I guess as a loan this is less of an issue if intended as back up for Esquerdinha rather than a full first team replacement...?

Any intel (or, ok, baseless rumours, whatever) on what his wages are? Wasn't there a lot of chat about this been an issue before he became a free agent?

Charlton Line Up

Asked my Charlton mate (who I am supposed to watch the game with this weekend...) how he thought they were looking so far , his exact words were "Jones has got us looking really fit and up for it". ☠️

Feeling grim.
at 10:27 25 Aug 2025

This week feels odd, because on the one hand I'm dreading next Saturday -- I'm supposed to be meeting with a Charlton mate to watch it, but have now made my excuses as I can't face being in his company if it goes as it feels like it inevitably will -- but on the other hand just stewing in the aftermath of Coventry is also horrible and I kind of just want to crack on and see what horrors happen next.

The point about how the team and the support always felt united under Cifuentes is key I think, there was always something to feel good about, even if not the result or the performance. This feels entirely different and more terminal.

I realize a few good results can change things to a great extent, but the vibes right now are very bad

"you've really got one alternative, and that is to start the next fred"

Good lord, the thought of it.

Has there ever been a game more cursed than this one against Charlie Kelman's Charlton in the current circumstances.

It'll be a braver soul than I that starts that one. It took more than two decades for my first, it could take longer for my second. (AFC QPR Supporters v Westfield Onsite Maintenance XI)

I mean, I literally said "if the players identify the problem as being Nourry - not saying that this is the case, but in a hypothetical situation where it were the case"

I honestly don't know what to do to remove the taint of association with that match thread. . LFW, tell me how to cleanse myself.

Oh and thanks Jamie, like Jeff said the thought that you had to actually watch all that again to write the report is genuinely horrifying. Kind of cathartic to read though, and a fantastic job at capturing the detail of a farcical occasion

Coventry City 7 Queens Park Rangers 1 – Report
at 08:16 25 Aug 2025

Clive, i spend very little time on Twitter these days (you will never get me to call it X), really only going on there for a few minutes to look for specific info about a transfer, or to see what you or Dave Mc or someone are saying about a particular issue, whereas I once would spend hours just browsing and shit-posting. Whenever I go on there now I'm really struck by how toxic it has become, how much spiteful and aggressive content randomly ends up in my feed of only a handful of follows.

If you're getting the kind of abuse that you've described is there a way that you can come off and just automate your LFW account to share content? I don't really know anything about driving internet engagement, but does you being on there reading comments and replying make a difference? If not, maybe it's time to step back from it? Either way, it can't be worth affecting your mental health over.

I'm sure none of that is especially helpful or anything you haven't thought about yourself. But look after yourself comrade, and do what you need to do for yourself.

Le shrug on todays catastrophuck

Yes I've thought same for the past couple of interviews. There are certain questions to which he initially diverts his eyes in response, before answering, as if he is thinking "hmm, i don't make those decisions so how do I answer".

There is a scenario where Stephan sees this as an impossible situation, and not wanting a relegation on his CV he quits, citing constraints from above and a dysfunctional fitness and injury situation. Now *that* would exert some pressure on the owners to pay attention to Nourry and the running of the club. I'm not saying its likely, or particularly appealing for Stephan having only just returned to football... But still.

Something I've been thinking about is that the classic scenario where players are discontent with the manager and down tools to get him the sack doesn't quite work here, if the players identify the problem as being Nourry - not saying that this is the case, but in a hypothetical situation where it were the case, what do they do? Because getting the manager the sack is relatively easy, it happens all the time. But forcing a change at CEO level is much harder.

I've not seen anyone mention it on here, apologies if I missed it, but do we think Dunne could retrospectively get in hot water over his elbow on Saturday? It looked pretty bad at the time, I was surprised that Coventry made less of it.

As much as like Dunne as a character, I feel like his has form for losing his head a bit when the chips are down, not ideal in your captain to be honest.

Drop Walsh
at 06:06 25 Aug 2025

It's a horrible situation. I remember the post-match interview he did -- ironically enough --away at Coventry at the end of 2023-24. He seemed a lovely young fella, full of positive energy and the joys of Spring. As others have said, if the plan here is to cultivate an 'asset', well we've absolute fcked that so far haven't we, and quite possibly his career in the short to mid-term.

If we drop him there is an implicit suggestion that he is not good enough, if we keep him in when his confidence is shot to pieces and he continues to struggle, his confidence will only get worse and the team suffers. There are no good options here, but if it were me making the call I would swap him out for Nardi on the basis that Nardi has more experience to cope with the current toxic situation, and is at least better suited to our cursed commitment to inviting the press (ridiculous in the circumstances). Hopefully Nardi is professional enough to see the situation with Walsh for what it is, and his being dropped until now won't affect his performances going forward.

We really do need some leadership at the back at the moment, and it doesn't appear to be coming from Cook or even Dunne at this point, the latter of whom I have a lot of affection for, but I don't think he provides the authoritative voice on the pitch that we need. That elbow at the weekend could yet land him in trouble.

Edit: As Loftboy has pointed out on the other thread, Dunne received a yellow card for it so cannot be retrospectively punished further.

He does a remarkable job of on the hand giving voice to the supporters on the commentary whilst remaining diplomatic.

Whenever I watch a stream from another club it really emphasizes just how lucky we are to have Sinton on ours, in terms of his knowledge and understanding of the game.

That feels slightly disingenuous? There have been plenty of usually level-headed posters expressing in detail the nature of their concerns for a long time now. Getting humiliated like we did yesterday isn't fun, but the nature of the concerns people have expressed have been consistent for a season or more. The past three games have seen a lot of these things start to really play out in black and white on the pitch, and at this point I think concerns are escalating because a lot of people are starting to see a clear trajectory that leads to escalating crisis without changes made in the management of the club.

The problem (well one of many) is that any success or failure as things stand sits squarely with Nourry in the current structure. But there is no real mechanism for oversight of his performance as far as can see. I might be wrong here, I know Hunter and others have emphasised Hoos' ongoing presence at the club, although I'm not clear what this entails in practical terms - perhaps someone with insight on this can explain it, I think it would be useful for everyone to understand at this point.

But, with such absent owners it does feel like supporter intervention is important if we want to see changes at the top.

I think we need to also think about what the structure of the management of the club *should* look like, and be able to articulate this.

As Bazza says, we really could do with LSA playing a role here, to be able to communicate the details of supporter concerns in a coherent way.

I appreciate that there genuinely is disagreement amongst supporters on this, although really we don't know the extent of this without supporter engagement from something like LSA.

In the absence of LSA being a presence here, perhaps another important step is the difficult work of building the structures for supporter representation on this issue. Again, the absence of our owners makes this especially important. Nourry, Williams etal need to be accountable to someone, and that might need to be us.
