Paal was one of the few bright sparks over the last 3 years and I feel sad that he's gone. He often had to cover the whole of the left flank (defence and attack) with little support. He came up with some vital goals and prevented many more. There have been some lame criticisms of him on this thread by people with short memories. Without him, we would have been screwed and in a lower division. I wish him well and hope he signs a good contract and gets lots of opportunities. Thanks Ken and best of luck. |

Ah progress. What was our answer to all these very similar (and perfectly reasonable) questions from Cifuentes? Stick him on gardening leave and bugger on regardless. |

He died in Amsterdam. He was a terrible junkie which is why he looked so haggard only 30 years after his pretty boy heyday. There's a documentary by Bruce Weber called "Let's Get Lost" which follows him around and chronicles his last year. Very depressing but worth a watch if it's still available. |

I do remember Jim Gregory sacking Tommy Docherty and then bringing him back a week or two later but I think that was just a power play. We were all pleased he came back but then as soon as Terry Venables became available, Jim sacked him again and we were all like Tommy who? That was 45 years ago but I think there's about as much chance of Tommy Docherty being the manager again than Cifuentes making a comeback, sadly |

Reminds me of Mike Fillery when we signed him from a small second division club called Chelsea. He seemed to be off the pace and disinterested, and got booed by some fans. He was just adjusting to life at QPR and by the end of the season, he was gliding through the gears and a pleasure to watch. It just took time for him to find his rhythm. He wasn't blessed with great pace or eye-catching energy but he had vision and could find an incisive pass or match-winning assist. The following season he was bossing the midfield (with a little help from Gary Waddock and John Gregory) and I hope Madsen does the same next year. |

Came on in the 88th minute against Hull and even later against Middlesbrough when we were losing both games so it would be harsh to judge anyone on that. I thought he was impressive when used last season, he signed a new contract in the Summer, yet he seems to have been ostracised. All a bit strange. |

The pop group Boney M's biggest hit was Ra-Ra-Rasputin. Bobby Farrell, the only male member of the group died on the same day (30 Dec) and in the same city (St Petersburg) as Rasputin. |

I also just read Killing Thatcher on holiday. Like a Le Carre thriller (only it's true) and a fascinating glimpse into recent history with a lot of historical 'what if's' to ponder. |
