I'm getting the LF comparisons, albeit premature and only a nascent championship career to boot, but can he actually head the ball in the manner that LF did in the premier league? Genuine question, as I haven't seen it happen yet, but like many, I like what I have seen thus far. [Post edited 17 Sep 15:34]

The way that some on here have already consigned, disgracefully in my view, the likes of Field to the knacker's yard, you would have thought that we've beaten some of the best teams in this division. We've only won two games against newly-promoted teams, both welcome victories, yet we were hardly convincing in either game. Yes we won, but on occasions we were porous in defence and midfield. If we fail to address those frailties, we won't be so fortunate going forward against more clinical opposition. Field and others are still an integral part of this squad and shouldn't be dismissed as surplus to requirements on account of victories against two teams promoted from division one. He divides opinion, but should never have been sacked in the first place. Especially being replaced by a coach whose "achievement" last season was to retain Hull's league status by virtue of a negative goal difference being better than Luton's. [Post edited 15 Sep 13:06]

It'll be well before October. The manner in which that second Ipswich goal was conceded, suggests that the current coach's tenure is drawing to a close. That was appalling. [Post edited 12 Sep 21:17]

Regardless of whether Smyth plays or not, I would not start with Dembele. I have stuck up for him previously, but he isn't willing to do his defensive duties diligently. In contrast, Kolli came on against Charlton and did fulfil his defensive duties, and some. Away from home it has to be Kolli and Saito, assuming Smyth is injured. |

I make that about 7 syllables - surname! Every team is capable of beating the opponent that they will be facing this weekend. However, I'm going for Melbourne, Penrith, Roosters including Mr 7 syllables and Canberra. Interesting to note that the Bulldogs have Sexton on the bench at Mahoney's expense!. Personally felt that Sexton was treated harshly and shouldn't have been dropped for Galvin. Even more amazed that there were no NRL sides interested in his services for next season, especially a number outside of the top 8. He will definitely improve les Catalans next season. The lad is only 24 years old for christ's sake and hasn't done much wrong in my view. [Post edited 12 Sep 9:46]

It'a an absolute nonsense and rewards mediocrity. 46 games in a season provides more than enough opportunities to determine the best performing teams in the league that are deserving of immediate promotion. In the last 5 seasons, Luton and Brentford have managed to finish third after 46 games. Ipswich finished second after having been promoted from league one the season prior. So it isn't impossible to finish in the top three. [Post edited 11 Sep 22:38]

Oh, Ravi Bopara! Oh Ravi Bopara! It would have been an injustice not to acknowledge the incredible innings from oh, Ravi Bopara!, to get minnows and huge underdogs, Northamptonshire over the line against the mighty, monied Surrey. A team that can call in top shelf, T20 great, Adam Zampa for a few games, because they can, and wanted him back alongside Mitch Santner for Thursday's game, because they can. It's not as if their non-playing squad for that game wasn't replete with talent already: Topley, Sibley, Worrall. Make no mistake, this was the tournament Surrey wanted to win above any other this season. However, they reckoned without 40-year old Ravi Bopara. Onto year 23 without winning the domestic T20. Oh, Ravi Bopara! You always had it and have clearly still got it. Take a bow and very well done. [Post edited 6 Sep 8:05]

Pretty clear cut to me especially after Saturday: Mbengue. For mine, he was caught out of position too often, should have been sent off, could have conceded a penalty if the Charlton player went down, not aerially-dominant, general loose cannon. At this stage, he's not first-choice at championship level. Even if the Edwards move were not to materialise, I believe that we will need to change the centre-half pairing for Wrexham, as I fear Kieffer Moore would monster that pairing, if left unchanged. |

Indeed. For a player who hasn't played a competitive game since April. I agree with the general consensus; he's likeable but the fact is that it's unlikely that he'll be ready to play/contribute in any great way for a good while yet, due to his inactivity since April. As for referencing his poor, my view, stats: goals to games (over 40 games last season), and blaming that on the forwards, it didn't prevent Chair from contributing 6 assists and 2 goals in just 28 games or Kolli contributing 3 assists and 5 goals in a mere 21 games. He has to do better. [Post edited 26 Aug 12:08]

Admittedly so, but you're also being disrespectful to our next opponent: Charlton, who look well organised and unlike us, appear to be in peak physical condition to coincide with the start of the season and as such, acquitted themselves well against Leicester today. They won't flag, physically, next week and have added some championship-experienced pros alongside some potentially good players from league one, with a coach who knows how to navigate this division: both lower and upper reaches of the table. That's what some on here want, so we'll see how we fare in his absence. How many will be as brave as he always is to find space and always show for the ball, even coming deep to achieve that and ensure that we have some semblance of link-up play and meaningful possession. I sincerely hope that he isn't being sold. [Post edited 23 Aug 13:59]

I agree with you. A better placed cross into the danger area for an onrushing forward, you couldn't deliver. I sincerely hope that the lack of anticipation from Kone, in that instance, isn't a portent for similar in the future. |

Yep. However, to the usual refrain " he's too old and we don't want any of that". Even though he's physically strong, rarely injured, has a decent champioship record alongside the requisite chamionship experience". Oh, and he scored 11 premier league goals, all for £500k. No, let's bring in the next waif from the Antipodes or reportedly spend anything from £3million and upwards on Saito instead. Saito, I believe, hasn't played any competitive football to date. Bang on re: Saito and if true, that money would be better utilised in a more pressing position by way of need, such as CM. Yet Kolli, physical specimen compared to Saito, as well as contributing 5 goals and 2 assists in just 21 games, is deemed as not being good enough and should be loaned out. I'm intrigued to see if either Kone or Burrell can match those numbers. In previous years, I would agree with loaning out Kolli, but not now with the paucity of quality in our current squad. He's light years ahead of the likes of Bennie and the other cohorts of similar age. £3 to £5 million for Saito, who I believe hasn't played a competitive game this season, beggars belief. Beyond Kelman, my biggest concern is by the time we meet Charlton, they could be 6 points ahead of us. Their beating Leicester at the Valley isn't inconceivable. They're a fit side, as evidenced by their late winner against Watford, have brought in some championship-savvy players alongside a manager who is well versed to this league. |

Yep, that appears to be the sum total of the fabled project. We don't do cups as its beneath a club of our standing. Yet at every turn, the same people that have decided to bin any chance of a cup run and the additional revenue that it could generate, are the ones who constantly go on about our financial plight. Trust the project. [Post edited 18 Aug 8:14]

Sincerely hope not. He played a fair chunk of last week's game in the left centre-back role and I can't recall him using his left foot once. Preston hardly pressed us so he had more time, can't see Watford affording us the same time today. |
