 | Forum Reply | Samuels Smith loan from Strasbourg at 12:37 3 Sep 2025
It is a bit odd but Boehly owns both clubs so God knows - but I've read it's because Strasbourg's existing LB unexpectedly signed a new deal and then they also bought Chilwell off Chelsea meaning ISS was not gonna get in their team. So Chelsea exercised their buy back option on deadline day and then immediately loaned hin to us. Or as my mate described it - "perhaps they sold him to Chelsea Ladies or even their Hotel team....anything to rig their FFP figures....:)" |
 | Forum Reply | How do you assess your feelings towards the club and its majority owners at 12:32 3 Sep 2025
Much more positive. I live in Bristol. I have stopped going regularly since about 2019 (for various reasons) and have only been 5 or 6 times since the pandemic plus the odd away game. Kaplan and Levein killed part of my interest in going. But the approach of the new owners plus Sheehan's ability has restored my faith so I will look to come down more often. I never fully trusted/believed in Williams or Martin....their rigidity and stubborness frustrated the hell out of me. To me, Sheehan is going to be a very good coach and talks a lot of sense. Potter wasted our best Championship squad post relegation and Cooper did very well to drag us back into contention. Our squad now looks strong but much of it is potential so we will have to wait and see. Widdell has struggled a bit; I don't rate Eom and our lack of goals has been a problem for > 2yrs now. Idah can definitely help us and Burgess has been great already. Our midfield now looks extremely strong and I like Innoussa. Unlike many I have always rated Ronald....he's scored 4 in his last 6....still people moan about him- strange. Folks - this League is there for the taking. It truly is. This is the best opportunity , post relegation, for a club to hit their straps and get automatic promotion. Cov, Boro, maybe WBA.....and the relegated sides are bound to improve. Bristol City fancy their chances too. But why not us?! I'd like to think we must have a half decent chance of Top 2 although I'd be pleased enough with Top 6. Considering we managed 11th last season with an inferior squad.......... |

Fair point but the biggest reason this is down is simply that the numbers in the stadium are well down so no way is revenue from catering going to be maintained. Just simple economics. Demand and supply |
 | Forum Reply | Vipotnik hits the ball very hard at 02:26 30 Mar 2025
I'd never seen anything in him at all til the Blackburn game except that he can whack a ball. But he's looking sharper, stronger and more confident. Worth persevering with, though. |
 | Forum Reply | Williams out at 08:22 18 Dec 2024
As someone who now rarely attends, disillusioned as I am by the Yanks ownership, I agree with you here: I think Williams is doing better than expected giving the dearth of attacking talent available. If he finishes top half he'll have done well this season so not interested in judging him further til next season. Martin Russell caused untold damage to this club....it's just that people gave him a free pass. |
 | Forum Reply | Could be it for Russell Martin at 12:37 7 Dec 2024
To be fair , Pep has managed for about 18yrs now and has no idea how to organise a defence (as we've seen this season). However, Martin Russell doesn't have the players to bail him out and as OHG said, Manning and Wood in the Prem ain't gonna keep a team up. |

The commentators were good today- knowledgable. Naughton was excellent today. For whatever reason he has played extremely well of late - looks much happier at RB than CB |

Good post spoiled by a ridiculous last point. Charles, Latchford, Waddle, McCarthy, Thomas, Trundle, Scotland, Graham, Bony , Llorente, McBurnie, Piroe and so on - unloved?? Give over. |

Yep, you're quite right. And the Whittaker sale is gonna prove more costly than that I suspect. For balance, of course, they have made money from good appointments and good player acquisitions at times - Potter, Martin etc and Downes, Lowe , Piroe, etc. But overall, in theior terms (financial) they've turned a £120m asset into one worth a 1/5 of that, at best. |

Much as I dislike our American owners, this isn't really a good or necessary time for us to be trading players. We aren't going anywhere this season barring some kind of freak set of results. I'd rather see us identify who/what we need for the summer and then back Williams to bring in said players and dispense of who he doesn't want/need. |

This is a kind assessment. But to an outsider, it's probably a balanced assessment. Where they "failed" undoubtedly was in a) failing to keep us in the Prem and b) getting us back up within the parachute payment window. So, effectively, they created the current difficult situation. Which is why those of us in the know criticise them and would prefer them to disappear. Their stewardship of DC United has been pretty much a disaster on the field so bringing that experience into the argument hardly helps them. Levein joined in July 2012. At that point they were 3 time U.S. League champions and rarely been outside the Top 10 sides in the States. Since 2012 when they finished 3rd they finished 3rd again in 2014 but since have disappereared without trace and last 3 years have finished 24th, 16th and 28th. Does this sound like a "good" record? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_D.C._United_seasons |

It feels like it's been years since we have. We were occasionally lethal on the break under Cooper. Likewise with Martin but consistently? You'd maybe have to go back to the Rogers and early Laudrup days. |
 | Forum Reply | Luke Williams at 17:58 5 Jan 2024
True. His experience as Head Coach is limited & wildly contrasting. He took Swindon down from League 1 in his 1st full season. But at Notts, he's been wildly successful. As Managerial CVs go, it's certainly an interesting start! |
 | Forum Reply | Walsh at 13:09 3 Jan 2024
He's made 90 League appearances ever and he's already 26yrs old. Only 60 of these were starts. You're quite right - he was a disastrous signing. Anyone who thinks he is a "great" player must have a very different definition of the word. [Post edited 3 Jan 2024 13:12]

I'll look forward to this. Loved the mid-winter WC last year and few admit (though it's obvious) that holding it in Nov/Dec was far better as players are knackered in June/July. Weather seemed not too hot, exciting games. Holding a WC in Qatar was utterly ridiculous but I'm not sure how many countries are whiter than white. Very close to zero. Nowhere more corrupt than the U.S......not seeing many moaning about them buying the WC? We will see what happens come 2034 - an awful lot will happen before that. Sport provides a release from the increasingly miserable world we inhabit. |

With the current drive on net-zero etc I cannot see this happening in a million years. And what about cost? Championship clubs - it would cost tens of thousands/week to enter this so also cannot see it being financially viable. |
