Below are all of the category 1 teams that are involved. I think it's important not to downplay the achievement as all of these teams will have better resources and it's QPR's goal to achieve this status in the next few years.

Ultimately as this cup is optional it looks like some of the big boys have dropped out as they don't fancy their pampered players rocking up at the likes of category 4 Bromley which is a shame. This would probably mirror their sentiment if the EFL cup was optional for the seniors

Category 1
Blackburn Rovers
Brighton & Hove Albion
Chelsea
Derby County
Everton
Leeds United
Leicester City
Norwich City
Nottingham Forest
Reading
Southampton
Sunderland
West Bromwich Albion
Wolverhampton Wanderers

Nourry hate on this forum aside, how would he not be responsible for the sudden improvement of the academy? He's cleared out the deadwood implementing a focus on using 16-18 year olds in the under 21 team to help further development. The previous regime still had 25 year old Charlie Owens rocking up for the team week in, week out. I also believe a majority of that squad has been signed since he's arrived. I think this is one of the areas you can give him some flowers

Also interesting to see Darnell Furlong in attendance. I'm sure to support his dad but you never know

Supporting QPR
at 08:41 1 May 2025

It's easy to feel all doom and gloom at the moment but a few things recently that have kept me positive...

I couldn't recommend enough to listen to Ilias Chair's conversation on the W12 Podcast. He discusses his love for the club in detail, how much he feels he owes us and how hopeful he is about our future. It's very encouraging to hear and a reminder that there are players in this club that care. Future captain talk.

Secondly and following last night, it's been great following our development squad knocking out 3 category 1 academy teams on the bounce to reach our first final at under 21 level. Being at HQ last night I left really feeling some pride. We have some great talents coming through with the likes of Murphy, Esquerdinha, Tuck, Sutton that I can't wait to get chances in the first team. I'd definitely recommend to support the boys in the final, this is what it's all about

Following that is the existing young talents in the first team. Varane, Dembele, Morrison. 2 players coming back that you can argue should have been in the League 1 TOTS in Kelman and Cooper. I'm looking forward to seeing all of these players continue to grow next year. This also extends to the fanbase and seeing the youth turnout continue to grow giving the crowd energy and life, the biggest attendances in 10 years, we're certainly not dying out.

So whilst the summer break is welcomed, I'm holding onto all of this and will be there again August home and away. You R's

3 including youth teams but the point remains the same. He has addressed this without even being questioned, absolutely on his own accord. I think that says a lot

He talked about how his 3rd seasons are always very good and that his intention is to keep working at the club, how clear does he have to be?

Words from Marti:

"I know there’s been lots of speculation during the week but the reality is I’m the coach under contract, I’m building for the future of the club and my intention is to keep working for the club"

To think that was almost entirely spent on Championship talent also...

Ipswich's £150m incomings in the summer may slightly disagree

Edwards just makes it look Eze

I wholeheartedly agree that we can be more opportunistic with talent in the EFL, especially locally. Even going to youth level, take Michael Olise, born and raised in White City, playing for Hayes and Yeading before bouncing around youth teams. I hope we're in a better position now to start getting these guys signed up.

I get the sentiment but

"Where are we signing players from? Brest."

Seems a bit misleading when this signing was based off a great season in the EFL with Blackpool, as was Morrison with Wigan, Vale with Bristol R.

We should be looking in the EFL for talent and I hope we continue doing so but I like that we don't limit ourselves to just these leagues. It's very telling when our POTS contenders include Varane, Saito and Nardi last playing in Spain, Netherlands and Belgium respectively.

Varane 36/42 games played, what is the cut off point for contention do you think?

Breaking down players limitations and then saying Field for POTS, might be some irony there

I'd go for Dunne with it not being that close. Stats and eye test, the most involved player in our defense, buildup and attack this year

Nardi, Saito and Varane honorable mentions

Really? In a team completely devoid of attacking output we're now happy with Chair being injured. Below are goals and assists in 2025 (min 2). I really don't think it's as great news as you're suggesting

Chair 7
Frey 4
Paal 3
Dunne 2
Saito 2
Morgan 2

As always seems to be the way with our fans and our best creative attacking players

It's telling that the fans of any team playing us will always talk about Chair before anyone else

Time to play our own
at 14:52 3 Mar 2025

I understand your hypothetical but just wanted to add context for Morrison's situation with injuries

I feel that Marti's outlook is to field the best team possible and will not be dictated by any off the field situation (contracts, loan). Hence last year Willock was still playing, Hayden is getting minutes over Dixon-Bonner etc.

Ultimately his position is very competitive with Edwards, Cook, Fox and JCS when fit. With this and the fact they are being careful with his minutes it is difficult right now.

I'm sure when the time comes he will have a starting berth. JCS - Morrison from next season

Had to make sure this wasn't a CSKA Moscow forum with how much pro-Russia slop is in this latter pages of this thread. I don't think history will react to those viewpoints so nicely
