It'll be interesting if they win as they'll be playing Braintree Town - who have a number of ex Col U boys and Southend who also have a few ex Col U players (or should that be rejects) next season (if the latter fail to go up).
I think Mickey Rooney would have done a better job than Wayne Rooney if indeed he was still alive. Then again I also think Mickey Mouse with Donald Duck as assistant would do a better job than Wayne Rooney...
Best day & season in the clubs history (though the 1971 FA cup win over Leeds runs it close). Plus that season we gave Premier League champions Chelsea a real fright in the FA cup.
I was working on the day we got promoted but saw the results on TV while it was quiet.
Over 30 English clubs in the Premier League & EFL have American owners or co/part owners so it'll be interesting to see what happens and how the new owner decides to invest in the club. Hopefully it will turn out like the clubs in the upper echelons of the league and not like Carlisle, Crawley or Gills. Though for the most part clubs have usually thrived & prospered under American owners.
It was a bittersweet time under RC's ownership - I think tbf to him he tried to do the best he could for the club in his tenure but he made a lot of bad decisions and the club sunk from the Championship to L2 (and nearly the national league).
The way Walsall collapsed last season I think Newport would beat them tbh. I do see what you're saying though I think it would be more like Newport playing Notts County or AFC Wimbledon...
York due to virtue of their points tally and the history of the City & its football team - I remember them knocking Man Utd of the League Cup as I looked at the score thinking someone on the teletext was having a wind up.
Sorry S****end, as far as I'm concerned they can enjoy their continued rivalry with Braintree Town... It made me laugh when they were singing "one team in Essex" - obviously they haven't looked at the EFL league table lately as we're the one team in Essex.
We've improved and made progress but didn't quite make promotion. Had we won 6 of the games we drew we'd be sitting in 3rd place That said I'm far happier with a decent 10th place than a last day survival act. I think we're in a similar position to where we were in 1995. We had Steve Whitton back then and brought Tony Adcock back and got to the play offs the next season. Now we need to bring in a similar hot shot strike partner for Lyle Taylor.
Sounds like auto promotion is out thanks to closet Grimsby fan Brakespeare... On a serious note though we really need to tidy up at the back as we did for many matches.
Lets see who they are lining up. I don't think they'd let Hopper & Jay (and possibly Tovide) go unless they had their eye on someone.
Its a shame about Hopper as he was a good player but just not a consistent goal scorer - whether that was through lack of service or he just wasn't accurate enough is tbd if another striker comes in though Joe Taylor never seemed to have a problem finding the back of the net when he was loaned to us & Lyle Taylor seems to be a more consistent goal scorer.
