 | News Comment | Southampton V Portsmouth The Verdict at 11:04:55
I think the overkill of how important a game this was meant that Still set his team up not to lose and then stuck with that plan for too long. This was game 5 of a 46 game season so objectively not a make or break game other than local bragging rights. Clearly we have a lot to work on. If wingers looking to make crosses is now our thing, really need to be playing Stewart alongside Archer. Not sure how you fit Azaz in that set up. One to solve. Defence looked solid, Although Mat seemed very put out by Murphy, who was excellent and had his worst game so far. We had a few good attacks but team looks disjointed going forwards ATM. I'm sure this will be worked on in the coming weeks. Too early to get too upset. COYR |
 | News Comment | Will Still Can Now Wing It In Formation Change at 22:51:42
If Still is a good manager, he will find the system that works best at any point in time with the players he has available. Choosing a system over players always ends badly. |
 | News Comment | So What Deals Did Southampton Do On Transfer Deadline Day at 13:42:34
I think one consideration that we forget on the older 'leader' type players is that where they want to live can be a big consideration. To uproot and move to another part of the country for a job that may only last a few years does not appeal to some players, or their families, in the latter stages of their careers. Just a thought. |
 | News Comment | One In And Four Out Likely At Southampton On A Controversial Friday at 17:07:02
Four in and One out surely?!?! Azaz, Jander and Fellows have all been confirmed. Matty F was a great player but the deal is that they make a name for themselves and move on. By moving it means we can buy these 3. As long as one of them is as good as Matty, then rinse and repeat. I'll break into 'Circle of life' in a minute. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Norwich City The Carabao Cup Verdict at 16:04:03
Positives: Thought Mads Roerslev was really solid. Looks a good addition. Fraser and Manning played well too. Archer looked a lot more committed and Stewart got in the right places but just couldn't finish. Hopefully just a bit of match fitness needed. McCarthy despite one odd moment when he needed a Cruyff turn to get out of trouble, was solid. 3rd goal was a screamer. Negatives: Downes still isn't as good as he was 2 years ago, missed passes and loses the ball too easy. CB's were at sea for the first 20 mins - even ran into one another, gave the ball away cheaply but then seemed to sort themselves out after that. BBD was awful when he came on. |
 | News Comment | Tyler Dibling Leaves St Mary's For The Second Time at 03:49:27
Good luck to him. He is a great talent but still has a lot to learn. The quoted fee, decent for a young player, shouldn't place too much pressure on him. Best of luck Tyler. Hopefully this is the start of a busy week reshaping the squad in key areas. COYR |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Stoke City The Verdict at 10:11:10
Sure poor defending but if 2 strikers get the ball a yard out and both fail to hit the target, I think that should be highlighted too. I also think Bazunu could have done a bit better with the second goal. Agree that the three man CB set up isn't working. I seem to recall Ralph also tried this but gave it up to put a better player on instead of another mediocre defender and we looked better for it. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Wrexham The Verdict at 10:54:54
PS Jay Robinson is only 18. I agree that starting on the bench is probably the best way to use him but after a MOTM performance against Brighton it was fair to name him as a starter. As you say he was in and out of the game but Wrexham were very organised down the flanks on both sides. Great learning experience for him. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Wrexham The Verdict at 10:51:39
Totally agree on VAR. The ref's bad decisions evened out yesterday, Edwards should have been off but we should have had 2 penalties. After last season getting some early points on the board and the mood lifted in St Mary's was really important. Will Still read the game and used his bench to make that happen. Manning played really well last season, if free kicks are now in the mix, I think he should start. Bazunu even went the right way for the penalty but couldn't quite get there. Defence needs to gel. Quarshie made a few goofs yesterday. I'll put it down to beginners nerves for Edwards, who by all accounts was excellent on loan at QPR last season. Stephens shows why managers have repeatedly picked him. No real errors today and had the nous to be there to get the winner. Charles, Downes and Fernandes could be one of the best midfields in the Championship. Ryan Fraser was all over the place, great to see him back. I agree on Ross Stewart. Thought he was a real handful for Wrexham. COYR a tough season ahead and hopefully we will be in the mix every week. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Technical Director Defends Jack Stephens Contract at 11:14:01
The key point is that many people who's careers and salaries depend on results back him and have backed him consistently over other players. For this to happen, despite his obvious short comings which we can all reel off, is that there MUST be something about him that those who only view from the outside just aren't picking up on. Frankly, I thought the 'rewarding faliure' question last night at the fans' forum was framed appallingly. |
 | News Comment | Saints Award Jack Stephens A 3 Year Contract. at 21:54:03
Despite most people moaning about Jack, myself included, when fit he keeps getting picked by every manager. Given the howlers we all see him commit on a regular basis, there must be something about him in training or behind the scenes for them to keep doing that,. |
 | News Comment | Promoted German Club Interested In Southampton Defender at 13:00:51
Both ABK and Salisu showed early glimpses of real superstar potential. Sadly neither delivered on that promise for us. In the championship, CB is an area we have well covered. Take the money and move on. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Target Ex Liverpool Midfielder at 11:49:06
Don't think SR do marquee big name signings, so expect us to be in for this type of player. Whether it happens is dependent upon a lot of factors, most of which are out of our control. |
 | News Comment | Sky Sports Reports Ivan Juric Sacked at 12:38:22
Sensible decision to part ways, not sure what Juric could offer now. I suspect it will be Rusk as caretaker manager until the end of the season. I agree it's time to seriously assess what we have for next season. Really need experience and bite on the pitch for next year. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Preview at 12:02:03
Could have gone tonight but just couldn't face it. Enjoyed the game at Liverpool and I'd like to leave that as my final memory for this season. Squad is poor, new manager hasn't improved our performance(for whatever reason) Club is badly run and most players don't look interested. Hopefully this will mean that we play well and win tonight for the fans who show more gumption than me and actually attend. No idea who will play other than not Smallbone. Roll on next year as far as I am concerned. |
