I could've sworn that after the 83-84 2-0 win the next time I watched Saints v L'pool it was 1-0 but it was 2-1 according to the stats.

The one after that was the 0-0 league cup semi 1st leg, my memory of that was Paul Walsh spitting at Kevin Bond (please don't tell me that's wrong 😄) and getting Ian Rush's autograph as he was off to Juve at the end of the season.

Steve Moran was a great striker for Saints but I guess in the same way as Rush he had Keegan, Armstrong, Dennis, Mick Mills, Danny Wallace, Ball, Williams, Channon, Golac and Frank Worthington playing alongside him (not all at the same time!)...how could he miss!

Fads in football tactics

I watched the highlights of Pompey v Saints from the late 80s on Facebook...the style of footy looked alien to me from the 2025 perspective, long ball up to the edge of the box mostly.

Surely the best tactic is to adapt to the opponents weakness, last season it was a case of which weakness to exploit first against us 😂

Southampton - night out..?

There's a multi venue music festival going on over the weekend, Music In The City.
My band are actually playing on Sunday afternoon after the game if anybody wants a little distraction or carry on the celebrations. We'll be playing St Michael's Vault but there's plenty going on over the two days. Just check out Music In The City on your socials or the website.

I watched a few Liverpool games at the Dell, I don't think I ever saw Rush score, in fact I don't think I saw Liverpool score!
Was I lucky? I know Liverpool did win 3-2 (when Saints scored that 16 pass goal) but our defence kept them fairly quiet in their pomp.

Hopefully something will click up front soon but I worry about our defence, it feels like this problem hasn't been addressed for a while now.
