An opposite view..
at 10:59 13 Feb 2011

Unless i've misjusdged the mood, it seems most of the posters on this message board want clough out?

Personally, my view is that the constraints placed on clough by GSE have been so restrictive that any judgement on his management at this level, must be reserved until such time he receives appropriate funding and backing to buy the players he wants and is allowed to compete on a level playing field with the likes of leicester. Commons apart, the permanent signings clough has been able to make have been the top performers this season - barker, porter, cywka, bailey and brayford have been much better than the inherited players like green, leacock, and bywater.

Anyone like me, who tracked his progress at Burton over ten years, will know that he tends to progress pretty slowly but always brings about improvement year-on-year. We are still in position to finish higher than last year, with more points. I believe, this patient and studied approach is a welcome change to the usual rapid fire boom or bust method of previous regimes.

The wage bill, when clough arrived, was ridiculous, mainly thanks to jewell and davies. Reading between the lines, when Savage leaves in the summer, we will be back on budget for the first time in clough's time at the club.

Without additonal, and most likely external investment, this really is about as good as we can hope for. I suspect most of the reactionary posters on this forum have followed the rams for a relatively short period of time. It hurts to lose twice to forest and leicester in a season - i can't remember the last time this happened. It also hurts to lose players of the calibre of kris commons - but remember he did exactly the same thing to forest so no-one should've been suprised by his lack of loyalty - which incidentally, i never expect from modern footballers!

Please vent your very appropriate and justified anger at GSE and not Nigel. The time to judge clough will be after they are long gone and he has been given the appropriate time and money to compete.

Cheers, Andy
