Southampton v Portsmouth Your Report added at 16:03:40
We need to find a way to beat teams that set up like Pompey. Agree that it's a fat load of good having wingers firing crosses in when the targets in the box are Fraser and Archer.

Played for the most part like a bunch of individuals thrown together. Pompey played as a team. Struggle to see why with a reserve keeper on we weren't shooting on sight.

Murphy was the best player on the pitch. Possibly this led to Roerslav having a bad game. He seemed to hit the ball backwards at every opportunity.

Important not to throw the toys out the pram early in the season. There is however a lot of room for improvement.

Positives: good first half, in front twice, Cam Archer scoring again, great free kick from Manning, new signings look good

Negatives: poor second half, defence all at sea, Bazunu once again failing to stop a goal from a tight angle, Ref was hilariously one sided

First half was a good end to end game. Second half just fell apart. Both teams, given that transfers in and out are still on the cards, seemed resigned to a draw.

Good points: Robinson and Fraser look engaged and up for the fight. Dibling coming on.

Bad points: THB and Downes are both really nowhere near as good ATM as they were last time in the Championship.

A win is a win. Wasn't a great team performance but Fernandes showed his quality. Thought BBD had a pretty good game too. Defence still looks a bit disjointed. DD not impressing me at the moment- Jack Stephens scored a goal from a far harder angle on Saturday. How a striker can make such a mess right in front of goal amazes me. Flynn Downes needs a calmer head as well.

An ending that Disney and the 'leave early to beat the traffic' merchants really didn't want.

Wrexham were organised, played the clock well but ultimately sat back - we were playing 3 -1- 6 at the end! and we finally took our chances.

Three 'marmite' players stepped up, Manning and Stephens scored the goals and Bazunu made a key save to keep us in it. Stephens also made 2 great tackles - renaissance man?

Robinson and Charles also had great games.

Great way to start the season COYR

I can't blame Rusk who has done a good job after being parachuted in twice with limited resources. Fans again did Saints proud.

However our attackers can't score and our defenders can't defend. Midfield is ok - Les still can't seem to concentrate tho, lots of silly lost balls.

How a professional team can leave Vardy completely unmarked in the box just escapes me.

Players looked like they were playing a pres season exhibition match rather than going after the single point needed to escape a humiliation.

Given Fernandes, KWP and Ramsdale will be long gone next season, the only 2 I think I would keep are Downes and Manning, the rest can politely get in the sea.

Looked good for long periods against a lackluster Fulham but basically, our strikers can't score and our defenders can't defend.

Still think it's Leicester is our best chance of the vital point. After that roll on next season.

We played well in the first half. Good to see a bit of bite in our tackles. Team looked to be set up well.

Second half - aside from Ramsdale's penalty heroics - the usual 3 goal collapse.

Villa's strikers showed just how feeble ours are. Our lot seem better at contriving to somehow keep the ball out of the net than our CB's!

For most of the game we looked good but we just seem to switch off at key moments. 2 soft goals and a clear chance that Sulemana just didn't take.

Aside from Leicester, I struggle to see where we will get enough points to beat Derby's record.

And IJ's random subs generator must have made the bet 365 crowd a fortune today. Chasing a game- bring on a CB!

Although Liverpool looked a bit off the pace in the first half, we played well. Ramsdale, THB, Smallbone and Fernandes were great. Thought the lineup was good, square pegs in square holes. Jan B was unlucky to need to come off, however ABK, another square peg, played well.

Shame about the second half but first half showed that there is some fight left in us
if the team is set up right.

Southampton v Burnley Your Report added at 20:01:20
Burnley just looked to want it more. Solid defence and fast breaks. We had a few half chances but once again no one was able to make a clinical finish. Their goal was helped in by the usual disorganised chaotic defending in our box.

One thing to take heart in is how the Burnley team have gone from a Premier League basket case to a highly effective unit. So, there is hope for us next season.

I will take scuffed in goals. What price Tall Paul now goes on to be this season's top scorer for us.

About time we had a bit of luck. New guys looked good.

Hopefully this will help build confidence. Due to the injuries either ABK is in the mix or we switching to a back 4. To me, both those options may actually help us push on.

Too many players just going through the motions, overall result was fair enough. We went ahead, played well in patches but lackluster defending and 2 clinical strikes did for us.

Unfortunately, it was a penalty. However Fernandes was onside. Be glad to see the back of VAR- if a clear and obvious error takes 5 minutes to determine, then I would suggest it's neither clear nor obvious.

The only thing we are now playing for is to avoid Derby's record and most of the players don't seem bothered about that.

At the end I was glad it was only 5. Which is an absolutely ridiculous state of affairs

First half had strong echos of the 9-0 Leicester game, heavy rain, player sent off, had me very worried. Also very similar to the Liverpool game, all our good work was completely undermined by basic errors.

KWP, Fernandes, Manning and Wood were good, Lumley made mistakes but also pulled off some great saves. Stephens again makes us question what managers see in him.

Going straight back down with this daft style of play. Adapt quickly Russell or go.

I hate VAR and wish it gone as much as anyone. I may be wrong here but the goal was disallowed on the field, the Linesman/ referees assistant had signalled. VAR surely was applied correctly in that they did not overturn the referee's decision because there was no clear evidence. Still took 5 minutes to do it tho.

Agree with all the above, nondescript first half but played well in the second. Shame about the yellow cards. With injuries we will be 5 first team regulars down against Chelsea.

Thought our style had shifted for the better last night, we were definitely clearing the ball from defence and there were a few balls played forward into space for Arma to run onto. Both these tactics worked well and forced Brighton players to turn rather than just attacking the ball for a stray pass.

Good point away but Chelsea is going to be tricky on Wednesday.

Very frustrating. Great performance marred by a load of daft errors. Despite my misgivings before kickoff I really think we could have got something out of this game. As it is, all we've done is just put Fernandes and Dibling in the shop window.

Tall Paul is he Boufal in disguise?

We looked pretty solid. Rode our luck but result was fair. Not a win but not the huge score that was playing on a lot of our minds.

Thought the subs all made sense. Jack Stephens on balance earned his place. Ramsdale earned his money.

Something to build on.

Big improvement in attitude. Players looked like they had a bit of fight in them. Archer scored after excellent work from Fernandes. Felt like a big improvement although sadly still no win. Lots of shifts put in, hats off to Aribo who was everywhere.
