play hard ball with these jokers.

That said, I’d probably take the 4 million and get him out the door.. he didn’t even want to play for the u-21 team to build fitness and game time, get rid of the clown..

Southampton Winger Set To Move To France
at 17:11:14

Maybe he didn’t want to be here.. I’m not sure this was a good idea, as with the other Sam. With Mara, Strasbourg will have an all Saints front 3.
I don’t see Fraser on the wing anymore and Dibling is supposed to be more central attacking midfield so we’re left with one winger, Robinson. For me Diaz and Armstrong are not wingers. Strange move this one, I like Edozie. We surely have plans for better players to come in? Or is it that nobody wants Diaz and Armstrong so we’re stuck with them?

Who Will Captain Saints This Season
at 17:29:59

Wouldn’t be surprised if he went for Downes, despite what happened last year. Natural leader by example with the effort he puts in, captain may make him more measured and less rash, he plays in the middle of the park and will start every game. He’s then also the right man to captain us in the Prem next year…
Give him the responsibility and I think he will grow into it quickly. As you say, Jack is our club captain and may not start or stay fit all year.
Charles is too young for me in the Saints shirt but I would happily see Fernandes as skipper too, another who leads by example and has the passion.

Southampton V Valenciennes The Verdict
at 11:45:44

All Still can really do at the moment is get every player fit, work out who is likely to be good enough to stay and who we will end up losing by September. The other thing he can do is blood the new players and the youngsters, although it only looks like 2 or 3 of them.
Archer does look like the best finisher so I can see him getting over 20 goals if he stays fit. I think we’re better geared up for a 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 with the players we have so Archer and Downs could be the combo.
We desperately need to get rid of about 10 players but obviously little interest in them..

Saints Award Jack Stephens A 3 Year Contract.
at 16:43:17

Fantastic news! We need a club stalwart to help us through what needs to be the most important rebuild in our history. We all know he isn’t first choice and doesn’t command high wages. This makes a lot of sense to me. That said, I agree that 2 year extension would have been more logical at 31. Perhaps the three years suggests he will continue after his career in some capacity at the club.
You won’t find a braver defender who is willing to throw his body in front of piledrivers when others turn away and the ball deflects into the net (Aribo, Bednarek, THB to name 3 who I’ve seen shy away).
We don’t see how much Jack brings behind the scenes but it’s clearly a lot!
