This was the moment we all lowered our expectations, another toothless display straight from the Russell Martin playbook, massively out-passing our less illustrious opponents, but without a hint of an end product. Shea Charles was probably our best player, but the bar was very low, really no one shone in what was the epitome of a lack lustre display.

Keiffer Moore was good for Wrexham and the horrible McBurnie was good for Hull today, but we ignore these transfer targets for pony-tailed prima donnas that don't break a sweat or get stuck in - we really do never seem to learn.

This is the weakest Saints team we have seen for many a long while and survival is increasingly looking like our only aim for the season. Such a hard gig being a Saints fan.

Will Still was an odd choice - the latest of many odd choices. These are early days, but it is a gamble that could spectacularly backfire.

Looked likely winners after the first half, but got bullied when Baah came on and him and their other scorer looked like the two best players on the pitch. Robinson looked our best player.

Should have finished them off at 1-0, but not clinical enough.

Who knew Manning would become a free kick guru?!

We look like we will be challenging for play offs, but nothing too much more on this evidence, but still early days. Much preferring this season to last anyway.

Saints didn't read the script and we produced our own Hollywood ending. Maybe finally our players are fit enough to score last minute winners.

Our 3 most maligned players put in match winning performances with Manning MOM for his 2o minute cameo! We deserved the 3 points by the end, but Edwards had a nightmare at the back and it may have turned out differently if Moore had stayed on.

Ultimately Saints found a way to win, with an excellent use of subs. Enjoyable start to the season.

Apart from Bowen West Ham were pretty poor, but a much more enjoyable match from a Saints perspective.

For once the subs made us stronger not weaker although didn't notice RS at all. A draw seemed the least we deserved.

Our fans were amazing, well done if you were there.

Prefer Rusk in charge to the previous two - low bar I know!

Newcastle have better players, we are lacking confidence, still trying to get up to fitness levels, exactly what happened was to be expected.

We actually scored a good goal. McCarthy had a good game. I like Fernandez, It wasn't another 4 or 5 goal drubbing. Those are the positives. It is what it is.

A baffling match. Horrible first half with Downes lucky to stay on the pitch and Forest ruthless with us. I thought we were lucky with both var decisions, but then ended with a properly rousing finale that could have earned an unlikely draw and again gives hope for better things to come.

The double A battery pack of Armstrong and Archer always ends in defeat, I can't bear to see this combination again.

The improvement in Big Les, Aribo and Sulemana is impressive.

Will the tall Paul goal open the floodgates? We can only hope.

I prefer these defeats under Juric (except the Brentford one) to the utter borefest under Martin, but sadly they are still defeats.

Actually more sad than disappointed. This was the most I had enjoyed watching Saints this season and with better finishing we would have been out of sight.

Juric is getting a tune out of Sulemana who looked the best player on the pitch until Amad stole that mantle. Also seems to have transformed Big Les and Aribo.

The substitutions were a disaster though and contributed to the collapse. MF seems critical to our set up.

Better days ahead!

Makes you realise how may more points we could have now, if we had taken this pragmatic and sensible approach in tactics. It wasn’t pretty, but more importantly it wasn’t suicidal.

You can tell the players are happier with getting the ball cleared quicker.

It was difficult to know how much influence Ivan had on this, but presumably some, so a promising start.

I like the back three. I would ask why Wood has not played more, but we all know about RM’s infatuation with JS, but He seems comfortable at this level so far.

Lesley looks a different player. I wonder how many more may have a new lease of life?

Substitutions were spot on. Dibbling was out of sorts, Sugar was visibly tiring and Lesley was an upgrade on Aribo.

I am sure we are still doomed, but better Fayre ahead.

It wasn't even that bad, just virtually zero threat.

Seems pointless sticking with the game plan, a pragmatic manager is needed not a dreamer.

Lumley looks terrified at corners.

Nathan Wood saved us a couple of times and did well, upgrade on Jack tbh.

Sullemana = why?

Us endlessly passing in front of a packed defence really does seem like a waste of time.

After completely dominating for 44 minutes, it took an heroic goal line clearance from Sugar to save this game and possibly Martin's job.

The substitutions just seemed chaotic.

Well done James Bree for repeating history for getting a last minute winner in this competition.

I was expecting a proper beating, so the fact that we dominated and looked good against one of the super rich teams was actually encouraging. Ultimately of course it was disappointing, but some encouragement for the future.

Sugarara looked good - dont know why he got taken off.

Not keen on theatrics but Diaz will become a cult hero I reckon

Dibbling and Amo looked good when they came on, not so Archer.

THB, FD and KWP as we all thought easily Prem quality.

Also as we all thought Macarthy not Prem quality.

This was a complete performance, scintillating first half, professional second half. If we carry on at this level then we can do the autos - damn you Saints making me hope again!

Sorry for Gav, but I think this is a blessing in disguise, so much less messing about at the back tonight.

Exciting game and great ending, but an all too familiar pattern is being established of early dominance followed by a poor attempt at keep ball leading to often fairly mediocre opposition getting back in to the game and stealing or nearly stealing points.

I would love to be proved wrong, but I don't believe this team has the mental toughness or this manager the guile to win every game and claim an unlikely automatic spot, but you never know...

Not just because of his goal, but Downes was MOM, although an unlikely challenger was JS with two timely saving tackles.

What a game to choose for your first away one of the season - truly awful. The only excuse I can find that it was very windy.

Apart from Aribo, Downes, THB and Sulemana when he came on the rest were very poor.

Harwood Bellis seemed very frustrated by his team mates, probably can't wait to get away!

Well that was traumatic.

The only positive that can be derived from losing a game that we had total control of, is that we can stop hoping for automatic and instead settle for losing in the play offs!

As others have pointed out before despite some excellent play there is a real brittleness to this team and Saints always look like we are about to concede.

Entertaining game, Stuart Armstrong looked imperious at times, substituting him, Aribo and Frazier was akin to signing our death warrant in this game. Ultimately incredibly disappointing and doesn’t bode well for the Play Offs.

Sadly Gav is no where near good enough, Yet another soft goal was the turning point.

Even more disappointing was the damp squib of a second half, where substitutions made us weaker.

It does feel like the wheels have come off. Without Flynn Downes we are looking pretty average.

3 defeats in 4 have ended automatic hopes for me and on this form we could lose play off place!

Strange match - phenomenal first half and I genuinely thought we would score 6 or more, but second half felt really quite flat and all the subs played poorly.

Fantastic form though and every hope of automatic promotion now.

What a great performance. For the first time ever that I can remember I gave every Saints player at least a 7, even Manning, who's sublime involvement in the 4th goal almost earnt him higher!

Goals 2,3 and 4 were very high calibre.

Che went up a level today, possibly to attract Premier League suitors, but I will take it.

Have to start believing now, don't we??
