The season 25-26 squad thread

On Yang, the better he does, the less likely we are to see him with us next season. Spurs will probably loan him out again, but they'll want more of a fee.

No, I wouldn't, either. I think there's a good player in there, but that he's not where he should be given his 'pedigree'.
Held his position well, some good tackles and the header near the end was excellent. Gets uo the pitch, just needs to learn to keep his passing simple.

I think maybe Madsen was better for Yang being there, and vice versa. Yang wants the ball played into space, where his speed, and speed of thought, makes up for his lack of physicality, Madsen wants to play the ball into space.
I suppose it illustrates the importance of signing and playing people with the skill set to complement each other, and also the difficulty of implementing change in a squad that isn't all yours

He's a ball player so looks better when we have the ball, his off the ball work was OK. I decided to watch him (on the stream) to see what he did off the ball, he doesn't sprint anywhere but he was moving and did seem aware of what was going on and his role.
Some of his passing is spot on and, if he can continue his late season progress and he becomes more familiar with his team mates, I think we might see the incisive passing from him that we've lacked as a team. I thought Yang and Saitos movement helped him.
I'm actually delighted for him. In the main, he's had an awful season, and at times he's looked thoroughly miserable. So it was lovely to see him take the applause of the fans when he was substituted.

The sun's out and Madsens back.
Trust us to sign someone with S.A.D to play a winter sport 🫤

Most expensive pub.
at 07:16 12 Apr 2025

That's extortionate, but it does feel that it's getting to the point where, for restaurants to survive, they have to charge more then we can afford.
My locals charge between £3.50 - £4.50 a pint, which, given the costs involved, I'm happy with. I'll often pop in on the dog walk, but I've noticed it's more and more the alcoholics there, they are harmless but boring, talking shite. It's a downwards spiral.
Wetherspoons have announced they are opening their first pub here, taking over the most popular young persons venue in Douglas. Now, I don't have an issue per se with that chain, and I certainly wouldn't if we were paying over the odds for a pint, but we're not, and I fear for the locals.

Marvellous.
You are a very talented writer Clive, we're lucky to have you.
I'd swap you for a competent centre forward in a heartbeat, though......😆

How come we manage to find the least physically imposing Aussies? Is our scout out there into the goth scene, or something?
Anyway, good luck Rangers.
You'll bloody well need it.

Yeah, Dunne not being so attacking may be the manager prioritising not conceding, as scoring goals is pretty much beyond us at the moment.

And if MC leaves, he'll be doing an extensive audit......
Chuck Nourry won't be found Missing in Action.
Or Acton, come to that.

I'm still not convinced that the half-time warm milky drink and comforting story, as encouraged by the sports psychologists to help keep the players calm, is having the desired effect.

Injury hit, on the beach and checked out, QPR soundly beaten – Report
at 07:11 3 Apr 2025

Yeah, agree, I said that on one of the threads.
I wonder what pressure managers in general, and Marti in particular, are put under to include certain players in the match day squad.
NewBee questioned whether our injury crisis is actually exceptional, and Les was brought into the conversation.
The failure of our development squad, for years and years and years, to provide players for our manager to turn to, to be a development squad fit for purpose, makes me want to beat my head against a wall, and is, for me, why it was time for Les, someone I would never turn on as such, to go.
For all Nourrys faults, his stance about older development squad players is bang on.
Having said that, I enjoyed the quarter final win the other night, but I'm not convinced any of the lads on display are ready for the physicality of the championship. Oh, for the return of the football combination.

I know, but I thought, 'what the hell', and went for it.
Alcohol may have been involved, but it was quite liberating, to be honest. I burned my grammatical bra.
Anyway, a double negative would have been a positive, so I brought it back to the negative, therefore enhancing the vibe, if making it somewhat inarticulate.

I'd like to just rip up Madsens contract now, we both go our separate ways, if he'd be agreeable. I actually worry for him a bit, I've never seen a footballer who looks so lacklustre and miserable.
But presumably we can't even do that, as at the moment we're discounting his transfer fee over the whole length of his 5 year contract, and if we released him now the whole fee would appear in one years accounts?
I suppose the best we can do is send him out on loan somewhere, God willing.

I don't think not starting players who won't last the 90 is quite the same as playing a deliberately weakened team. We really can't afford another player breaking down.

But Anderson was decent against Leeds, as was Dembele, when he came on.
As you say, we don't know how fit Lloyd or Morrison really are. Lloyd offers no threat anyway.
I kind of wonder if Marti is sending a message when he brings Madsen on. A bit like someone blinking when being held under duress.
I might pick up on my 10 season long development squad rant soon.
