He’s an attacking winger, which is a position that effectively doesn’t exist in the formation Martin is intent on playing. |
| Forum Thread | Back 4 anyone? at 22:58 8 Feb 2022
As far back as I can remember, The Swans have played in various formations with a back 4. This is the 3rd strait season we have mainly used a back 5, or back 3 with 2 “wingbacks”, and for me it has several major drawbacks in attack and defence. - 3 CBs is too many when most opposition teams play with 1 striker. It reduces the number of creative attacking players you can field, at the same time as forcing you to hold possession deeper as that’s where the numbers are. When you try to play it out from deep, everyone upfield is marked and the only “free man” is either another CB or the goalkeeper, and they are unlikely to create many goal scoring opportunities. - Playing only 1 wide player on each side means they are either pinned back defending against a pacey winger, or if they do venture forward, they leave the 3 CBs horribly exposed against the aforementioned pacey winger. Surely it can’t just be me longing for the days of 4-2-3-1. That’s what Swansea’s passing game and subsequent success had been based on from Martinez to our Premier League days. If nothing else it’s certainly better to watch. |

Exactly. Laird was a decent winger, but a poor defensive RB. He would often be caught up the field leaving Cabango exposed 1v1 against a speedy winger. |

Update - Swansea Bay Metro vs Swansea Parkway In short, no mention of “Parkway” station in report (hopefully the idea is dead) Recommendations for 1st phase - use of Swansea District line as “metro” line (Pontarddulais - Swansea) with 6 new stations. Use of existing west Wales line as second “metro” line (Burry Port - Swansea) with 1 new station. Phase 2 - new Clydach to Swansea line via Swansea docks and SA1. New Aberdulais - Swansea line again via SA1 and docks, with several new stations. https://gov.wales/swansea-bay-and-west-wales-metro-weltag-stage-2-report |

Good result in the end, w**k performance though. Some observations:- Pitch = dreadful Referee = poor and inconsistent Wales Back 4 = shambolic, slow and weak Wales midfield = lightweight and slow Ruben Colwill = was he even on the pitch? UEFA = 🟨

Brilliant performance! Best for years? 2 welshmen star with bat and ball and Hogan with the winning delivery. Perfect! |

Weird one for me? Surely worth a shot off the bench at least? Discuss…. |

If Cooper and the club agreed to part ways 2 weeks ago, then the club would have been sorting things out in the background for a replacement from then on (at the latest). The old “he was on the final shortlist last time” story just sounds like a bit of spin from the club to soften the blow that he is probably the best we can get within our budget at short notice! |

Doesn’t ring true to me. More likely, there was a falling out months ago, both parties wanted to part ways, but the club didn’t want to sack Cooper and pay him out of his contract. Both Cooper and the club wanted another club to come in for him, as that would be a win all round. Cooper gets out of dodge with his reputation in tact and a pay rise, and the club get rid of Coops, not only without having to pay out, but potentially getting a compensation fee for him. It just makes more business sense that way, and these owners are just businessmen. The good of the club/team/fans is of a significantly lesser concern. |

We seemed to be firing on all cylinders until Feb, around the time Hourihane and the 2 yanks came in on loan. It would seem Hourihane was definitely Coopers man as he started regardless of form, but does anyone seriously think he wanted Morris and Arriola? If the owners were interfering with his transfer plans, may have caused a falling out. Speculation of course, but entirely plausible. Anyway, whatever happened, Cooper had a right jib on him for the rest of the season, and the body language and performance of the team went south. Something has clearly been wrong in the camp for a while. |

Agreed 2 weeks ago?!? But still let him take training and take the side to Plymouth? Bizarre. |

The potential European”Super” League, featuring the team that haven’t won their own domestic league since 1961. Also starring currently London’s 4th highest ranked club who are currently 9th in the league! Staggering levels of hubris, even forgetting the odious greed. No promotion/relegation, no qualification for other completions, no jeopardy, no history, no meaning. This glorified pre-season friendly tournament doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. Also, “European”? It has 3 clubs from London, 3 from the Greater Manchester area, 3 from North West Italy, 2 from Madrid and 1 from Barcelona. That is all. Essentially 5 metropolitan areas in 3 countries are guaranteed representation. Basically a plastic tournament for plastic fans lacking any sort of drama, emotion or soul. Sounds like a disaster to me. |

The fact is Epstein was NOT private about it! He arranged orgies, frequently featuring underage girls, for the rich and famous, attended by politicians, Billionaires and royalty from all over the world. It was well known to the authorities, but he was considered untouchable because of his connections. The private island where he lived was widely known as “Orgy island” and “Pedo Island” by those living nearby for decades. His private jet was known as “the Lolita express” by all and sundry. I believe the prosecutor in charge of his first trial, was told by his superiors to drop the case as he was a “person of importance” to the US government, and he ended up getting a scandalously (and suspiciously) lenient sentence. He knew too much about too many powerful people to stay alive when convicted second time around. [Post edited 17 Nov 2019 22:23]

Even weirder to call the women’s team “Welsh” Fire, when they are playing all their games In Bristol and Somerset. |

France implode again! Imagine being their coach. Well done Wales. Not a great performance really, but in knockout rugby, who cares! |
