I was pleasantly surprised after reading the negative vibes from SU sources. A very competent and reassuring performance. If he can sustain and build on that I will be very satisfied. |

I was in the School End and the shot was taken right in front of me. Your take is exactly what I thought at the time. A bit of a freak goal, that makes the keeper look bad - but is not really his fault. Not that it stopped a bloke behind me giving him personal pelters for the remainder of the game - which I am certain Walsh could hear. Just what a young keeper needs as he tries to rebuild confidence. |

We are of the same mind and maybe should have been a bit clearer. I don't want to avoid playing it out from the back at any cost. It's a useful option at times and against certain opponents. What bewilders me is that the story of the last 50 games is the cost of primarily playing it out from the back is losing! Not only do we do it in a slow and apprehensive way, it doesn't work as a lead strategy. Now we have trumpeted our 'game model' to the world and its uncle, everyone expects it and knows how to counter it. We are too late jumping on a bandwagon that others are now jumping off. After 45 minutes against Preston, I foolishly allowed my hope to burn brightly. We looked energetic, were getting the ball forward quickly, Madsen looked like the player he was at the end of last season. Poku looked really good and "We've finally cracked it" was the thought that entered my mind. That 45 minutes seems a long time ago now. As Norf mentioned, so many of the same, seemingly obvious problems are hobbling us once again. We have some very decent players in a fully fit team (a nice notion) but our game model has failed us consistently since the beginning of last season. I am pretty sure we would see something better if we let it go. To my mind, if there ever was a time to embrace building slowly from the back, it certainly isn't now. Teams have had a few seasons now to work out how to counteract it, whilst we are apparently still (painfully) learning how to do it. We are not going to surprise any decent teams playing that way; it is nerve-shredding for the players and supporters; and we don't have the right personnel. I sometimes feel like we build our philosophy from the Arsenal playbook. Wenger and Arteta both seemed determined to ignore the obvious flaws in midfield/strikers (respectively), despite everyone watching Arsenal saying the same thing. The only reason we are not in L1 is because we abandoned it for a substantial period last season. This is not rocket science. |

I am keeping my expectations very low. Reasons being: * None of the new signings are actually match fit, so we cannot expect too much from them * Varane, Dunne and Kone are still working their way back to match fitness * I suspect we will continue to deploy our 'game plan' which is now in its third iteration (and failed dismally in its first two forms) * I am unsure what the manager can do much differently if his hands are as tied as is rumoured. |

You are correct, sir. And there are 46 more to come next season ; ) |

It costs me around £100 to get to a home game. That certainty wasn't value for money today. But I did learn something. I learned what a team passing out from the back and knocking the ball around can look like in the Championship. Quick movement, fast progression of the ball, purposeful probing and switching and players making themselves available in the right places on the pitch. Unfortunately, ...it wasn't us. I'd like to think (in one way) that we were not trying, but my impression during the game was that Burnley was on another level. We looked shell-shocked, rather than on the beach. They are 44 points ahead of us today, and it looked like that. The parachute payment stuff has created such an imbalance that automatic promotion places now look out of reach for most clubs, including us. We looked very good against Leeds for 20 minutes, but they grew into the game and the disparity between the resources available to both teams became very apparent. I almost laughed at the quality of players they were able to bring on. This was a very sobering day for me, with two hours 'on me tod' getting home to get (non-clinically) depressed about it : ( |

He needs to be mentioned more. Such a stand-out player in that team. Such a shame about his injuries. Gave his signing-on fee to the club to help it in desperate times. Top player and good guy. |

Dave Thomas for me too. I used to play on the wing and roll down my socks just because of him. Was on holiday at my grandad's caravan in Pagham when I saw the newspaper. Left me absolutely gutted. I never imagined he would leave the hoops. Became one of those bitter 'growing up' moments. As an adult, the way we let Macca go was scandalous. Absolutely the wrong thing to do for a guy who had been so good for us and to us. Mammoth defender at the highest level. I hope we do something to put it right with his family (if we haven't already) because he was truly top class. [Post edited 18 Apr 16:11]

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing this afternoon. Edwards leaves it all out there on the pitch and was throwing himself into tackle right until the end. The effort and commitment to getting a result is admirable for any player, let alone a loanee. Superb effort. |

Spot on. And if Jimmy is off too, that is going to be a very large hole - and incredibly hard to fill. If there is any chance of signing Edwards, we should dive right in. One of the best defenders I have seen here in a long time. |

I think Dickie had to move. His form and confidence had cratered and he looked lost. Elements of the crowd were on his back and I thought he needed a restart elsewhere. I'm actually pleased he has been doing well. My son's mate is a City fan and came with us yesterday. He really rates Dickie. Sincs, unfortunately, in his opinion, does not seem to have developed much beyond what we saw. I didn't feel inclined to boo him though. Wells wanted to stay with us. His club wanted the fee, so off to City he went. |

The first twenty minutes were scintillating. Absolutely cracking football and we could have been 3-0 up. So encouraging to see what we are capable of. Shame they scored against the run of play, as it took the wind out of our sails. Across the whole game I thought Edwards was just brilliant - both in defence and midfield. Covered so much ground and won the ball so often. Dunne, Ashby, and Morrison were also really strong. There were several occasions where last ditch headers, interceptions and tackles saved the day - and kept City from having any real chances. Proud of that performance as I had half-expected an 'after the Lord Mayor's show' disaster after the Oxford win. Credit to the players and the staff for getting up for the battle. |

My favourite player of all time. Used to roll down my socks and played on the wing for my primary school football team. Used to post on QPRNet.com as 'Dave Thomas' Socks' - hello to anyone who frequented that board. There's still something inside of me that despairs when wide men don't blast past the full back, rather than cut inside. Great player, lovely bloke and most certainly Forever R's! |

This sums up my observations about Varane perfectly. His first instinct seems to be to turn backwards, protect the ball and play safe. A quite sensible approach in some situations, but not every situation. Perhaps he needs express permission from the manager and coach to take a risk here and there. It accentuates our tendency to not progress the ball up the pitch with sufficient pace to stretch a defence. |

Since we began to pick up speed this season, I've been struck by just how many games can go either way. We've edged some we could have lost and tonight is an example of the cards falling the other way. Can't remember a season where there is so little between so many teams. |
 | Forum Reply | QPR v Fat Frank's Lady Godìva first eleven match thread at 23:11 11 Feb 2025
Gutted by that. Nothing really between the two teams. Draw would have been fair. Tonight I couldn't help but think how good we would be with a serious goal threat up front. We do a lot of good things now, but our 'top end' is limited by that lack of edge. Can't complain too much, given how far we have come...just wishful thinking about just how good we could be. |

Were they really all contact injuries earlier in the season? That was not my general impression before the club made that statement. It certainly hasn't been true since... |
