You are correct I don’t know and my comments are not anti the current management as this has been an issue for ages. But if I assume that resources are finite. If we have just bought Saito and bid £xm for Ronnie then that must limit the funds for other areas that we are weak. Our squad building cannot be based on short term availability. If we have a balanced squad that is hit by injuries then we need to suck up under performance for some time rather than buy to cover it. If there were no offers for Varane then dont buy Hayden and use the funds for an 8. I think for me it is a balance of a squad that will deliver something like 13th in the league and have a few development players. As you say we could have that but it just annoys me that four games in we are scrabbling around trying make this work. A balanced squad in my made up world would have beaten Preston, drawn with Watford and lost narrowly to Coventry. We then go into the Charlton game with confidence and a win putting us on the cusp of the play offs. I don’t think play offs are realistic but wouldn’t it be good to have a season start with positivity. Most sides don’t lose 7-1. We just seem to make it so hard for ourselves. And to me some of it could be improved with more reasoned decisions. |

Yes would agree, both likelihood and how he could develop. But if we are prepared to spend £xm on Ronnie, could we use that money to make the squad stronger and better balanced? My view is probably. So as a player yes to Ronnie. As a way of making the squad strongest for results and developing the project, not so sure. |

I post rarely. But whilst there are many things that annoy me about Rangers, the lack of consistency and logic really gets to me. If we need a box to box midfielder then we do we keep signing tricky wingers and 10s. If full backs are so important in the modern game why do we have so few options. If Hayden is an answer perhaps we should have sold Varane and used the funds to buy O’Brien. If the project is to develop players then we need a core of performing players to allow the projects to develop and be sold. Dembele trying to play whilst we have no control of the game will not develop his game or resale value. Whilst I would love to see Edwards back it does smack of short term thinking rather than a plan. More look we can have a good player rather than how do we build the best squad we can, whether that is for results or the project. I can cope with us being bad and beaten but only if we are doing everything we can to be the best we can be. For many years it seems like we are making it up as we go along. Not looking for answers or saying anything new, just venting that the lack of logic and basic competence is infuriating. |

Steady at best - it will be like watching Maldini. |

I had the electric mat type installed when we had our bathroom redone, about 10 years ago. It still works. We were told it is expensive to run but we only use it to take the edge off the cold tile floor in winter. So 10 mins a day max for about 4 months of the year. I usually forget to put it on but my wife uses it. You can feel the difference but not essential. |
 | Forum Reply | Varane being sold? at 17:19 20 Jun 2025
Yes would agree with all this with regards Varane and us being able to generate income from player sales. But the manager and DoF will also have their plans for the season. If it is to finish top half then maybe £5m for Varane allows us to build a better squad. Not saying that it does necessarily but that the decision on Varane is wider than just him. It is part of how do we recruit a squad that meets our overall objectives. |

The comment from Ian Mc does not make much sense to me. Shortlists are not static, people are hired and fired all the time and will be pursuing their own options. So either we have a candidate lined up and are sorting out the details or we don’t have anyone we want and need to look again. |

I thought that were a few strange decisions but overall he didn’t do anything that changed the outcome or negatively impacted the game. So from that perspective I thought he was ok. He didn’t make us useless in the first half nor stop our improvement in the second half. |

Perhaps the reason that Frey got a 5 at the Birmingham game and Dykes a 2 yesterday is that 2 different people were awarding scores. In the Birmingham game the marks spread between a 5 and an 8 with Frey with a 5 the joint lowest. Yesterday the scores ranged from 2 to 5 with Dykes the lowest on 2. So both were the lowest scores awarded for that game This is correct for me as all three of our forwards are not producing much. The finishing from all our front players has been woeful for the last six games. |

It also has implications on the financial commitment of our owners if that is their plan. As I understand it there is less restriction in L1 from P&S rules. So if we are cutting out cloth accordingly for L1 it is less to do with P&S rules and more to do with their financial commitment to the club. Is that the case Lassel? |

That is some chart from QPR analytics. I saw nearly all the home games in that period and obviously knew how much worse the results and performances had become. But it is really stark seeing it represented like that. |

Yes also don’t see a lack of effort across the team. In some yes and at times in the game definitely. It is the mental application and desire for me rather than the physical. As evidenced at the end of games when we are messing about rather than putting the ball in the opponent penalty area. |

I suppose the reason that I would not have taken the job would be that there were other clubs where I was more likely to succeed in the championship. Maybe those clubs weren’t interested in him. But if I had a chance at Bristol City or QPR and wasn’t a QPR fan I know which I would choose. Actually would probably still choose Bristol City. But I am glad he is here. |
 | Forum Reply | Be honest at 16:28 4 Jan 2024
Yes that is certainly possible and I have taken jobs where I think I can sort out issues that others could not. I suppose though that I am clinging to some hope that he knows something that will save us, a few million found down the back of boardroom sofa or something like that. |

The thing that baffles me is why did Cifuentes take the job. He has (until QPR have finished with him) a decent reputation and I would have thought would have been a potential candidate for Sunderland, Bristol City or Millwall. What did he see in us? Same goes for Cannon, especially as he signed under Ainsworth. Cifuentes seems knowledgeable and football I would assume is a small world. We have been in decline for 2 or 3 years with little youth development, poor loans and diminishing returns from our recruitment. What did he see in us. To badly paraphrase Mrs Merton - Marti what first attracted you to the bankrupt, lazy and talentless QPR? |

Modern PR is very powerful. I remember when Arteta first left Man City to go to Arsenal he was hailed as having a key role in the tactics and play at Man City, When Arsenal struggled at first he became the guy who put the cones out at Man City. It seems like we have to decide if someone is good before they actually have proved themselves, rather than let them develop and deliver. Although if you are likely to be sacked every nine months then i can see why you would spend time promoting yourself. |

I also think that collectively we can be too quick to write players off generally. Both as a club and a fan base. So when the team is not playing well it is because the players cannot be good enough rather than we need to find a way of them performing better. Last year Dickie was league 1 at best but is fitting into a mid table Championship side, Bidwell was not good enough but played for Swansea and Coventry in the play offs and Luongo was never a championship player but now apparently is. I really hope that we have a couple of years of player development with a few additions rather than the wholesale changes. |

A great article, thank you. I read a lot but do not post very often. I hesitate to ask this as I don’t want to be seen as opening up the painful FFP headroom debate again. But if I have understood correctly there is no head room this season but some next season, although we have used up some of next seasons headroom with the 2 years deals for Cook, Fox and Colback. My question is what is the punishment if we breach in January, by making some signings that are within the headroom for next season? Is the slate wiped clean in August or do the penalties run into next season? As I said not trying to question your previous analysis. |
