Having succeeded to a point in a competitive sport, McNulty rightly commented in a post match interview after the mid week 4-0 win about Momentum. In any high level sports or otherwise environment, Momentum is absolutely vital.
You can`t be worrying about "what`s coming down the road", you try even harder to press home the advantage you have created, to keep the momentum going whilst at the same time deflating your rival competition and keeping them at bay.
If something goes wrong or badly awry outside of your control (which can and does happen), you can then hold your head up and state "at least we tried". What you don`t do is to give any advantage back to the rivals unnecessarily. Most knowledgable Dale fans will accept that, instead of overthinking or going back on your principles. The fans are not stupid !
This then places pressure back on yourselves, that didn`t need to be created in the first place.
I agree with the comments of the majority of the posts, that McNulty should have either made 3/4 changes from Wednesday`s winning team OR if the "First 11" were winning comfortably, then to make changes from the bench as the management team sees fit !
