Every youth team in the world has a lot of filler - and he's only been with us a year from Burnley. If you've got four or five players in and around the first team and doing ok every two to three year cycle of 18-21s year old you're doing well in my opinion. Lots of the others are essentially there to make a team up as is the case in every academy. Was interesting the report from someone at the Dev game who was sat next to an Oxford City scout who felt all our players were at too high a level for them now. Would like to see some of the more talented ones get some decent loans in. |

Absolutely loved my day at Lords yesterday- and this series has been utterly fantastic to watch. At its best, test cricket is unparalleled in sport to me. There's just so much going on. I almost jumped up mid-meeting when Archer skittled Pant. Had it on on the phone with my glasses off so the reflection wouldn't give me away. |

Here today and our batting has been woeful - Woakes running in doesn't fill one with confidence anymore either when defending a meagre total. Not one batter looked remotely comfortable and our three best players played across relatively straight and innocuous balls from Sundar. Ah well - still a nice day in the sun. |

If someone did offer a decent fee for Celar I would but tempted to sell up and move on as far from convinced he has what it takes to be a Champ striker - but I have been very wrong very many times. What I would say in his defence is this is a bloke who is playing his first 'competitive' games since a serious injury that kept him out for over half a year. He is not going to be at peak fitness and charging around so saying things like he's reverted to type based on two friendlies is a bit hasty. It takes most players time to trust their bodies again after serious injury and get that sharpness back. Some, like Jenas, decide to just play a non-contact version of the sport after injuries... Best role I can see for him if he does stay is the 70th minute sub to replace Kelman. I think he does have a bit of anticipation about him - he missed a few good chances based on movement in his first few games with us, and had a good attempt vs Stevenage. Perhaps this is wasting the opportunity for a younger forward like Dillon or Hassan to get some minutes here or there when other forwards, as they will be, are out injured. |

I really liked the look of Cian Dillon in the Dev Squad games and would have liked to see him out on the tour in and around the first team. I don't know much about Ridwan Hassan but now intrigued. Anyone more knowledgeable on him have an insight? |

I loved Hayden's loan spell but hard to see that he is the answer to needing an 8. Varane is in his most useful position and obviously a much better option for us with a high ceiling and bids already coming from the continent. I genuinely haven't a clue what midfielder we could target - intrigued to find out if we do bring someone in. |

I am sure there's a certain satisfaction that the first club to release him as a teenager are now paying £68m to get him back! |

Steve Bould would be an excellent addition to the club have to say. It is difficult as, as many of us have made it clear, Nourry really rubs me up the wrong way with the mini dictator appearance and trickling and hiding of information BUT it does seem like he has a genuine plan for the club. A lot of it is PR but I can't recall the club appearing to have a concrete plan like this during my thirty odd years of being a fan - and it could all fall down spectacularly but it does seem promising. I was a huge fan of Cifuentes and it will be a long time before I let that one go from my grudges but I am actually tentatively excited about the club today. |

Indian attack is so gettable at for England bar Bumrah who is a generational fast bowler. It has been a long time since someone had the aura he has around him. Really good article by Steven Finn on BBC Sport arguing he is the most complete fast bowler of all time - those comparisons are impossible to make but he's the best I have seen. |

If I was a footballer I'd genuinely not sign for a club if I had to wear that Reading shirt. |

I don't know why but I am excited by this one. Let's hope he can play at 8! I am all for this tactic of bringing in talented youngsters from abroad. Reminds me of when I used to play footy manager and my reserve squad was always full to the brim with random kids from various youth set-ups. Full on puppy farm. |

Saw Wrexham after Lewis Travis (well, I read the gossip bit on the BBC app) from Blackburn. Surprised he'd be available for 1.5m as gossip quoted as always looks a decent player. John Swift released by WBA too on that page - god I hope he doesn't sign for a club we dislike and get another hat-trick against us. Not noticed him as much at WBA. |

The whole hockey article take on negative cultures could be written about Man Utd for the last five years. You love to see it. |

I used to enjoy it when it was just the continental champions - watching Utd play legendary sides like Vasco da Gama and the like. This new monstrosity seems as rotten as it gets! |

It's a gripping watch but I get more and more worried about the future of test cricket. It remains the form of the game I am most interested in but it is so hard to compete with the cheaper (imo) thrills of t20 which has managed to make 6 hitting dull to me. Test cricket is just not a sport players can get themselves ready for in a couple of weeks - particularly on the batting side. Saw the BBC quote a Windies central contract for a top player was about £200k a year but they're earning £1m plus for having a bit of a swing in the IPL at a minimum. |

I work by myself but good lord I'd be looking for the nearest exit if my boss used the words "latest recompense for our staff who have so enthusiastically embraced..." about overstocking a minor part of the business. Patronising and idiotic at the same time - impressive in its own way. |
