Tbh, at risk of being labeled as lacking ambition, I agree with you Colin. Whilst it does irk me to see the likes of Brentford and Fulham up there with that other lot, I feel that you sell your club’s soul chasing the Premier League “dream”. The thought of being in PL being the cannon fodder for the “big” teams, have decisions go against us on a regular basis, not to mention VAR all in the hope that we don’t get relegated from the “best league” in the world that we have no chance of winning. And if were possible (!) we’d have even less interest in the cups to stay in the league. Whilst things aren’t exactly equal in the Championship, it’s far more competitive, bottom can beat top on any given day and there is the sliver of a chance that we might do ok in it. At risk of sounding like Kevin and Perry when being asked why they were adopting fake Mancunian accents, the Championship feels “more real”!! |

I definitely think he has the skill and ability. The question is how long it will take him to adapt to the rigours of the Championship given his injuries. As a rule, I think it takes a season or so for new players either coming up from a lower division, or a foreign league, to properly adjust before they properly get to grips with the pace/physicality etc. That’s assuming they can make the step up. Take Madsen and to a lesser extent Saito. Yes they have different players around them now and that obviously makes a difference, but they are better now for having played a significant number of games in this league. Dembele will get there, but needs more games. Of course there are exceptions - Kone seems to be taking to the Championship like a duck to water, but that’s why he’s an exception. |

Great to see Andy Sinton back. Hope he’s taking it steady. |

Cheers Brian. A lot of good points for me to mull over - I guess your last point summed it all up!! |

Def agree with you Brian on Walsh getting the benefit of a year in League 1 to develop his skills and confidence, something that as you say won’t happen in a hurry behind this unsettled defence. I would have said Nardi as No 1 because of Walsh simply not being ready yet. But I’m intrigued by your thinking - what is it about Nardi that makes him unsuited for the Championship? Is it because he needs to be more commanding of his area, and more committed? (Might have answered my own question there!) Any thoughts as to who might fit the bill? Didn’t we have some Brazilian keeper (not Cesar!!) in the development squad who was supposed to be the next big thing? |

Bl**dy hell, that would be some flight of fancy!! |

I shall be doing that too!! I’m so happy!! (C) K. Saito. I know the start of the season on the pitch has fallen way short of all expectation and certainly had his signing been announced before the likes of Hayden and RND, questions would have been asked. But Hayden and RND have signed, along with the likes of Poku, Mbengue and Kone. In getting Saito we’ve got a decent, popular and enthusiastic player who is going to provide some much needed positivity in light of recent results and performances. Just need to translate this on to the pitch….!! Gambatte Kōki-kun!! |

I don’t see this as “winning” or “losing” the transfer window. How can you possibly say one way or the other until all the players coming in have settled in and a good few matches have been played. All we can comment on is whether or not we have identified weaknesses and have we done anything to address them. I think we’ve done that, but as always, it’s work in progress. The players we’ve brought in are the type that many of us, myself included, have been crying out for for ages. So IMO, it has been a positive window so far. On the pitch is the next stage, and of course the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and to me that’s a separate discussion. But I guess the OP was trying to gauge the positivity around our signings so far. I like what we’ve done so far in terms of signing the players. Now we need to turn that positivity into performance on the pitch. And we have a way and a half to go. |

Just to comment on this summer’s business, fwiw, I think that we’ve actually made some really good signings and with the return of Hayden, I would venture to say that it has been really positive. If RND does come in on loan, then we will have addressed pretty much every area. Saito would be the cherry on top. It’s what we’re doing with them that is my biggest question. Fitness, strategy, the basics. Walsh instead of Nardi etc. playing players out of position. What is going on?!? I’m no Nourry apologist, imo he has way too much interference on the day to day running of things. Signings, generally good, implementation not there yet by any means. Let’s see what joy Charlton brings. |

Sounds similar to what it was like with Flabio picking the team before the actual managers were allowed to do their job. Ffs. |

Another great preview. As I was reading it, I was just thinking that with all the signings we’ve made so far, how I longed for the hard b@st@rd signings that Warnock made that formed the spine of his Championship winning side. Kenny, Hill and Derry (& Helgusson although I don’t think he was a Warnock signing) was an absolutely no-nonsense spine of a team from which you could hang the likes of Taraabt to work his magic. And look what happened. A hard b@st@rd spine is what we’re crying out for. We’ve got the ornaments, we just need a bl**dy tree!! (Although I must confess, at the time, I was really skeptical of the signings of Kenny, Hill and Derry! I thought Warnock had just brought in his mates from years gone by for a final pay-off, and apart from maybe Kenny, were cloggers who were past it!! What the hell do I know?!?!) |

Love it!! The commentator’s chuckle at the end when he said “But it won’t count!” amused me!! Probably mentioned elsewhere, but that little touch Saito took to nudge the ball ever so slightly away from their keeper to get a better angle for his goal was simply genius!! Split second thinking and perfect execution!! |

Watford 😂, do me a favour. More like a underwhelming third round draw at best. Quick google search reveals they have won NOTHING of note. They are actually a small town near Luton, with half the population. Even Luton have won more than them! |
