Agree with this. In a world where life is becoming less "real" and authentic, people are craving real and authentic things. Like your vinyl example, books are the same, for many. See the massive YouTube views people get by just filming their lives living in a house in the forests of northern Sweden. Most viewers probably watching from their city flats. If you think about it, going to QPR is no different to watching them in the 1990s. The stadium is pretty much exactly the same. I personally absolutely love it. When a goal goes in is there much in life that makes you feel more alive and in the moment than that? One of the few things left that's not sanitised. Heard a West Ham fan the other day absolutely slating the London stadium (the walk there through Westfield, the distance from the pitch, the lack of atmosphere). Think what West Ham have lost by leaving Upton Park. Not to say a new ground can't be done well, like Everton's. |

I know what you mean, obviously nasty and unacceptable behaviour. Although, I have thought with Suarez, depends which way you look at it. Always gave 100%, scored amazing goals, was committed and unplayable. That in itself shows some sort of character and conscience to do well and earn his money. At the time he was at Liverpool we had complete wasters here to pick up vast amounts of money and put no effort in, showing serious flaws in character. I know what type I'd rather have at QPR, given the choice. |

East Of Eden is brilliant. That's partly inspired me to buy Lonesome Doves, if you haven't read that. That's my next one. Cheers. |

You won't regret reading the Zweig! |

Hi Hubble, Thanks for your reply and recommendations. The Japan series sounds great. Another coincidence because the other brilliant book I read this year was 1000 Autumns Of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. That's set in Japan at exactly the same period and for the same reasons. That Zweig book was absolutely brilliant. I really like the era and setting too, having recently been to Vienna. I'm sure we've all had our QPR players over the years that we back because of pity and hope that they'll come good. In fact, probably most of them! I can recommend so many books on the Vietnam war that I've read over the years, random I know. Have a good one. |

What a coincidence, I just bought Lonesome Dove and will take it on holiday with me. Some great books I've read recently: Philip Roth, Human Stain and also American Pastoral. Stefan Zweig: Beware Of Pity Kundera: Unbearable Lightness of Being |

Best and most poetic season out there. A time to listen to April Come She Will by S&G. |

QPR fan Mark Devlin is CEO there (everyone probably knows that anyway, but I didn't until yesterday). |

Were there always this many injuries at the beginning of a season? When I was a kid in the Wegerle / Sinton days the opening day always seemed a time when every player was guaranteed to be available. |

Some people meaning "you have no idea". You're right, I don't. But he does look shit, you got to admit. Of course that doesn't mean he IS shit. Hope to be proved wrong. |

Bumped into Lucas quite a few times and can say he was genuinely a really good bloke. Always cycling his daughter to school with her in the child seat at the front (as in, not in a big Range Rover). Always up for a chat, with politeness and a smile. He is really gutted to leave. Sad his injury record and fitness meant he wasn't up to it enough to get another contract. |

It was signed yesterday. I reckon maybe Wilder going did have something to do with it. Bit of a coincidence if not. Great news though. |

We've just had a 2 week break and now another week's break to the next match. Do players these days really play too much or is it that they don't play enough? I often think the games are anticipated for a week, the players rotated and given a half here and there, then suddenly the game is over and no one really got into their stride, or can build momentum. Going back to Pat Nevin's book, he thinks the same. He had no problem playing 2 games in 2 days. |

If Derby win then they go 4 behind us and then Cardiff move into the bottom 3, and they are 5 points behind us. |

Yes, it definitely led to a more civilised reaction. What a tough job that is though. There's not many jobs we do with such pressure and abuse to go with it. She stuck to her decision and it was the right one. I also hold the same respect for linesman, and as you say they probably get even more abuse because anything goes with them. |
