Completely get what the manager was trying to do with the changes. They scored 5 goals against Leicester and Bristol – 4 from set pieces and 1 a long ball punt. We tried to stifle that with a line up that was arguably our ‘biggest’ team. But it meant we played like them and that was a painful watch. Hayden and Field is a combination for an attritional game plan. Did we play a forward pass through midfield before Madsen appeared on 60 mins? Lots of huffing and puffing to little effect. Ongoing irritations - we still have the tendency half a dozen times in the game to p8ss ball about at the back when we should be getting the ball forward more quickly. Nardi’s distribution is not up to it. Please tell Jimmy Dunne that it’s not against the rules to take a throw in forward into their half instead of conceding territory and pressure by constantly going backwards. We never have an ‘out’ from opposition set pieces when we keep everyone wrong side of the 18yd box. On the plus side a point, which they will be ecstatic with, a clean sheet and an extended run of no defeats. And thanks to Mbengue, and the ref, for keeping to the card stats. More beer token contributions to tie us over until he’s back from the reset. Cook MOTM for me, followed by RND. |

The problem with CN is that he spouts a lot of stuff that, when you scratch the surface of it, just doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. The DOF role for example. In those recent interviews with Hoopsa and WLS he was asked about his experience for covering that role. He came out with the spiel about his 2-3 year involvement with football in roles which by any measure would not qualify anyone to be the one responsible for such a position at this level. In the interview with Conor when asked directly he replied (‘I’d be surprised’) to the effect that he believed only a minority of clubs in the Championship employed a DOF, again implying that it was somehow now a redundant role across the board, because that suited the narrative. Given he was employed by the club as a consultant for a year to examine our set up and how to improve it you would think that a good starting point might be to look at what clubs who are having greater success that us are doing that we might not be. And yet he claimed he didn’t know how many were using a DOF model. Really? A cursory look at clubs in the championship reveals the majority of clubs employ someone in that role, and most of them you would recognise as having long careers directly involved in football. Swansea, Millwall, Sheff Weds (then), Blackburn, just a selection of comparable teams who did and all of whom finished above us last season. Its spouting BS like this that loses credibility with people, just stop it, you might think it makes you look smart and clever but really it doesn’t. Be in no doubt too, The Hand of Hoos remains firmly on the tiller. |

If we're going to be all about financial sustainability, as we should be, loan players can never be considered an upgrade over a player who you have under contract, because they're never yours |

Between the Spectre of Kelman, the ghostly Hand of Hoos, and the horror show that the start of the season has been we're starting to look like a mini series of Scooby Doo. |
