McNulty is one of the most frustrating managers we've had. He frustrates the f**king life out of me and I don't really like his style but you can't be labelling him as a terrible manager.
Based on the way we're playing and the quality we have in the squad, I'm expecting us to go 5 wins out of 5. We have incredible momentum.
I've been very critical of McNulty and wanted him sacked at various points last season. The football was slow, boring and ultimately... Unsuccessful.
I couldn't be more delighted to be having McNulty proving me wrong. It looks as though he's learned lessons. And the signings he's brought in are allowing him to play the way he has always wanted to. Fair play.
I hope to be drafting my public apology in 6 months.
Just as a side note... I'm loving the aggression we're showing. 2 games in the last 5 days and we've had 2 scraps/fights. Before then I can't remember the last time we were so involved and 'up for it'. I'm sick to death of winning the fair play award so this stands us in good stead to avoid winning it again.
I appreciate the game was being utilised as a test event for the new stewarding company and the new ticketing system but from what I could see, neither were really up to speed.
My 'search' involved a wand being waved over me, which made absolutely no noise when waved over keys/phone/wallet. I doubt those scanning wands were turned on or of any use whatsoever. And while I hope the stewards are never called into action reacting to any kind of major incident within the ground, they were the usual statues. Looking as though they've no idea what day it is and very little crowd interaction from what I saw.
And the new ticket scanners... Not working. So there's a bloke in there scanning tickets with a phone.
Also, something which the club really needs to resolve is the safety announcements in the Sandy Lane. They're inaudible. If the tannoy system is fairly clear then why on earth aren't those safety announcements? The sort of thing the HSE wouldn't be impressed with.
How many more opportunities to grow the fanbase are going to be bottled?
How many more games and opportunities to achieve success are going to be bottled in the final minutes?
I alluded to it a while back on another thread but what we all see as common sense quite simply gets labelled as nonsense by people like McNulty and others involved in football. That substitution of Allarakhia on Thursday night was suicidal and we all knew it.
We can all see what's wrong. Why can't he?
I don't want him to be anywhere near this club come the start of pre season. He doesn't have the tactical intelligence to manage the difficult games or the capability of finding a way to win against relegation threatened teams.
We all wanted him to prove us wrong but he's just reinforced the fact that he's not the man to take us forward (or up!).
While the result wasn't important to our position in the table, it would have been nice to carry some momentum into the Play Offs with a win.
The changes made sense, Gilmour must be knackered and we need to look after TAR & Gordon. (These 3 and Ayinde were there yesterday and did a 30 minute session of running/warming up before the game).
The changes were evident in the way we played from the start. The frustrating slow build up play was back which got people so annoyed and bored in recent months. It's a shame to say it but East is guilty of slowing us down so so much.
Fair play to Braintree, they were ruthless and were the better side yesterday. Their number 3, the left back, was excellent.
There's a pitchside video somewhere from that Leeds game and they're pretty much behind Henderson for his lob. It's beautiful viewing. May have to try and find it...
Once again, we have the opportunity to show the casual fans and those who have never stepped foot in the ground what is on offer and we bottle it. Both on and off the pitch.
Sadly, I'm sure there's many regular fans the same as I am and completely unsurprised at the inability to cope with a crowd significantly larger than usual.
Project 5000 is a complete fantasy and until wholesale changes are made on and off the pitch/sideline, we'll be stuck with the usual hardcore of fans and nothing else.
"I wonder if Jim did swing the players by the Wembley arch on the way back from Woking. Bet the thought never entered his head."
It's unlikely he did and just headed home, which is surprising as he loves going the wrong way on a football pitch.
It's pointless having a fantastic defensive record if you're doing next to nothing at the other end of the pitch (barring a few games). Another game in our hands and we've thrown the win away by worrying more about not losing than going for more goals. It's incredibly draining.
I'll hold my hands up too, I wanted McNulty gone after that Barnet game but it's been an excellent turnaround.
I think the fan response was justified at the end of that match and do think it may have sparked some kind of fire inside McNulty and the team. Until then, it was just grumbles and groans rather than audible displeasure/annoyance.
The games since have been positive, direct and attacking. Fair play to Jim for his substitutions and line ups which have been spot on.
I can forgive a learning manager if they're willing to try different players and tactics but blindly sticking to the same philosophy with the same players could easily have had him out of a job.
Let's hope this form continues and we can get a result down the road on Saturday!
It doesn't necessarily need to be a striker either... What a perfect combination we had when we had Vincenti on the wing, heading long balls back infield towards Henderson/Hogan for them to finish off.
We won't see that though, as it's not how JM wants the game to be played.
