I'm not ready to retire yet, but did leave my higher paid job 5 years ago with a view to going part-time (though I have been full-time the last 18 months, and now going back part-time, so back in the same boat). Anyway, I re-trained as a gardener and became self-employed, did some volunteering in gardens to get experience, did some courses, got some clients and could select my hours (easier if you don't have the pressue of having to fill the whole week, and easier to reschedule etc). I'm not saying do this, but I wonder if there is something you have always wanted to do, or somewhere you have always wanted to work, where you could volunteer and or do some courses to retrain to get into them? Sometimes just doing a course, or volunteering, opens your eyes or people suggest other things, you make contacts etc. Or do you have a hobby you could turn into a job, or a skill you could teach people for money? |
 | Forum Thread | Supporter advisory board confirmed at 20:49 16 Sep 2025
This just oppoed up on my feed, but looks like it was confirmrd a few hours ago. https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2025/september/16/qpr-supporter-advisory-board-confir Will be interestiing to see how this works in practice and what, if anything, comes of it. The last place is for 'Fan Media' not sure if that means LFW and others meet and get a representative that rotates or relays points at meetings. Many many years ago I sat on one of these with England fans (in a work capacity) and some useful stuff came out of them meetings, that got implemented abnd or fed back. Hopefully that can happen here. |

Good thread - I've resigned a few weeks ago and wanting to go part-time as well. I'm a gardener so that is my default option but wondering about other options so interested also to see what comes up here. I just looked up that Blue Badge training - if I found the right one it's £10k now, interesting job though. |

That was my recollection as well, and that it happened at most grounds as well. Not really sure when / why it stopped. edit I'm talking mid-80s early 90s here. [Post edited 16 Sep 10:56]

Discussions about Nourry have become LFW's equivalent of Brexit |

Thanks, you are right. I remember the chants towards him,.followed by the 3 goals. I was sure it was Ian Wright though, my mind is playing tricks on me. |

Not quite a goal, but I remember Ian Wright being applauded off after scoring a hatrick against us for Burnley I think. I've definitely applauded quality opposition goals before, but can't remember any at the moment. |
 | Forum Reply | An exciting group of players at 18:09 14 Sep 2025
I don't disagree, and Wrexham's defending was everything you could ask for at times, I'm not saying we are getting promoted, it's just nice to have an exciting lof of players, and as others have said what looks like a great team spirit, especially after what happened a few weeks ago. We just seem to have a number of players you look forward to seeing on the pitch, and still to develop for quite a few. |
 | Forum Thread | An exciting group of players at 09:33 14 Sep 2025
We all know we've only won 2 games, against promotoed sides, but we have as eciting a group oif players I remember for a long time. It remids me of many many moons ago when we would sign lower league and non league players and you got the unknown quantity and then so much promise, and eventually the realisation of how good a player you had. |

I think goalies get more tactically blocked off now than they use to be, so it's much riskier coming for some balls, and I guess 'mistakes' are highlighted so much now it probably makes some keepers more nervous when you think the defender has a good chance of getting there. |

Personally I'm disappointed we didn't finish 16th in the table. |

It would be interesting to se a comparison from teams in say the 1980s., 90s and so on. I guess with the advent of DOF, analytics for scouting and more definied playing styles for a longer period of time, managers are viewed as less important than they once were and more easily replaced by someone with a similar philosophy. I guess also the pressure for success (whatever that is....) is much more intense now. |
 | Forum Reply | Quick question for any HR experts at 20:02 9 Sep 2025
Thanks everyone - it's not going to be much money - effectively 7 weeks of a small pay rise so would probably cost more to fight it really. I understand for bonuses etc you have to be there, just wasn't sure as they said effectively should have been on X salary for those 7 weeks so slightly different. I probably should have resigned two weeks later to still be on the September payroll to see if that would have made a difference - I guess in theory not. |
 | Forum Thread | Quick question for any HR experts at 15:56 9 Sep 2025
My old company did a benchmarking review and the result was everyone in my team would get a small payrise. They sent an email in August, whilst I was still employed there (to all staff), saying this would be backdated to July and would be applied to the September payrol. I left at the end of the 3rd week of August (resigned not fired etc, served my notice). They've said I am not entitled to it now as I have left. Is this correct or just a pain for them as they have already issued my P45 and would have to do it again? It's not going to be a huge sum but wondering what is actually correct here? //edited to add I know this won't consitutue any binding advice etc, and I'd need to seek some help and advice directly before I decided to pursue anything. I never used to like it, but really enjoy it now I understand it a bit better. Watching a Superbowl doesn't do much for Monday morning working though.... I know Sky are not that popular here, but the guy who presents the Sky coverage is amazing - so many updates, so much knowledge, really seemless coverage - what a presenter. When you compare him to some of the 'experts' like Alan Shearer who commentate or analyse football it's night and day. Has anyone been to see a game in London, or the US? |

I think if you look at the second goal, they are backing off and backing off and so he has time to shoot, I just don't think that happens as much in the Championship. Lots of players can strike it really well under no real pressue, and he can, but the question is how many shots can you get off in a game, and how good will they be. For me, that was one of his biggest issues. Hopefully he will be in a league where he gets that space, in a system that helps him also. If so, with any luck, he has a great season with great numbers and moves on succesfully. |
