The reason he was put on gardening leave is only apparently because he spoke to WBA. The actual reason is not known outside of the club. My view is that he did a great job in his first season and a good job with a much-changed squad in his second. Above all he came across as a likeable person and galvanised the dressing room. Whatever happened behind the scenes, I wish him well and look forward to the club taking the good work he did and progressing even more. |

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it turned out that this was Steve Cook's suggestion in the first place. Jimmy will make a great captain and we still have enough other leaders on the pitch (or bench) |

It certainly was refreshing to hear and interview that wasn't created in a sterile lab and written by media "experts". As with so many others, I would love to see him succeed. Maybe, the manager needs to pick and choose the games he plays in to start with. He may never be the last man standing in the "battle at the new den" but if he can be the conductor in chief when we dismantle a poor Derby side then that would go some way towards repaying the faith in him. In the meantime, if he can turn some of that honesty into being better at the parts of his job that he struggles with then there is definitely a scenario where his signing becomes a positive. |

To me Celar looks a good finisher but the question mark is what he gives to the team when he isn't scoring. If he snaffles twenty goals in the season then his all round game becomes irrelevant but if he only gets 7 or 8 goals then him being a passenger is a problem. Surely, he knows that too and would want to develop his all round game? The subject of my "man crush" Michi Frey is a great example. I love what he brings to the team even if he doesn't score. I'd imagine most defenders would prefer to play against Celar over Frey ... Even if Celar scored more often. |

Mark Hately ... Oops sorry wrong thread! Ray Wilkins was the ultimate one that I saw. Am I misremembering or were there loads of "Indian summer" midfielders around at that time - Hoddle, Hazard and Wilkins? |

Loved Steve Palmer ... I swear that a Steve Palmer "trap of the ball" used to send it 30 yards up the field. |

Keepers always have been a breed all of their own 😊 In any other position, having a good up and coming player challenging the first choice would be great. Kieran Morgan starting a few games this season and coming off the bench for a few more would be a great way to continue his development without the added pressure of being first choice Imagine a 65th minute substitution where Walsh comes on for Nardi to give him some experience. It would seem insane. Or a scenario where Nardi is rested for the third game in a three game week. It's a shame we can't do things a little differently and tell Nardi that he's only likely to start around 30 or so games this season so we can have a longer look at Joe Walsh. Maybe they have tried that and he's said no but we'll never know. If some sort of phased hand over of the gloves is not possible then selling Nardi to give the nod to Walsh seems risky but, I think, ultimately the right decision. It also suggests that the club is committed to the future success of the club over eeking out every single possible point in the current season |

Maybe it is a lot of posts but people do strange things. If I found someone's posts boring then the last thing I would want to do is to read through all their historical posts, study and analyse them but each to their own 😉 |

I don't care whether he takes credit or not for appointing Marti. I'm simply pointing out that your claim that Nourry lied about being involved in Marti's appointment appears shaky at best given that the people who were actually involved in the appointment say that he was. Obviously, you care a lot 😉 As with all your other "red flags", these are based on the negative inferences you have attributed without any credence. [Post edited 9 Jul 18:46]

I didn't say he identified Marti, I said Lee Hoos said that. If you are asking how that can be possible then there was a shortlist that included Marti (and others). Someone looked at that list and says the number one person to pick from that list is Marti then they've identified him as the number on target. The point I made was that one of the people involved in recruiting Marti said he was instrumental in identifying and recruiting Marti and I give his view more credence than your baseless inference that Nourry lied about his involvement. That there was rumour they intended to sack Marti is very different from it being a fact that they intended to sack Marti. If Marti had been sacked in October, is that an example of acting in a timely manner? Giving Marti time as much time as we did was the right decision and giving Ben Williams as much time as we did was the wrong decision (in my opinion). Doing things quickly is not always the best thing to do so having someone who doesn't react too quickly can be beneficial (as it was in not sacking Marti) or not beneficial (as it was in not rectifying the Ben Williams situation). If you are expecting anyone to always make the right decision then you will end up disappointed. |

Again I agree and maybe it's just the 10 year timescale that seemed excessive. If our long term goals are a few bullet points then I'd be happy with that and these fan forums could be a way to let us know what is on the cards in the next year. Obviously, some things would be better not being in the public domain but I'm sure there would be some information that could be shared. Although, I still think there would be a big gap between what we want to hear and what is available to be shared. |

So you think Nourry was involved in appointing Marti? So what he said is not a lie? Did anyone say that they wanted to sack Marti in October? So your issue with Ben Williams coming back was that it took longer than you wanted rather than him being employed because he is Nourry's mate? There is a difference between being data-led and basing every decision only on statistics. As I said before the way we infer the intentions of Nourry is based on our perspective of how things are going. That doesn't mean our inferences are right or wrong but they are still just inferences. |

I'm not disputing that we were interested in Marti before Nourry arrived but if the CEO at the time of Marti's appointment described Nourry as being influential in his identification and appointment then I'm more inclined to believe him than your inference that any involvement is a lie. Let me assume that our good injury record the season before was down to Ben Williams (at least in some part). Given the choice between losing him completely and have him continue on a part-time remote basis then I'd say that the second option was in the interest of the club. Even though it patently didn't work out that way. Being wrong is not the same thing as being disingenuous. Maybe we haven't heard about Colback or Fox because discussions are still on going so there is nothing to report yet. There are always different ways to look at things. I think the club is improving so I see positive intentions whereas you infer his actions as being the result of negative intentions. |

I'd love to hear all that too but I suspect that there would be a huge gap between what the goals are and the level of detail we all want to hear. Is there any owner of any football club who can say hand on heart they will still be there in ten years time? I doubt it. From what I've read the "goals" seem (sorry to use that word again 😉) as specific as they can be. Develop younger players for future profit, stay financially stable etc etc. It is the baby steps towards those goals that are more important to me (and just me, everyone is different). We have a younger squad with more potential "sell on" value We are investing more in the next generation of players We are making moves to increasing the stadium size We are investing more in the coaching structure of the club We are not lurching from one style to another when we change our manager every few months Of course there's plenty of things that could still be done better but my view is that, in general, things are heading in the right direction but it will take time. |

Your "red flags" only appear to be red flags if your interpretation of what happened is correct. Did Nourry claim to be involved in identifying and signing Marti? Yes he did. Something that is backed up by the CEO at the time. Who do you think is more informed about his involvement in signing him. Is it you or the man who worked on the signing day to day? Did he allow Ben Williams to continue his involvement with the club remotely? Yes he did. Did he do that because Ben Williams is his friend as you speculate or did he feel (wrongly) that the club would continue to benefit from having him involved even if he wasn't in situ? We don't know but you you insinuate that your speculation is fact. Is there less communication than before? Yes there is. Nourry has said, for example, that he believes not revealing contract details gives a competitive edge. He may be wrong or he may be right. You interpret that as him trying to hide his "lies". Your "red flags" are only red if you believe your interpretations which are not facts just unfounded opinions. |

I agree with this. Things seem to be changing and it does look like we have finally realised that there is more to changing things than saying "we have a four year plan". Not everything is perfect but I feel we will see the benefits but maybe not for a couple of years. I feel like the club is a lot less "knee jerk" than it was and the number of signings going into the development squad is a real positive. Hopefully, a few of them will kick-on in the next couple of years! |

I think they are right not to sell anyone just yet. I think the "sell someone every season" aim should begin after this coming season. I would think you want players to at least have had two full seasons before selling them to get a decent amount for them. Selling someone who has had half a season bedding in then half a season looking good would probably end up with a profit but not enough of a profit. Hopefully, Varane has a barn storming season for us then we look at getting a really good amount for him. I'd say the same is true for Liam Morrison and Morgan too. |

My mistake ... I shouldn't have read so much into the club saying he was instrumental in the identification and recruitment of Marti 😊 |

I was sure I'd read that from when he was appointed and it says he was involved in the identification and recruitment of Marti which obvs doesn't necessarily mean he was the only person responsible in identifying him but he was part of it 😊 [Post edited 8 Jul 9:46]

That sounds about right. Wasn't he here as a consultant at the time Marti was identified as a managerial target? |
