As I keep saying, Sport Republic are the owners and not the people who are actually making the decisions on things like ticket pricing etc. Berate them for appointing some clueless idiots in the ticketing department, but if you think that at any point someone rung up Dragan Solak and asked whether we should charge £10 or £15 for the Brighton friendly and that this was discussed at a Sport Republic board meeting then I have a surprise for you. |

That is where the way of bringing through players has changed over the past 10 years or so, as GRIM mentioned what is the point in having an academy, the answer is the point is diminishing, but you have to have one. More and more the promising players in the academy are getting poached at 16-17, we have just lost Harley Emsden James to Manchester United for £1 million plus a 20% sell on clause, in the past he would have signed a professional deal and if he had gone on to be good, pocketed a hefty transfer fee. Now that is all out the window, we have to look at bringing in players at 18-19 and making it work that way, yes thats seen a big turnover of players, but overall we are still making a big profit on the buying and then selling on of youngsters. In the past 4 seasons we have spent about £120 million on youngsters ranging from Dynel Simeu to Romeo Lavia and all in between. In the 3 seasons since we have sold those that came in in that period for about £170 million. There are also some players still on the books like Sam Edozie, Gavin Bazunu, Bella-Kotchap, Ronnie Edwards, Kayi-Sanda, Shea Charles and a few others whose values have held up and in some cases increased, possibly these named have a combined transfer value of ££55 million. So all in all the fans would see our buying of youngsters as a disaster, but the reality is that it has turned in a decent profit. Ok the likes of Sulemana, Mara, Salisu, Alcaraz came in for fees between £10 -22 million and could all be classed as failures, but we got back most of what we paid for them and each in their own way contributed something to the club The main issue has been the poor signings of players with so called experience in this period, money wasted on the likes of Onuachu, Caleta Car, Orsic etc. Even Romain Perraud, badly overpriced at £10 million and sold for £3 million.

Saints still second favourites behind Ipswich in all the promotion betting, to win it outright, to go be in the top 2, to be in the top 3 and to be promoted either way. Wrexham are around 9/10th in all the categories. I wonder how much this will all change in the next month or so as Wrexham buy players and the likes of Saints and Ipswich lose some |

To comply with the regulations the right one has to be android and the left IOS, the simple way of remembering what one to put in what sock is by the number of letters in the word right and left. Android like the word Right has more letter than IOS and the word left, this enables the modern day player to prepare before a game without the stress of worrying which sock each shin pad could go in |

It is the rules that you have to wear shin pads, so Dibling will be wearing them, they will just be so small that you wouldn't notice. Over the years shin pads have shrunk in size and also thickness due to new synthetic materials being thinner and stronger. I am not sure if there is a minimum size, but I have seen some of the smaller pads and they are probably about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long, about the width of a smartphone and half the length |

As I mentioned that has always been the Southampton way, the last 60 years is littered with youngsters and up and coming players we have signed but never made it. The modern game has changed, now Manchester City & Chelsea & others hoover up all the best youngsters, at age 14-16 and then again at 17-18 when first professional contracts are offered. Clubs like Saints cannot bring people through the youth ranks as before, as in the case with Chelsea with JJ Morgan & Tyler Dibling, they tap them up at 16 when they can leave a club for effectively nothing or a low development fee in come Chelsea. Than means that the focus is now no longer on the 14-16 age group, it is on the 18-20 group, buying the likes of Sanda & Quarshie for £400k is probably cheaper than bringing them through the youth ranks and a better bet as you get a more formed player with a better chance of succeeding. certainly better than spending a lot of money bringing them through and then see them poached at age 16 by the big clubs for peanuts. I wouldn't say they were not bothered with team building, they still do that, but they also look to bring in promising youngsters as well, yes for the resale value, thats always been the way at Saints. Ted Bates & Lawrie McMenemy did it a lot and it continued Look at this lot over the years see how many you can remember, all bought as promising and ones for the future and all didn't play many games for the club Derek Allen Antonio Almeida Ken Armstrong Frankie Bennett Eammon Collins Colin Cramb Tony Funnell Michael Hennigan Phil Kite Ally McLeod Scott Marshall Mike McCartney Scott McDonald Gary Monk Paul Moody Neil Moss Mick Pickering Graham Potter Dani Rodrigues Andy Rogers Trond Solvedt Christer Warren Russell Watkinson Peter Whiston Oshor Williams Mainly from the glory years era 1970-2000, these are just the ones that made an appearance for the club, along the way there were quite a few more who we signed but didn't get a game |
 | Forum Reply | DANNY INGS TO SIGN!!!!!!!!!! at 09:29 16 Jul 2025
Danny Ings has barely been injured since his first season at Saints, when he missed 12 games through injury in two separate spells, yet is always described as injury prone. In his two full seasons at the club he played in 67 of the 76 Premier League games he could have played. I would have Danny Ings back without a doubt, but as Ralph Hasenhuttl said at the time, "Players just don't want to be club legends anymore" When he left Saints in 2021 he chased money and in doing so effectively ended his chances of playing in the 2021 World Cup, he has done that since and is now doing it again. |

You are Wright, even Mark didn't have a ginger song to his name when he played for Saints, although there was a few Ginger wigs worn during the Gordon Strachan reign, shed loads at the last game of the season against Aston Villa I think and also during the FA Cup run of 2003 |

Seems that we may not have seen the last of Stuart Armstrong, he is being chased by Sheffield Wednesday who want him back |
 | Forum Reply | Southampton Defender Linked With Move To Championship Rivals at 14:43 14 Jul 2025
Sport Republic are leaving it to Johannes Spors & Will Still on who is staying and going, I suspect the idea is to get bodies off the books, there are a few players who there is little between them, so it is a case of getting rid of what we can and make sure we dont get stuck with a bloated squad again. |
 | Forum Reply | Who are the players that Will Still says want to leave? at 12:47 14 Jul 2025
Lose Bednarek, ABK, THB and we still have Jack Stephens, Nathan Wood, Ronnie Edwards all of whom are proven at Championship level, plus Joachim Kayi Sanda & Joshua Quarshie who could break through. Overall not including the likes of Zach Awe & Nico Lawrence, we still have a total of 13 defenders at the club at the moment |

I can never understand why he is allowed to have hair flying around like that, it could damage an opponents eyes if it goes into their face. Same as the womens game, they all seem to have long ponyt tails flying all over the place, it must be very distracting trying to head the ball when you have your opponents hair flying in your face |
