In all of the post-game chat, no one seems to have mentioned that although Morrison and Mbengue were Ok on the ground, they got pretty much beasted in the air by Leaburn. A lot of our ‘midfield’ problems stemmed from the second ball from those knock-downs. I did wonder whether moving Dunne into the middle just to compete against him might have helped, but I can see teams targeting us if that’s our central pairing |

Apologies - non Rs related.. Me and the Mrs are travelling to Northern Spain in 2 weeks. Train straight down to San Sebastián, then following the coast using local trains. Have got Bilbao / Santander / Ferrol / Gijon / Pravia / A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela on the itinerary so far - nothing set in stone. Any other reccomendations (or suggestions for removal)? |

Just finished Caledonian Road by Andrew O’Hagan. Found it really compelling on how power seems to work in London. If only some of it is accurate it’s worrying |

Loved the first series. Even better that a lot of the cast of Spiral and Braquo were in it! |

Not sure your last sentence is in any way justified |

Quite a few Hampton R/s on here. I play Vets and walking football for Hampton Rangers - any of you get down there? Live in Esher - long way from Acton where it started Likes - Easy access to countryside, very safe, good pubs (Albert arms in particular) Dislikes - about as middle class as it gets |

Can anyone explain how you get a competitive advantage out of this? I presume that everybody is using some form of analytics for recruitment? I imagine that a few (e.g. Brighton and Brentford through their betting company owners) have more / better data, but for all of the others, is it simply a case of having better analysts to interpret the data? In the old days, a scouting system presumably depended on trusted scouts with a track record of finding players - what drives the advantage today? |

As I posted on another thread ‘ Special in French would mean Weird, so I don’t think there’s much need to take this literally. ‘Il est un peu special’ would translate as ‘he’s a bit strange’ |

I don’t know if this helps - but when the manager says ‘it’s a bit special’, this is probably one of those french expresssions that doesn’t translate. ‘C’était un peu special’ would mean ‘it was a bit strange’. And not in a good way |

It’s OK Bazza, I think your view probably reflects that of a large number of supporters. It’s quite possible to feel that there’s something not quite right about the way CN acts, yet also feel very positive about some of the things being done, particularly youth. The 2 positions are not mutually exclusive. I have to say that I thought there was a lot to enjoy about some of the football we played, with all the usual caveats |

He’s a good example of how you monetize misogyny and racism. Straight out of the Tommy Robinson playbook. If you can find me an example of this so-called complexity that isn’t pseudo-intellectual bullshit, I’m all ears |
 | Forum Reply | How optimistic are you now? at 15:12 30 Jun 2025
As with every pre-season, and I’m sure most club supporters feel this, looks optimistic on paper. As ever, we’ll have to see how it matches up with reality. I’ve always been in the ‘why are we getting rid of the manager so soon?’ Camp, but am cautiously optimistic/ foolishly optimistic on Julien Stephan. I do like what seems to lie behind our recruitment so far - if we keep Kelman we’ll have 2 players that made the L1 team of the year, which is what we should have been doing for a while now. Think the first 6-8 games are key - solid start and I think we could be a surprise package - slow start and I think we could really struggle. So I don’t know really. |

I worked for Reuters for over 30 years - one of the challenges a news source of that type had was to be seen to be providing news independent of bias to a global audience (Terrorist / Freedom Fighter). Social media has obviously done a lot to disintermediate the usual information providers, for good and bad. On the good side, relying on newspapers owned by owners with an agenda as the only source of the truth is now less of an issue. On the minus side, anyone now has an opportunity to spew garbage. I think the adage of “trust but verify’ still holds true as credibility is an earned currency. Bias is interesting as it works in so many ways - reality is that people often believe what they want to believe despite all available evidence. Social Media doesn’t hold many admissions of mistakes Incidentally, one of the things that we all had the opportunity to do, irrespective of job role was attend the journalists’ writing course. Concise use of language was seen as being key to communication. Catering to your audience and avoiding language posturing / grandstanding is a good way of establishing rapport. Interested to know how you get on. We’re planning2 weeks there in September, taking local trains from San Sebastián up to Santiago de Compostella. Avoiding the bigger towns and hoping to get more of a local flavour. Was inspired by a book called ‘Slow trains around Spain’ by Tom Chesshyre |
