Rather than casually dismiss the effects of the recession in your opening sentence perhaps you could do a little research into how it has impacted on an average family?

There has been significant increases in domestic fuel, petrol & diesel, food which I think would affect just about every household.

I can understand your frustration but comparing attendances to the same time last year, the year before or whenever without taking outside influences into account renders the comparison pointless.
