I've still got the tape of the 5-5 game. Someone outside the ground was flogging them. But I don't have a VHS player! Perhaps they'll put it in my coffin when the time comes! |

"A clear path to the first team" is the Comms team writing the statement for the youngsters in line with the corporate message. But it's still a good message. |
 | Forum Thread | Cricket - tickets for Test at Lords at 18:11 6 Jun 2025
I have 2 tickets for next Thursday at Lords for the World Test Championship Final between Australia and S Africa. I now can't go. They are £75 face value but I'd be happy to give them both for £75 - two for the price of one, or even less if it's a good cause, eg youngsters who otherwise couldn't get to Lords. The World Test Championship is a bit of a nonsense, but it should be interesting cricket. And the weather looks good. If you're interested let me know. |

On one of my first visits to Loftus Road (1975?) there was a fan standing in the Loft holding that very album. Made me think QPR must be a very cool club. And then of course they played wonderful football and we all know the story. Stanley Bowles and John Coltrane, an unlikely pairing, but definitely cool. |

The criticism of Madsen has been justified but he did ok last night. He does give the impression that there's a psychological problem. Whether he can't cope with the physicality of the Championship, whether he's found it hard to adjust to a new country or maybe he's just a quiet, shy lad but whatever the coaching staff need to work hard with him, probably they already are. We need to get the best out of him and last night was a sign of progress. Let's be grateful. |

We need to be realistic. We're a cash poor team, possibly punching slightly above our weight, but tend to put in quite a few feeble performances although on our day we can match the best teams in this division. That is mostly down to finances. Changing the Head Coach, DoF, CE, Head of Recruitment is as likely to blow up in our faces as it is to discover a genius who can turn the club around. Brentford and Brighton have done brilliantly, but they aren't the norm. There are 60 or so teams bouncing around the lower divisions who aren't successful, except the occasional promotion (or cup run - I know!). No one has to support the Rs, although I know it's hard to give up the drug, and there are glamorous (?) Premiership teams not far away if you're disillusioned. Marti has his weaknesses and we can all do so much better from Row G, but does anyone really believe we could find a better manager? And it's not clear that there's a better CE who would come and take over. PS that does not mean I'm a fan of Nourry, just careful what I wish for. |
 | Forum Reply | A turn of Frey's at 09:59 18 Mar 2025
As ever we need to be realistic. We may uncover a 20 goal a season striker in the lower divisions, but they are as rare as hen's teeth. We've done ok to find the 4 strikers we have. Celar needs time, and we probably need to play more on the ground through the middle to get the best out of him. May not work but too soon to write him off. Michi has clear limitations, but I thought his aggression and physicality were vital for us in setting the tone on Saturday. We'd have been much worse without him. I'm doubtful Lloyd will make it, but he's the sort of lower league gamble we have to take. Kolli could be the real deal, but then he'll be off in a year or so, hopefully for a decent fee. |

Filling up on the autoroutes is more expensive. I've just come back from France and calculated an almost full tank costs about 7 euros (£5.80) more compared to a supermarket. But it's usually worth it for the convenience on a long trip. I think Reg document and Insurance Cert are compulsory. I always take them. And as many have said it's just embarrassing getting back onto the M20 at Folkestone after beautifully smooth French roads. |

This is a minefield but some things are not acceptable. The crimes of Hamas are terrible. But I don't think that gives the Israeli government the right to kill 47,000 Palestinians or destroy three quarters of homes and buildings there. But tweeting about it requires careful use of words, something that doesn't often happen on Twitter/X. |

Dunne not done |
 | Forum Reply | Oh well. at 18:06 26 Jan 2025
It seemed to me there was a tactical tweak in how we set up. Morgan was playing wide right to support Smyth, possily to leave Dunne deeper at RB to nullify a perceived threat there. If so, and I may be wrong, it didn't work. We missed Dunne ranpaging down the right and maybe more importantly also missed Morgan buzzing around centrally getting in the way of Bannan and Charles or offering forward options. Our most glaring weakness was not finding the passes through midfield and just shifting it between CBs. One of the ways we'd improved on the recent run was having Morgan's mobility and passing in that position. Anyone else see it this way? But as others have said we were going to lose at some point and we just move on. |

I want us to win every game, so we could end up (miracles do happen, maybe?) being promoted, but I don't want a season in the Prem where we lose almost every game. Some teams are clever and plan for the 3-4 years: yr 1 get promoted, yr 2 use prem money carefully but prob get relegated yr 3 get promoted with a stronger squad yr 4 having used 3 years of prem money (2 hrs in prem + 1 yr parachute) we have a much better squad and stay up. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 This may have been the Burnley model somewhat messed up by Company leaving, but still likely to get promoted again. |

One of the other differences now compared to the glory days, which is different to training for a marathon or even a series of marathons, is pressing and the need to sprint multiple times a game. I know we have players unfamiliar with the concept of sprinting, but they will be moving quickly to cover space (hopefully), block shots of tackle. Before the days of pressing players had longer periods when they could take a breather. Did Geoff Hurst, Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker etc ever press? Rarely. |

A very talented youngster who's lost his way and maybe we can get him back on track? Or the next Ravel Morrison! |
