Dad took me to a few QPR matches starting in 1969 but died in 1972 after which his brother would sometimes take me along with my cousins, but terrifyingly my mum's Uncle Arthur also starting taking me to Chelsea. This led to a bit of confusion on my part about which was my team. Fortunately when I was old enough to make my own decisions I chose the correct path.
For me running got on top of the issue. I'm 6'3" and 15 years ago was up to 17 stones, I started going to parkrun which got me into running more seriously, within a couple of years I was running over 50 miles every week and weight dropped off until I maintained around 12 stones without even thinking about it.
These days, in my early 60s, for several reasons I need far more recovery time so I supplement running with the exercise bike and a bit weight training. I am diligent about my diet five days a week, broadly following some of the principles mentioned earlier in the thread (16-8, eating a big variety of plant-based stuff ZOE style) but allow myself some leeway on Fridays and Saturdays. I also gave up alcohol, all of this allows me to maintain in that 12 stone area.
If you are interested in trying parkrun there should be one close to you, 5k every Saturday at 9am, walkers are welcome if running isn't your thing.
